Planned classes.

Tomorrow is going to see a huge update (about time!), with 25 new enemies added and grouped by map region.

Enemies will get marginally more powerful the further away from the central "base camp" map you go (in all directions).

I also plan to start implementing the classes above, as well as possibly opening up the Damascan desert for some paid-only content (since two people are now Knights, one through doing work for Vengeance and the other for a nice donation!)

University coursework looms once more so production might be slow after tomorrow's boost, however I plan on several small updates (new items and such) to keep the tide flowing in the downturn. I appreciate any suggestions you may have but I have several planned!

I've got a question about the Mage class, aren't Healer and Priest pretty much the same thing? Maybe get rid of one of them (Healer I'd say) and add an extra Archer class, that way each base class has two roads, but one of them is paid only ofcourse, which leads onto the third class.

... Hope that made sense.

That actually makes a lot of sense, good call. I'm not sure what the extra archer class should be though - something to branch off that isn't just "being able to hit better" (sharpshooter).

Ideally I want something to merge mage and archer, as they're missing a link.

Well, Archer can go Sharpshooter and Gunslinger perhaps?

And as for a merger between Mage and Archer... Arcane Bowmaster? I'm not really sure, that's the first idea that came to my head.

Replan: every class has two subclasses, one of which is paid only; each subclass then has a third level drawn from it combining it with another class on the tree.

Yeah I'd say that looks like a pretty decent tree right there, everything seems to make sense too (How the classes link together)

I don't really have any objections.

Concept: classes

From the menu, you can at any time switch to a class you have access to. Doing so gives you some stat bonuses and changes the title in your sig and character sheet.

You start off with four classes available:

Swordsman
Mage
Archer
Jack of All Trades (no stat buffs or nerfs)

Each class has a "level" associated with it. Every time you gain exp in a combat skill, your class level also gains exp, and levels up accordingly. Every time it levels up you get a bonus - a new skill, perhaps, or something else.

Once a class reaches it's maximum level (which might be 5, 10, etc) you have "mastered" that class, and a new quest will become open to you. That quest will allow you to take on a second-level class (knifeman, knight, etc) and so on, until you master every class.

Yes, this system is borrowed from Battleon slightly (though done differently as you can see), purely because it was a good system.

Furthermore, I am thinking of applying level caps based on how many class levels you have. That way you can't just grind your way to the max level as people have been, you'll actually have to do some playing...

Ok. There should be 29 new enemies added tonight which will be split into zones.

The Damascan Desert will be opened properly to Knights only, with four new exclusive enemies there.

If I have time along with this mass of new enemies will be some new items, and changes to current drop rates.

We now have 288 players!

Activity has waned however, admittedly this is down to be not updating the game in a while. I promise from now on at least one update a week, if not more. Won't be able to get back into daily updates for a short while as Uni work is coming up, but I will try and do my best.

Quote from elsewhere:

The game died. Well, it didn't, it's still online with new people joining all the while, but updates died. There's various reasons, mainly that I'm the only person who can contribute and I have been dead to the Internet the past few weeks.

But that will change!

I want to make Vengeance big(ger).

I also want to apologise to Megaflare because he is the only donator so far and has nothing to show for it. As such I will be fulfilling his request of being "the only paladin in the game". It is only fair, he donated way above the cost of a paid account.

Paid accounts will be released, I am thinking £5, but to make it more special I will be doing a £10 boxed version, and a £20 collectors edition boxed version. I know a lot of people like a box, you see.

There are many planned updates which I never finished.

Hmm.

In short, updates are coming. Eventually.

The boxed edition will be... well, a DVD case, with a certificate of knighthood (with a keycode on it to upgrade your game), a short manual, and possibly a bonus disk with some small extra content on. Basically just a "boxed edition" of the knighthood.

The collector's edition would have special content such as pins, postcards, making-of style DVDs, an art of vengeance book, and a lengthy tome of a guidebook/manual.

They'd be there for people who, like me, prefer physical content when they buy things. There's no reason why buying the online knighthood is any less special though. :)

I don't imagine many will buy the boxed game and collector's edition, I just feel it would make it more complete.

Oh jesus, I just found out no new account since 500 had initialized properly so they were all stuck with NULL stats for life :| that's 77/323 accounts

Why does nobody tell me these things? I'm so sorry.

I have decided to split the "very large expansion" up and release it in chunks, as that way you get more content right now. The first part I have titled Beasts of Afar, as it is an update to the enemies database.

It was planned for tonight but has been pushed back to tomorrow (Friday) due to the amount of work involved. It is "mostly done".

Update: I lied, the update is now live and finished.

What does the expansion involve?

At the moment there are five enemies to fight while traveling the world of Vengeance (which has been for a while called Afar, if you weren't aware!). There are a few others scattered around dungeons, but these are not available in random encounters.

The Beasts of Afar expansion adds 30 new enemies (that's right, brings us to seven times the current amount) to random encounter tables.

But that's not all! The expansion also involves the creation of random encounter groups. These are area-based groups of enemies, meaning you encounter a different set of enemies in each mini region. Farms will have different enemies to the desert, which will have different enemies to the fire caverns.

This update brings us to 49 total enemies, which includes 14 special instances from dungeons and quests (therefore 35 available in random encounters).

Three of the enemies added are only available to paid members (at current that service is unavailable, and only two people have these accounts as well as myself, for they have done work for the game or have generously donated to keep us online; however the service is coming in the near future) in the Damascan Sands region. This is a peninsula of 20 maps including a new city, that will be available during or shortly after the Beasts of Afar expansion.

Look out for the expansion tomorrow if all goes well. Until then have fun fighting the... five enemies in the game!
