Fall of the Living: First Outbreak (Full Game Thread)

I read the story and characters.

So is this going to be a sandbox type game, or is it gonna be mission-based?  Because sandbox would take this game from amazing to instant classic.

Both actually. The game has a pretty deep story that I am developing, but the gameplay is sandbox as in you can just go walk around and kill zombies and such when not on missions. But the missions will keep you interested, I assure you.

I have already made the story of how the characters get to each location, and the crazy events that unfold during the game. Trust me you are going to really like it. I'm just developing the diolouge and making the graphics so I can do this.

Wow.

How long will you expect the game to be?  Well, rephrase that, how long will the main story be?  A sandbox type game can go on forever but what about the main story?

Also, will the other characters you listed be playable or support?

For melee weapons, I suggest the following things:

A Katana.  Slice through the sons of bitches.

A Chainsaw, or the must-have for any zombie game.

A shard of glass.

A rake.  Just for the hell of it.

A lightsaber.  That would be awesome.

A clothes hanger

A plunger

A bored wrapped up in barbed wire.

Obviously, I prefer Melee.  So, lots and lots of melee weapons would be cool.

I'm not so sure about how long the story is, but there are plenty of other missions besides the main story. Other side missions and such. The way the game will work is that it will move from location to location as the main story progresses. You start of in the city, and I don't want to spoint it but certain events make you have to progress to the suburbs. You do main and side missions in the suburbs and you progress to other areas. I still have to write up a spoiler free info on the story. The characters are support characters only, but Arnold will be available for the Arcade/left 2 die/battle mode. But the characters will really help throughout the game, they wont just be characters with no actions. They will play a large role. I'm not sure how long the game is yet in time.

Well yeah the game will not be all action about shooting anything that moves. There will be plenty of melee weapons as well as make shift weapons and special attacks for them.

The sprite looks great, and the character summary's are good, but the summary's seem a little conventional, but they are still good
Conventional? I don't understand what you mean. Can you elaborate?

Well like Arnold Lilestone "Arnold is the muscle of the main 3 characters. He is more of an act before thinking type of person. Although is decent at stealth, he rather do things his way. Shooting anything that moves from the start to finish. Not your average "dumb muscle" but lacks making complex plans. He is often corrected by Kelsey, who is the brains of the operation. Can be a sarcastic prick but it's all for laughs for his satire style sense of humor. Has a taste for cheap cigars."

He really reminded me of Francis off of Left 4 Dead

Francis "Cocky, loud, and pretty sure he's indestructible, Francis acts like the zombie apocalypse is the worlds biggest bar fight. When the virus hit, everybody else stockpiled food and looked for a place to hide. Francis found a gun and had some fun. No cops, no laws no order-if it wasnt for all the zombies, he could almost get use to life"

Thats what i met by conventional, I see it in a okay bit of games, but I suspect it

Oh because he's supposed to be a Schwarzeneggar clone.  He will even have voice acting sounding like arnie, one liners like arnie, but wont be over the top action like arnolds films. I didnt even have francis or any of the left for dead characters in mind. But I guess you get that impression from not seeing any diolouge or anything which is understandable. But if you think about it, the left 4 dead characters are pretty generic so you can say that they are like alot of characters.

Daytime screenie!

For the intro scene of the game. I was trying to achieve a "sunset" effect. Which is what the orangish tint is for. The is supposed to be like the last amount of sun in the sky is illiminating the place. At night its duller and grayer, but at day its more vibrant (depending on the wheater)

Eh, the daylight seems like a bit to over the top. It's a bit hard to see and kind of confuses me >_>. Don't get me wrong, it looks good, but it could look better.

Yeah I'm still expirimenting with it. Its not supposed to be when the sun is completely out, but rather when it is very close to being completely out of the sky making it night. The orangish tint the sky gets at a pretty setset, rather than just a generic darker screen. But I don't know what you mean by hard too see and confusing.:0 I'll probley have to show a picture of real life so you guys can understand more because I'm not so well at explaining it.

Finding a real pic now.

Here is an example from GTA

http://www.gta4universe.com/upload/4187-gtaiv-multiplayer-screenshot.jpg[/img]

Keep in mind also that the player is in an alleyway in the screenshot.
And the shadows are dropping below the building heading towards the bottom of the screen.

Isn't that dusk though? Maybe some beams of light or something would help? It just looks kinda like you just tinted the screen. Which may be the case here but I don't know it doesn't really do it justice imo.

Arnold Lilestone looks a lot like Chris Redfield mixed with Barry Burton from the RE series. :D I do really want to play this game though.

You're doing damn fine work though mate! :thumb:

Oh but on the sprites you might want to check your light source. While they aren't bad. Its just the look a tad bit flat to me. Especially on the body armor type vest thingy. Or is it pillow-shaded? I can't say for sure. But like on the lady. Her pants make it look like she has two sets of thighs! But that might actually be what we call stye. :)

Thank you. :D Arnold needs to be buffer, he's a Schwarzeneggar knock off/parody. Dusk? is that what its called? sorry english isnt my first laungauge. :) The pic had a bit of shadow, see this is without the shadow layer

http://i40.tinypic.com/2zzrp5s.png[/img]

I will redo the shadow layer from a diffrent perspective.  :thumb:

Actually I think I like it better with the shadows. :( But its great nonetheless. Don't get caught up on the little things to much y'know? You're doing fine with what you got. And thats all anybody can ask for.

I like it better with the shadows too. :]
I am keeping the shadows, i was just posting that picture to show that I didnt just change the screen tone. The into is going at a good pace. On another update I have an original music composer that is doing a great job working on each track. He is also helping develop the story as well as gameplay ideas. Now with a 2 person team I am having an easier time.
