omg are you still on this geez you made your point get over it, and i dont think using a piece of shit pop rock band like good charlotte is a good way of making a point, all i was saying is that people who are using shitty music making programs shouldnt be calling themself composers let alone musicians, and i agree with the techno shit, but what differs between using a program to make a techno song or making a classical song or whatever ..... its all using the same basis of clicking buttons. and i never said anything about a midi keyboard coz technically you have to have some sort of skill to be able to use that coz its just a digital keyboard is a sence. do you even understand where im getting at, and to the guy calling me "cupcake" i hope your not a guy coz im getting freaked out.
Please shut up.

Lets get this thread back on topic shall we? The point of this thread is to state the kind of musician you are, and it isn't a place for pointless arguments about the nature of music. If you want to argue about that (in a mature manner), that's what this forum is for.

Anyway, to get this back on topic... I already posted here but what I didn't mention is that I'm starting to learn Jazz Piano. Are there any other aspiring jazz musicians around here besides Clizzz and Faeroe?

I wish I was. I could form a jazz duo with my grandfather (he's like 80+ and plays the sax). That'd be fucking amazing actually.

In terms of playing, jazz is my favorite music, especially in a smaller combo setting.  The freedom in improvisation is AMAZING!  I would jam with people all day on jazz if I had the time (or all the people to jam with).  My main jazz instuments are alto sax and piano.

I'm not exclusively a jazz musician though.  As a performer, I play sax, piano, bass clarinet, and am sort of learning guitar, and I kind of mess around on some other stuff.  I've composed for a year and a half, mostly on a computer, but for some smaller scale performance works on piano and pen and paper (and I find both to be equally musical); a vast majority of my work is orchestral.  Actually though, back on the jazz topic, I've been writing some jazz stuff recently, and been enjoying that a lot.  Heh, I'm pretty much cool with most music.

I've gotta say, I'm a Jazz man myself. But I play the Trombone actually. 7 years of practice or so.

I guess my inspiration was the fact that I had to choose to play an instrument in 5th grade or go back to vocal. But the real reason why I play music is that I got it down in my soul. People who are born with it, have to do it or they feel depressed and hollow.

But besides the Trombone, I can obviously play the Euphonium, the Tuba, and a bit on the Trumpet (but not really in the upper register). I also use FL Studio, and I really am glad that I bought it.

In conclusion, once they make the electric trombone, I'll buy one and start a Power Metal/Classical Jazz band.

Jazz is one of my favourite genres. It really captures the essence of the fun in playing music.

i was mostly kidding (though i do like death metal a LOT more than thrash) but regardless this isn't the place to start a metal debate! i fear a large circlejerk down that road - it has been scientifically proven time and time again that it is impossible to debate metal without someone namedropping obscure bands, followed by someone namedropping more obscure bands, followed by someone namedropping MORE obscure bands, and in the end nobody gets anywhere and bands like SVEST and Ninnghizhidda get one more pubic hair - and i for one would like to avoid it if possible.

note that the biggest reason i made that post was so i could have an excuse to name Ninnghizhidda on rmxp.org, and i have accomplished this. i feel really really good now.

thrash is angry and fast - powermetal sans dragonflame - and death is introspective and technical.

Thrash metal is an evolution from speed metal and hardcore punk. Take a look at Overkill, Slayer and Metal Church. It uses a very traditional riff based approach and technique that you would find in albums such as Painkiller, with the aggression and intensity of hardcore punk.

Death metal essentially splintered off from thrash metal in the mid and late 80's with bands such as Possessed and Death as pioneers of the style. They blended themes of morbidity and death that, although were apparent in thrash metal, was taken to a higher degree. The aesthetics of the music reflected upon this with even more intensity, sometimes downtuned guitars, a more brutal approach to songwriting and general evilness. It later on evolved to a myriad of different forms which further seperated itself from the thrash roots.
