Discuss anime here.

I did read the Sacred Blacksmith manga the other day (the first manga I read in like years, lols) and it was totally fantasy!

I'm really not into high school animes or anything like that - what you see 99% of the time in stores, etc.

I see a lot of J-RPGs that are fantasy, but no manga/anime? How sad. ;_;

Recently watched Pandora Hearts:
I liked everything about it. The setting was amazing and the characters were really really cool! The only bad thing I have to say about it is that the ending isn't great...
I really thought it was going to crack up this whole story about the abyss and Alice's memories, but no. They just went with Oz's father complex... It was just a bit... Meh
I should read the manga really...
I also started on Attack on Titan. Like it. Not the best anime out there, but not the worst. It's enjoyable.

So I managed to get up to the most recent Attack on Titan, which means I've gotta wait till the next one.
So instead I began watching some other animes:
I started on UN-GO, Kinda finding that one hard to get into...
I also started watching Mushishi. It's so pretty, I really love it!

I watched Watamote yesterday after hearing about it. The whole show is mostly an internal dialog of this lonely high school girl who plays too many dating sim games. I thought it was pretty funny and could relate to some of her situations. Like avoiding people you know in public. Or dreading meeting an old friend because you don't want to answer "icky" questions like hows school or something that hasn't been going well at all.
Her delusions can be entertaining. She wants to be more sociable but can barely utter two words to anyone outside her family. So she considers answering yes or no to a cashier, a conversation with a hot guy.

I actually sorta despise watamote. There's no progression. There's no change. For someone like me who has read all the tropes and comedy and is too used to them, it's too easily predictable since the comedy becomes ANNOYING rather than new or refreshing. Execution is good, but that's all I have going for it. I feel as if the season will end with something almost sorta like progress, then the main character just recedes back to shit for the meaningless comedy scene and I'll go WHYYYYYY
I don't know, something about the main character REALLY IRKS me. If there was any progress or change, maybe, but.... nope.

While in agony last night, I tried to drown out the pain with anime.
Mushishi was too calm for me, I couldn't focus that well on it, so I tried Hakkenden: Touhou Hakken Ibun. the first ep was cool and it was alright.
I then assigned myself to watching Free! Iwatobi Swimming club. That show is pretty awesome. I mean, for me anyway. Hot guys in swim gear!
But there are only 4 eps so far so I finished them.
I'm now trying Bakuman. I fell out of touch with it ages ago, but I really do love it! <3

So I hear Attack on Titan's pretty tight. Two questions: Is this true? WHere can I find it (suggest me websites because I'm asking nicely :) )

The mystery of what the titans are is pulling me along.

But I don't see anything great about the animation. I don't know how many sequences are just shots of character's faces quivering or thinking to themselves. Slow pans of a single frame. The zipping through the city was pretty cool the first time I saw it, but I'm pretty sure they just reused the same sequence every time but with a different character layered on top. I was watching the first couple episodes back to back and thought they just went over and and under the same buildings every time even though they were suppose to be in a different place.

I only looked into it because everyone said it was different. But come on, it's basically flying ninjas and giant monsters wrecking shit. And you know, the teary eye promises to get stronger or protect so and so. I'd call the main characters "typical teenagers" except for their not so innocent childhood. That episode, something small killing something big, I hope the subtle symbolism was intended and that there are more episodes like it.
Someone said the Female characters are written so well. I think they meant to say they aren't sexualized anime cliches. But they're still quirky. I'm at episode 18 and I think there's only 2 female characters that have ever said anything important. The rest are just faces for the main characters to get attached to and cry over when they die. Cause lets face it, this is going to be one of those shows where everyone dies.

I think I just really have a thing for the thick outlines. It's so . . . different? I got through episode 18 as well and forced myself to read and catch up with the manga. Some pretty crazy stuff going to happen (obviously) but I agree that a majority of the episodes (and actually the manga too) involve close ups and inner thoughts of characters. That part did bug me a bit as after awhile it started to get old, but I also noticed that thankfully there are no over sexualized female characters, but all we get is Mikasa and Annie saying anything usually (this will change as more females get spotlighted on, or at least they did in the manga, hope that's not too spoilerish) All in all it's interesting because it's so different. And yeah, wtf is up with the Titans?! Even in the manga, we still don't know. STILL.

I think those thick outline shots are panels straight out of the manga. I noticed Inuyasha: The Final Act doing the same thing, and it followed the manga very closely. I thought it might indicated that they there made by the same studio but they arn't.

I just finished Devil survivor 2 the animation.
The whole thing was great. It was very profound and it ran many emotions in me. Although there were happy moments, the whole time everything felt useless. Like, Hotsuin was going to make the world horrible, or the world was going to be destroyed. The only feeling of happiness was all the victories Hibiki got. Every time Hibiki lost something or another person died, it was horrible. Anyway the thing I found worse was when the ending removed each character that died. Although the last ending was epic when it was like "HIBIKI VS HOTSUIN" Speaking of which that battle was epic, although I think they really limited themselves with it cause Satan and Lucifer were so big they couldn't really animate them moving that much. But when that happened my jiggly bits got all happy xD
IN OTHER WORDS THIS ANIME IS ACTUALLY VERY GOOD AND YOU SHOULD WATCH IT!

I always see One Piece but never took the time to actually read or watch the anime. I finally watched the first 3 episodes and it's alright. I'll probably continue watching it. Seems pretty lighthearted.

Unfortunately, it doesn't get much better, and often tends to get worse. There's a reason you'll find jokes all over the place describing a fanfic that makes less than no sense and has essentially no structure, immediately followed by "Congratulations! You are now qualified to write One Piece!"

Is that so? Bummer. Well I've seen the first 4 episodes (saw an episode since I last posted) and I do like the whole "Hey Let's assemble a crew" motif going on, but that's a little disheartening that the plot doesn't get good. It's amazing that it has LOADS of manga chapters and episodes!

Katanagatari. This video made it look good, so I'm hoping it is. It's from 2010, only has 12 episodes.

I'm going to start watching it after I finish Otome Yokai Zakuro, which is also from 2010 and only has 10 episodes. So far I'd describe it as a female Inuyasha.

So that's it for this season of attack on titan, and I just finished watching Jormungand so I guess I should continue watching Mobile Suit Gundam AGE

Awesome Bro

Attack on Titan is getting a proper dub release next year so I'll wait for that, saw my brother watching it the other day and he says it's great... I can wait though, I prefer English voices...
