How many musicians are on RMXP?

Thread's 2 days old and kinda interesting so i'm gonna revive it for a bit :)

My main instrument's Bass of which I'm Grade 8 :D
I can kinda play keyboard, but mainly use it for the midi input into my computer so I just know basic chords and melodys and scales and such
I'm only 16 so still studying GCSE music (gah)
I only got into music about 2 years ago really...
My second instrument is Tabla  and third is my voice :)

I also play double bass (Grade 5), Tenor horn, Euphonium and Cello :)

Jack Black: "Just turn it round and Cello!, you've gotta Bass :)"

It was quite cool actually, just had my birthday (on saturday) and my Dad made me a Bass cake, complete with lead and amp :)
I'll post a picture if you want?

Alright, I'll throw my porkpie in the ring....

Piano, Guitar, Vocals, Composer, Amateur Sound Engineer (for a few local Detroit bands)
Have played in many bands (New wave, Punk, 70's Rock, Blues, Jazz, Christian Rock...)
I even played in a country band for a while. I'm not a big country fan, but the musicians
were all top-shelf, so it was very enjoyable.
Got about 50 hrs in the studio (mostly on other peoples projects.)

Mostly just doing the Campfire / Party singalong thing with an acoustic now. Although
I have done a couple of Benefits lately (single acoustic shows).

Here's my toys...

The exploror is home made, with a modified Strat neck. (I added a phase shifter) :)

Rock on!

Im a percussionist, but I can play piano and other things as well. Im a freshman music education major and am currently writing music for games =D

This thread made me feel sick, music inst about clicking a few buttons on a music program. and it surely doesn't make you a composer. its sad music is loosing its creditably as it is, without people degrading it with talking absolute shit that they know nothing about. im not saying that im the greatest thing that ever lived, hell i am the furtherest from it. but i know where the real music comes from, it doesnt come from google or a torrent site, it comes from your heart and your soul. its about expressing feeling and emotion, not who has the best bragging rights. and it always makes me feel gitty when i see ALL these people who have $100,000 + guitars sitting at home. your full of shit. stop talking out your ass and making music a joke. ii play a gibson les paul special it cost me $2000 which i traded my car insurance for to stay on the topic

I agree. Music isn't like it use to be. It's more about the look than the feel nowadays. I think it is to late for me to make it big.
I rock the acoustic guitar, I want an electric, but everything is so expensive. I haven't played very long. But someday everyone will know my name. I just wish I could sing well.

The best way I see to null this statement is to use Finale-the only music software where clicking random icons using trial and error DOESNT give you a finished product. If you read music well its a snap, and it also helps you get better with reading music too, in my opinion.

But you're halfway right. I plan on getting my degree in music ed, and I actually hand write music before putting it in the computer. Sometimes I will spend hours at a time on my piano just thinking for a nice, smooth melody to write, or deciding what key it is in, unlike how some people just click random sounds until something works and call themselves "musical composers".

That's one of the main reasons I don't like Tommy Tallarico.

You're a fucking moron you know that? I'll give you an example- you ever hear of 'smear, Piano for Children' and 'Popcorn Superhet Receiver' by Jonny Greenwood? (I'm guessing not as you strike me as a self-righteous arsehole, but w/e.) They were written by hooking a midi keyboard up to a PC (with a ribbon controller to simulate an Ondes) and then written in . He gave that to the BBC and it was then finalised by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. I fail to see where between writing it for a purpose and just playing what was given to you, did a huge amount of emotion randomly appear. The piece went on to make part of the soundtrack to There Will Be Blood (the rest of which was made by Jonny too in the same manner) and Superhet won god knows how many awards.

Best bit is, I reckon you'll have listened to some pieces composed by big name composers and thought they were done by a live orchestra, such is the level some work at. But, hey, don't let that stop your rant.

Oh and, fyi, I spent only £600 on equipment over the years- my second hand electric guitar, my acoustic, a free piano (which only cost me £40 for it to be tuned), violin bow and a handful of pedals. So next time you're on a rant, how about you realise you're actually talking complete and utter shite?

Edit: I just checked your past post history. Seems you're a fan of music where the singers don't actually sing but make a loud rumbling sound. Please, don't get me started.

Wow. Just wow. So what if some of us compose music in a computer application? Does that make us any less than anyone else? No. It's just like saying Mac users are stupid because they use Mac. Or Linux people are nerds and ugly because they use Linux. Just because you spent money on a physical instrument, doesn't mean you're any better than someone who works electronically, hell, you could be worse.

you're cute, i have to say. i haven't seen someone with as flawed a belief in "what music is" in a really long time. i'm not going to argue your point, because that would be giving you an honor you are pretty much completely undeserving of; i just wanted to say you're cute.

wow you have left me speechless you really have, i have never been such dumbfounded by such stupidity and ignorance.

Ditto. I'll have to agree. You are so superior to us because you use a 2000USD Guitar, I'll just take my 200USD one and cry in the corner. With GuitarPro4. [/sarcasm]

^ Done via the magic of a midi keyboard and a computer (harpsichord for earlier demos and live versions)

^ Done using real instruments so this must be sooooo much better

You miss the fucking point of music man. What you use doesn't actually matter, its the end result. Now if we're talking "blip-blip-blip" like some electro faggots, yeah that's shit, but you've just blacked out pur emotion filled stuff by Portishead and the ilk.

But, I forgot, instruments are always better, that's why Killwhitneydead, Atreyu and Trivium etc are so fantastic. /sarcasm

(FYI: I don't do this computer stuff you're on about, I do play "real music" but your comments are stupid even to me).

omg are you still on this geez you made your point get over it, and i dont think using a piece of shit pop rock band like good charlotte is a good way of making a point, all i was saying is that people who are using shitty music making programs shouldnt be calling themself composers let alone musicians, and i agree with the techno shit, but what differs between using a program to make a techno song or making a classical song or whatever ..... its all using the same basis of clicking buttons. and i never said anything about a midi keyboard coz technically you have to have some sort of skill to be able to use that coz its just a digital keyboard is a sence. do you even understand where im getting at, and to the guy calling me "cupcake" i hope your not a guy coz im getting freaked out.

A composer is just a term for one who creates music. Why shouldn't a person label themselves as such if in fact that is what they do? There is no logical process behind your reasoning, or if there is I am not seeing it.
