Final Fantasy XIII

Whats weird about this game is that bosses are easier then normall encounters.. This game is piss easie unless you encounter a big group of normall enemies and don't pay attention.

I was so hoping for a hard FF this time.. but the only boss I haven't gotten the damn 5star rating is dysley (blah 3 stars i'm ashamed).. ppl who think this is hard should never play FF3 nera end game.

FFIII was easy all way trought, dude! Anyway very bad that FFXIII is easy! Sorry to accept it. We'll hope that vsXIII or tgheir next game will be better. But they should really let the FF series end by now...They should start a new series, not make a FFXIV :P

the game is easy till later on in the game. the last boss is an asshole. attack that can cause instant death -.-

I finished the story last night. I'm disappointed with a lot of the game elements. I did write a list of pros for the game and a little bit about the characters. But my browsers hiccuped when I pressed preview and now I don't feel like retyping it. So here's the cons:
  • It's kinda like FFX were most of the game is a straight path with the exception of the calm lands. Only here the path is extremely narrow with the equivalent of the calm lands being bigger.
  • The game's pace is really messed up. In the opening I fought every enemy on my way through the map which was stupid because you don't start getting cp until later. So it felt longer then it should have.
  • In order to ride chocobos you have to do 14 hunts first. I didn't find this out until I beat the game. Chocobos only get you around to hunt locations faster. No racing :( but you can dig up treasure. That's about it for minigames.
  • The only airships you see are in cutscenes, you use warp points to get around on pulse.
  • Summons are practically useless. You'll use Odin a few times in the beginning but it takes a long time to recharge TP. By the time you get the other summons the TP is better spent on renew and dispellga techniques. They usually make the battle longer and most times can't even stagger an enemy within there time limit.
  • All the propaganda I saw like images of carbuncle and siren were misleading and had minor importance.
  • There aren't any limit breaks either. There is a unique ability for each character that you can get during the last bit of story. You have to select it manually to use it. It might be more useful in the later hunts along with the summons but not during the main story.
  • All the enemies in the last area I took down with the same tactic: stagger>launch> juggle in the air for the rest of the battle.
  • Another thing that was impractical was the weapon/accessory upgrades. I only upgraded one of lighting's weapon into a new one and a few accessories.
  • I missed out on a lot of gil for the first part of the game because I didn't realize there were "components" that you were suppose to sell instead of use as exp. I got by easily enough.
  • Shrouds were hard to get so I never really used them. They didn't help much anyway. The deceptisol was suppose to help avoid enemies but the path is so narrow that there's no way around big enemies and the little one's crowd together so you'll most likely bump into them anyways.
  • The story was ok. It was hard to understand character's actions/emotions since you start in the middle and get flashbacks as you go along. The story elements felt diminished by the fact you had to read an explanation of things in the main menu. At least in FFX the locations had some kind of history and importance to the story but in XIII every location was just in between space of the story points. In fact you can't revisit any of the locations from chapters 1-10.
I can write more later

Just a question for the people who finished the game (I'm on chapter 12 right now): is there some sort of new game+ or no? I'm really looking forward to an option like it but I read somewhere saying there isn't. Can someone clarify for me? Thanks.

There isn't a new game+
but you can save after the credits and be put back to the last area before the final boss.
You won't have full access to your crystal grid until after you beat the last boss.

It's kinda like FFX were most of the game is a straight path with the exception of the calm lands. Only here the path is extremely narrow with the equivalent of the calm lands being bigger.

To tell you the truth, I think 13 has more exploration than 10, even if its not that much so.

* The game's pace is really messed up. In the opening I fought every enemy on my way through the map which was stupid because you don't start getting cp until later. So it felt longer then it should have.

Yes, I found this stupid as well. I understand what Square was trying to do, but why even have big battles without experience.

* In order to ride chocobos you have to do 14 hunts first. I didn't find this out until I beat the game. Chocobos only get you around to hunt locations faster. No racing :( but you can dig up treasure. That's about it for minigames.

How many hunts did you do? Chocobos are also used to help get you to locations and treasures inaccessible by foot, and there is an area with a red wall and everything.

The only airships you see are in cutscenes, you use warp points to get around on pulse.
To me, the only more thing gimmicky than warp points is an airship.

* Summons are practically useless. You'll use Odin a few times in the beginning but it takes a long time to recharge TP. By the time you get the other summons the TP is better spent on renew and dispellga techniques. They usually make the battle longer and most times can't even stagger an enemy within there time limit.

First off, Im sort of glad this is the case, there is no super awesome moves in the game, it takes strategy. In 12, I remember quickenings which really saved the day in some cases. And in 10, bahumut and up were ultimate. I had Anima, and no one stood a chance with that summoned. However, summonings in 13 are not ultimate, they are flawed and weak.
However, I did not like the fact that you get your last summoning in the middle of Chapter 11 because when you get your summon, you get an ATB slot.. ):

* Another thing that was impractical was the weapon/accessory upgrades. I only upgraded one of lighting's weapon into a new one and a few accessories.
I dont know if Im doing something wrong or the system is really that shallow and dull.

* I missed out on a lot of gil for the first part of the game because I didn't realize there were "components" that you were suppose to sell instead of use as exp. I got by easily enough.

The only thing I have bought from the stores are components, potions, and phoenix downs.

Shrouds were hard to get so I never really used them. They didn't help much anyway. The deceptisol was suppose to help avoid enemies but the path is so narrow that there's no way around big enemies and the little one's crowd together so you'll most likely bump into them anyways.
Shrouds were extremely useful in hard battles. A preemptive strike can go a long way in a battle, along with the stat raiser ones. I just don't understand where you can get them.

