Final Fantasy XIII

kuahe kuki ino: Epic. Thanks for the knowledge impart. You so have my respect now(I'm actually not even kidding)

Mawk: And although I am a bit of a butthead, I actually did feel like a lot of the sayings were not validated till UWE, which is where I stop arguing and whatnot.

That pretty lame to tell you the truth. Like, is there any way to change the speed or whatnot or even organize your moves? The last thing I want to do is randomly choose my skills and whatnot. o:

If there is, they certainly don't advertise it. My friend looked for one in the options menu and couldn't find it :/

It is understandable that there is no option to slow the battle speed with the Paradigm Shift system they have you use. (Yeah, I know Peri. I can hear you yelling from here.)

It is pretty much a dumbed down job system with six specialties to choose from:

Attacker: Fight with weapons.
Blaster: Cast offensive magic.
Healer: Cast curative magic.
Defender: Attract enemies’ attacks and guard against them.
Enhancer: Cast strength buffs.
Jammer: Cast debuffs on enemies.

You can have one set at a time and flip between them quickly at any time. This is how the game knows what you want to do for auto-battling, along with what roll you want the AI to play in battles. I guess you can say that they took a more strategic approach with the gameplay. There is no real risk factor though, as there is no penalty for dying and you auto-heal after a battle.

So there could be a way to slow down battles. I'm not 100% sure. My friend is fluent in Japanese and I know enough to get around. His room mate knows some Japanese. Between us three, we couldn't find an option, though we only looked where it would be logically placed.

You said you understand, but I'll say it again for the sake of rounding out the statement: watching your characters do stuff is not playing a game. Grandia 2 has a lot of watching your characters do stuff, but the point is that you are the one telling them what to do--and that is playing a game.

I understood you, I just don't agree with you. As long as the game is fast paced and always has me doing something and Im in control of the basic situation, I feel that I am playing the game. Opinions are opinions.

I have a question sir UWE, how does the leveling system work. Like I heard it was like the sphere grid only 6 different paths. Do the choice you make in one path affect the other, or is it a clean slate for each? Also, whats the basic idea behind it? o:

Did N-E1 ask u, i don;t thnkz zo.

The leveling system does not use experience points. Instead, you use what is known as Crystal Points. After a battle, characters receive some CPs that can be used to unlock skills or increase attributes. Here is the catch: The Crystarium (As the system is known) is not initially available within the game, and only becomes available through story sequences. After that point, levels in the Crystarium become unlocked as the story progresses, essentially capping the amount of growth that can be achieved in the middle of the game.

Also, each character initially specializes in up to three Roles, and the other Roles are not even available in their Crystariums until much later. Basically, they give you characters with niche roles at first. After the first half of the game, you get to the point where you can start doing whatever you want with the characters.

The menu grid where you make the selections is pretty much the Final Fantasy 10 Sphere Grid system. That is pretty much it. There's no real path change. They give you the path. You'll receive enough CPs to unlock almost every skill available. You'll just get those skills in doses.

There isn't any grinding to be done until about Chapter 11. This is the period I referenced before where you can run around and do side quest missions.

Okay nobody here has played the game yet because IT IS NOT RELEASED YET! Okay I know there's no gameplay in the trailers (yeah there are look in the TGS 09 Traikler you can play as more than 1 character!). BUT there are some bad things for example the names (Snow, Lightning?! Wtf this are nature stuff -_-) But I dont think its bad because of this. Its revolutionary not to have towns (I think its boring with EVERY SINGLE RPG must have a town with "cute music" -_-).

Also it is good with a shorter RPG. FFXII was quite fun, until I discovered it was like 80 Hours of Storyline Gameplay. You get so damn bored of beating up 20 bosses in a row, like in The Pharos Lighthouse in FFXII! It was maybe trhe most fun FF game

but I think this will be better than XII. STill nothing can ever beat FFVII or X.

its not so much the towns as it is them doing away with all the vestigial stuff, it totally kills that whole FF aesthetic [/quote]

final fantasy vi

also X honestly was terrible everyone only loves it because of the graphics, gameplay and music but the plot and characters were all so horribly stereotypical and the pacing was really bad. xii at least had a badass plot and some really decent characters until that whole mmo battle system shit ruined it for me

Eughmmm FF7 was crap, the graphics are the only good part about it.. (The system is a just a VERY VERY VERY downgraded version of FF6),
the characters where extremely stupid (I never understanded what ppl liked about them.. I myself only liked Aerith (because she dies (this isn't meant possitive)).
The story wasn't all that wow how ppl made it be..
Sephiroth sucks. (Jeesus is it that hard to make characters of the strenght of FF6?)

