There may well be bugs in this release as it's such a large release on a small timescale. Just let me know if you encounter any (broken enemy images, that sort of thing). Hopefully it will all go smoothly though.

Awesome Bro

The log-in screen is still messing up if you get your password wrong in Chrome. It shifts the input boxes down because of the added text on the top of the page while the boxes in the image remain in the same spot.

Unfortunately my connection is being slow tonight, so I'll have to play tomorrow.

The world map screen now shows all current split maps as one, with the new larger screen size.

A fully explored map currently looks like this:

Straupuft Marsh Mellow Man

A quest has finally been finished and is now fully playable. It even boasts a boss battle!

I'm in two minds whether to explain how to do the quest because I want it to be left up to you explorers. To start it though, talk to a mellow man, that's all I'm saying. Oh, alright, he's in Straupuft Marsh.

There is another unfinished quest (starts at West Gate) which is next on the agenda to be finished.

The quest has a small reward.

New maps, planned expansions

This is now the current world.

Highlighted planned areas:

1. "Large Eastern dungeon"

This is the path to the large city of Avalon, and was originally going to be a paid area. The dungeon will be available as a free update after much thought. This will be the culmination of quests 1 and 2.

2. North-West Expansion

This area is definitely going to be a paid only region. Large and full of open areas and multiple paths through it includes two outposts and links up with the docks in Damascar. This will be opened up by a quest series.

3. Mines

Not sure if this will be paid or free. It's a large dungeon that spans most of the world; more an underground world than a dungeon I guess. There will be entrances all over the place, and it will be opened up by quests. It will include an underground city.

Other

Not sure whether to fill in all the blank spaces in the map. It might just make it more confusing, but would add more exploration value. :4

I have created an error logger for people to use if they want to. I'll make it a convenient in-game popup.

For now:

http://vengeance-rpg.com/errors/

IPs are logged.

They'll be displayed in a big list where it will show the status of the error, whether it's been resolved, and any comments by me, so you can track progress of your report.

I have added a "history book" (free) to Tiben South, which has a timeline of important events leading up to the current day.

Tiben South is part of a planned expansion of the town which will eventually include some new quests.

This brings the number of items in the game to 79.

Edit: added another book.

---

Items can now be used in battle!

Currently the only item types available are "healing" items (they increase the player's current HP).

Generally the formula is near:

damage = - ((price / 10) * 3)

There are currently eight items usable in battle. They range from fish to wine, to bread and apples.

I have had feedback that the game is unplayable on some machines because images don't load.

I am going to set up two modes:

1. load while playing

This is the fastest mode; battle animations and other images are loaded as they are used. This means typically the first time you cast a spell you won't see it's animation as it won't have loaded yet. It does mean you don't have to wait for downloads. This mode is better suited for computers where you don't cache images, such as school computers.

2. load before playing

A loading sequence starts before entering the game which loads all used images into your cache. This is similar to how RuneScape works. This is more graphically pleasing, however it does mean you'll have to wait for the game to load any time you clear your cache. Once cached, you won't have to download the images again.

I have settled on afar.ws and have purchased the domain.

Computer guy - I'll look into it. I definately need to shop around this time.

Considering dreamhost, as they allow you to start on a cheap shared package (same price as I'm paying now) and then upgrade to a VPS as and when needed, which suits my situation well.

But yeah, anyway, Vengeance will be moving to http://www.afar.ws as soon as the domain is set up, and http://www.vengeance-rpg.com will be retired as soon as my web hosting runs out (July I think) on Servage. I can't stay on Servage... they're shit. This isn't the first time this has happened.

Now that the game is called Afar the V in the signatures doesn't make very much sense anymore, does it?
Anyway, great to hear you're still working hard on this :D

@gravija: The game is now called Afar, and http://www.afar.ws will be the official link once I get a new web host sorted out. Sorry, I should have explained that better.

@ares: yeah, I need to redesign the siggies. I'm going to allow paid members to choose a cool snazzy background and images, as a perk, heh.

Edit:

New Sigs

All sigs have been reset and will be redrawn on next viewing the Vengeance landing page.

Yeah. It's been the name of the world my games are set in since I started making them. Vengeance spurs from a series I once had released (not worth finding, since it was my first ever game, not very good lol) called Chronicles of Afar. 2004. Heh.
