Final Fantasy XIII

From the looks of it, this is just one more reason why I haven't played a Final Fantasy game since IX. I used to blame it on Hironobu's exodus, but after three shitty attempts to get it right... Good luck recovering from this one, Square Enix.

we all know a million fffags will buy it on release regardless of what anyone who's actually played says because anyone who criticises sqeenix is a tasteless uneducated hater

meh. ff installments don't really draw me except for the fact that I liked ff9 and 4 and wanna keep playing the franchise.

What I'm really hoping for is ffversus13. I'm just hoping they won't fuck that one up.

If you read press releases, this is what Enix actually said about people who dislike FF13's story.

I almost always skip through battles in RPGs as fast as possible to get to towns, no matter how good the system. So ... This game is not appealing to me at all.

This... wouldn't surprise me at all, actually. Those smug bastards piss me right the fuck off. Do you have any links to this?

P.S., Kuah You best be keeping your Star Ocean 2 LP going motherfucker. :box: :box: Unless I'm mistaken about your identity in which case DISREGARD THIS.

"We think many reviewers are looking at Final Fantasy XIII from a western point of view," says Toriyama in a recent issue of Xbox World 360. "When you look at most Western RPGs, they just dump you in a big open world, and let you do whatever you like..." Toriyama adds that it "becomes very difficult to tell a compelling story when you're given that much freedom".

Because the "writers" of Final Fantasy (I have to put quotation marks around it to keep myself from chuckling.) totally have a firm grasp on what makes a compelling story, judging by the way they completely botch any attempt at a mature, meaningful plot.

Clearly us wacky, beer-swilling, baseball-watching bakka gaijins know nothing of a "compelling story" because we enjoy well-written, complex characters and strong, thematic storytelling in our RPGs instead of one-note androgynous dipshits with ridiculous hairstyles going from Plot Point A to Plot Point B for utterly contrived reasons with no input from the player besides pressing the joystick and spamming "X" or your console's equivalent thereof, watching a ten minute cutscene and repeating ad nauseum.

When developers get apathetic like that and start making excuses instead of attempting to improve, the series as a whole suffers.

Now that I have all of that out of the system, I'll stop fagging up the thread, honest. ;)

enough of Bad Critique people :S I really like this game and I hope it will be some of the top best FFs. Yeah I know it cant be better than X or XII but anyway (or FFVII).

But maybe it just look GOOD in the trailers?

If FF13 isn't better than "crawling around in dungeons for sixty hours while the story happens to pretty much everything else but you", than I really don't know what to say.

Awesome Bro

Yeah, XII was one of the worst to be honest, but I think this seems to be taking that title from everything I've seen...

If you've ever watched trailers for other FF games, you'll note that they *never* show gameplay. It is always movies or cutscenes.

Also, wasn't it FFXIII where they said they couldn't even fit the entire game onto one 360 disk (no room for Japanese voices/text)? Granted, I don't give 2 shits what languages are or are not on there as long as English is, this could have something to do with why the game is so linear, with no townspeople or cities/towns at all. On the other hand, a great game like Borderlands comes out with somewhat impressive graphics (cell-shade are fake graphics, btw, but that's another topic), huge world and *TONS* of weapons/equipment, and that fit completely onto one disk. Then there's GTA IV, with its massive open world and amazing physics and graphics, and I guess a decent story (I never played it very far because the game was boring as utter shit. Saint's Row 2 is so much better)?

My whole point is, they wanted to create a huge, impressive game, but apparently they've hit some snags by bringing it onto the 360, and this is possibly why the game is so linear. And, again, on the other hand, those other games made impressive, massive worlds just fine.. what is Squeenix's excuse? They're obviously not the amazing people they thought they were.

p.p.s. if Toriyama really thinks that the key to telling a compelling story is to eliminate freedom, he should retire from squeenix and write a book. gameplay is an integral part of the video game medium, and exploration is an integral part of jrpg gameplay.

because, honestly, battles can't drive a game by themselves.