I liked FFX, but I deffenly wouldn't consider it to be one of the best (again FF6 was miles ahead of the game).

first oen who says FF6 characters only had 5 lines of text, I don't care..
Atleats the characters where good with those 5 lines while FF7 and 8 sucked with there 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 fucking lines of text

/blah

guys I'm selling these cars but they're missing a rear axle. it's a revolutionary new design!

"revolutionary" does not automatically apply to any major change, especially if that change is actually harmful.

Awesome Bro

I like how mister watermelon denies everyone elses opinions and tries to make out his is better than everyone elses, and the reasons everbody loved FFX is wrong anyway, since it doesn't apply in my case. Stop being a douche, seriously, that's why you're not a mod anymore...

PS. mawk, can I buy one of them there cars? I wanna' be "in" with the guys...

actually he stepped down on his own because his schedule was getting hectic. as actual mod stuff goes, he was usually one of the more levelheaded ones.

p.s. don't be a dick just because you don't like what someone's saying. knock down the words, not the speaker.

Guys, Im just here to insert that this topic is really getting out of hand and off track. This thread is not:

  • Bash other people's opinions
  • Insult others
  • Argue about which FF is the best
  • Spam

If you have something to add relating to the actual topic, then please, do so. But please stop the unnecessary arguing and insults. Its getting old. o:

Im gonna level with you; I shouldnt shit on everyones opinions, thats true, and I was actually kidding. Honestly though, I really disliked FFX, but youre right I shouldnt shoot people down just because they like it. Imo FF has had the same outlook since FF8; 9 made it feasible to be a good series again but X ruined it.

also yeah i stepped down as a mod for personal reasons, please be mature if you do not know what youre talking about.

There you are right: Ofcourse a game should be long, but not as long as FFXII -_- no the game isnt released in SWEDEN.

Still if they should have towns in this game they should put cooler towns with GOOD music and not the original boring towns still with cute music. FFX has a really good story according to me. Btw anyway its seems dissapointing that FFXIII here has no real "nature" and/or short gameplay lenght. And the battlesystem seems cool, but the question is: Is it good and fun? Don't think so...

Well, that's the point of towns. They're relaxing places, there purely for flavor. You don't need--no, you don't want heart-poundingly exciting music in towns, or even just something that isn't completely relaxing or simple.

But this is your opinion vs. design theory, so I just don't know.

Interestingly, I liked FF12, but for a completely different reason. I thought the characters were flat, static, and dull, and the plot had a lot of potential but squandered basically all of it, which was a real shame because I love politics in my fantasy. However, the gameplay was actually pretty damn fun if you actually had to interact with it. If you played grossly underleveled (my typical modus operandi for jRPGs because they're too fucking boring otherwise), you actually do have to micromanage your party, in which case the battle system becomes fast-paced and engaging. But having to play grossly underleveled to have fun does not a good game make, so yeah. Oh, also, I like 80-hour games.

yeah idk ive heard that alot peri how alot of people couldnt stand the char/plot, i guess i liked how "old world fantasy" it was

and yeah another reason i hate this shit is because they keep showing like a million differant battle systems FUCK YOU SE JUST PICK ONE FAGGOT

I like different battle systems. Keeps it a little more interesting from game to game.

Well, idk, I didn't really mind the plot that much. Again, I like political stories. I just thought it could've gone from okay to great if they'd done a bit more with it, and it always sucks to see that. I did, however, hate Vaan and therefore Penelo by extension, and Fran was really lame, and Basch was interesting RIGHT UP UNTIL
LOL IT WASN'T ME THAT MURDERED THE KING IT WAS MY EVIL TWIN,
and Balthier at least had a personality and a little development, and Asch had a ridiculous character design that made it very hard for me to take her seriously but was okay aside from that (and Fran's was worse, so whatever). So, yeah, some of the characters were all right, but overall, I wasn't impressed.

The Basch thing pissed me off because
I love it when good guys do really morally ambiguous things and stick by their principles, and I was TOTALLY not expecting it, and I thought it would've introduced a lot of really interesting dynamics into the party and the storyline, but I guess having a PC willingly murder his own king due to an ideological difference was too grimdark for Squeenix. Well, idk, NO SURRENDAR AND KING IS TRAITOR FOR NOT WANTING TO GET EVERYONE MURDERED!!!!111 is cliche anyway, but at least it was a different sort of cliche from what they usually push out.
