Final Fantasy XIII

When FFXII came out I got talked into buying the collectors edition tincase with bonus dvd Guide+art book. Ended up spending over $100. I'm only getting the game this time, I swear.

honestly, who buys the limited/collectors editions, anyway? my cousin wanted the limited edition of bioshock 1? i think? (what game doesn't really matter) and i told him "you're going to waste your money." and.. sure enough, after he got it he was like "well that was a waste of money." i don't care if it comes with a guide.. there's free guides on the intertubes. the limited edition is just so they can make shit tons more money off the same product everyone else is smart and paying less for

well when i got the limited edition of castlevania dawn of sorrow (i think it was that one??? it was a soma cruz one) it came with this nifty black satchel packet thing full of timelines and artwork and shit all sealed with a wax dracula seal, and that was pretty badass.
but it was a gift so i didnt pay for it anyway ~

yeah.. none of that shit interests me at all. it's all just gimmicky, and you're being sucked in. i guarantee you can find the music and that "exclusive" documentary online. as far as the skin and the 7 unique challenges go.. who cares? nobody else is going to see that shit, it's a single player game.

@ven: well, same thing with jbrist.. i just don't see the point spending money for something you'll look at for a couple days, then shelf it. all i want is the game, and that's it. but, obviously these limited/collectors editions exist because people buy them, so w/e. i'm just not going to

Yeah, maybe you can find the soundtracks and documentary online, but physical copy > digital copy in my opinion, And who said anyone else has to pay for the skins and challenges? I've paid more, so I'm getting more, besides, it's all bundled up in the Pandora's Box replica, which looks pretty amazing to be honest, and here in EU (Well, UK, not sure about EU), you get the God of War Collection with it too, infact, there's TONS more, look at the list;

http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2010/02/ ... -unveiled/

Overall, the EU one costed me £110 to preorder, that's pretty much 3 games, four albums (3 OSTs and B&M), an artbook (I like these things), Some postcards (I don't get it... lol), and a shit ton more DLC...

Now, if you ask me, that seems worth it.

I do think that some collectors editions are boring, like the ones that just come with one peice of DLC etc, but if it's an offer as big as the one I've mentioned AND pre-ordered, then it's something I won't hesitate to buy.

I only get ce's now if there's major swag involved. (i.e. ACIIs Ezio statue, GoWIIIs Pandora's Box, Fallout 3s vault boy bobble head) Still, the only CE for this game available in the states is the 250GB 360 bundle with the second controller. It's just not worth it considering the only thing they did to "theme" the console like they have for past 250GB releases is to make it white. Besides, I got it for PS3, and they didn't do a system bundle here for that console.

The battle system took me a while to figure out. They should have stuck with the classic terms and titles. It didn't feel like I was playing a final fantasy game until I realized that "Paradigm Shift" is just "job change" Ravanger and commando are blackmage/warrior.

It felt a little overwhelming at first because I was going at it with the old battle systems in mind. You really only have control over tactics. The characters will do their own thing you can only tell them what role to play.

Yeah, and apparently chapter 12 is longer than 1-11 put together anyways, since the game takes an average of 40 hours to do, and then chapter 13 is meant to be pretty long too.

Really? Guess I heard wrong then, lol.

So how long has your total playtime been so far?

I've heard from some people that it's one of the longest Final Fantasy games, whereas some have said it's quite short. I'd say for a JRPG, anywhere between 30-40 hours is a good length.

I played it for a couple of hours at a friend's place the other day, and... well, it's basically exactly what I thought it would be.

One thing that I sorta liked was the idea of the battle system... some enemies have huge amounts of HP, and the only way to bring them down is by focusing and coordinating your attacks so you inflict a status ailment, which multiplies your damage with every hit landed. In theory, it's awesome, but in practice there wasn't much application of strategy. I got 4-5 stars on every fight by mashing auto-battle and only paying half attention.

I'm not gonna comment too much on the storyline, I'll give it a chance to develop more. I got to
Snow fighting the Shiva sisters and getting captured by some chick, and Sazh/Vanille getting separated from Hope/Lightning.

Thus far Sazh is by far the best thing about the game, and I usually roll my eyes at the "lol comic relief" characters.

Also am I the only one that's completely creeped out by Snow and his obsession with the girl who looks like she's 12 or 13? It's like the creepy "love" subplot from DoC only with actual lovins goin' on.

He gets somewhat deeper towards the middle of the game. o:

A lot of the game is just that, its towards the middlish/endish where you really have to pay attention. Literally, the enemies start to get really hard really fast, to the point where you will die and get killed in one hit if you are not careful and plan ahead. This of course happens around chapter 10ish. You won't be getting 4-5 stars then. o;

One thing I dislike is when every class becomes available to you, its nit what you think. Its more like every class becomes available to you with only half the skills and takes 6000 AP to move one space, then goes exponentially up by 6000 every circle you get through. Not only that, you gain really weak stats.

Im on Pulse right now, and the enemies are hard beyond belief, you really feel under leveled. A lot of the enemies take a lot of fast planning to actually beat it.

The missions you partake in Pulse are actually hunts, like 12. They get progressively harder as well. A lot of them you use your synergist and saboteur, (misspellings), as they are tough cookies. Again, it takes a lot of training, and each space on the level spaces take between 4000-10000 AP. On the plus side, each enemy group gives around 2000 points per battle, so eh.

Whats weird about this game is that bosses are easier then normall encounters.. This game is piss easie unless you encounter a big group of normall enemies and don't pay attention.

I was so hoping for a hard FF this time.. but the only boss I haven't gotten the damn 5star rating is dysley (blah 3 stars i'm ashamed).. ppl who think this is hard should never play FF3 nera end game.