But see, this is a straw man point, because super moves are also a sort of strategy. Since summons are, to my knowledge, "super bar"-consuming skills, they are a strategic point, yes; however, they aren't necessarily useful in strategizing and are really just more lesbianiacal eye candy. Besides, the only recent FF game--and even this one is a decade old now--that didn't have strategically-timed super awesome moves was FF9 and that was because you couldn't decide when to trigger your limit break.

So back to the point that super moves are their own layer of strategy: abilities that can reliably turn around or even completely end a fight that's going poorly (full healing doesn't really count in a game where your only active stat is HP, and it gets restored after every battle anyway) have strategically-timed uses. A skill that's going to prolong a fight but not even really change how it's going to pan out (FF13 summons) is just another crappy skill that you may as well deploy whenever, except you can't because the game doesn't let you. Plus, since you can restart with no penalty anyway, paired with the fact that summons aren't strategically viable, the only "strategies" to bother with are "what didn't I do?" and "maybe I should reload and grind more," neither of which have anything to do with strategy: they're puzzle-solving and... well, grinding.

Another aspect of said super moves is foresight strategizing. Hell, I have an entire 5-minute Emerald Weapon strategy based around Highwind.

upgrading items are very usefull. your not going to beable to get 5 star on some bosses with out a fully upgraded best final upgrade weapon to 100

Oh okay, thanks. On the last chapter now, can't beat the 3 creeps guarding the next save/quest area. I take down 1 and the other 2 do this lightning-charge up move dealing 5k+ dmg to all my party members (sanctum templars i think they're called).

There's a boss in the last chapter that you fight twice. After you stagger it the first time it'll buff itself up and rapes you. I got frustrated cause I always died at the same point so I equipped my stagger lock weapons and little by little took it down; a long ride but smooth sailing.

I only did maybe 4-5 hunts during the story. Not counting the ones in the tower that you do for the statues. I've beaten a few Class A hunts using cheap tactics, I'm not going for the 5star ratings.
Some of the hunts update your dialogs with deeper information on the world. I wish they would have given the character's more back stories or give you something to speculate. That would be much more rewarding then trophies imo. If I remember right, in FF8 there are hints that point to Laguna being Squall's father but it's never flat out said. FF9 had character specific sidequests. FF10 had Jecht and braska spheres you could find and watch if you backtracked.
Once the story is over in FF13 there's nothing left to do but fight the same monsters over and over again and collect points. No puzzles, riddles, or minigames. I never did all the hunts in FF12 but at least you had to figure out how to make some of them appear and not just walk to the star on the map. The cameos and secret summons were a nice treat in 12 too.

The guide gives you the alphabet used in the game. I'll try decoding what's written on the last boss, see if it's gibberish or not.

mhh someone says thre are no super moves eh?
Get a 999,9% stagger and do highwind/sovereign fist then say again there aren't any supermoves ;) (or is an attack that does 1,5MILION damage a normal move?)

First off let me begin by saying: YOU FUCKS! Sorry I had to get that out of my system. This game is brilliant. I love the battles and its "plan quickly or die" mechanism. I haven't played it much (Only had it for about a week and a bit and school work keeps getting in the way) just got the shiva sisters (snow's summon) but during that time I loved it. So what the first few battles don't net you CP, but thats not what they're there for. The reason is quite simple: its a new battle system and it takes a bit of getting used to. So in short FF 13=Awesome. Ok? Good.

You can't really try to force your opinion on us like facts, since there's plenty of people who will still hate/dislike the game regardless...

You will have to accept that other do not think the same as you. Not strange at all right?

Also I haven'r played the game, but its a little much chaotic, at least how it looks lika O_o

I'm on Chapter 13 and just decided to go back to pulse to complete all the missions and to grind since I've heard that the final Boss is no joke.

I love the game, I thought it look great and love the characters (except Vanielle) and their voice actors. While playing through the game I just couldn't wait to see another cut-scene because they were all great to see.

Yeah, so lots of common FF elements were missing. I don't think they could have done it anyway. Apparently with all the CG animations and other stuff the entire disc has reached it's maximum capacity. Large towns and the hundreds of other characters would not fit... I also loved the battle system. Never once did I fight a boss where I didn't strategize and experiment with different Paradigms. I think the game is great and deserves a thumbs up.

Who knows, maybe when the PS4 comes out the new disc will have much more space and they can make a final fantasy like 13 with all the elements that we've grown to love.

Oh, and about the side quest. I guest I don't really mind them because I love to fight so much that I was so excited to take on all the missions. So for me the fights made up for the lack of side story's and quest.

his second form is no joke (only hard fight I've had so far (haven't done cieth missions)). but his final form is the biggets joke ever..

I beated him in 1minute 2 seconds (which results in the superstar trophy= Lightning theme)
You just gotta buff up, stagger and switch to 2 comms (DON'T HEAL)

the ending scene is really amazing (only bit short), but amazing nonetheless..

In a decade, we'll still say "Man, FF6 has some beautiful sprites," but even the current level of graphical rendering will be akin to the N64's empty space levels and awful render distance in ten, maybe even five years' time.

7, 8, and 9 are almost actually immune to this because while the character graphics are just textured polygons now, those games have the advantage of pre-rendered backgrounds, which is a completely different form of environment design.

That's the problem with CG--the stuff ages, and is still improving. The Spirits Within had worlds better "graphics" than FF13, and that was made a decade ago, if that's any indication as to where game graphics have yet to arrive at. Sprites, unless counting smoothed/high-res ones (which are actually kind of ugly anyway), already reached their peak a long time ago.

So I heard that you get a Sazh theme for getting the Loremaster trophy (Libra 100 enemies or something?) but I haven't gotten the theme yet, do I have to do something first? o.O I want the damned theme!
