Why Wii?

It'd hardly say that amount of generalizing is "enuff said", but if you narrow it down that way I don't see the problem. You seem to be making some sort of assumption that "hardcore gamers" are innately better than family games. Which is pretty much entire bullshit.

The Commodore 64 was sort of like a computer, I've got a Wii and I find the games fun, I don't go on the Wii that much now though, it can make my leg ache and my arms for standing up all that long lol  :-\

The Commodore 64 is a computer and it wasn't made by Nintendo.

The Wii is the Wii. It's got Nintendo, and that's why I have it.

So you buy something based on the name alone?  We call that fanboyism 'round these parts.

Let me remind everyone (including myself, I was about to reply to that 'overpriced ps3' thing) that this topic is about the WII.  W-I-I.  It's understandable that talking about the Wii means talking about it in relation to its competitors, but let's stay away from posts completely about said competitors.

This means "So you are Hardcore if you buys a overpriced graphic pack(PS3)..............Right....=/" is not something we should post.

To Despain's post: all preference.  And as I'm sure you're aware, people on the internet treat their preferences as facts.  I prefer games on the Xbox to any other system at the moment, but that doesn't mean I think the Xbox is the best.  Well I'd say it is, but that's largely just because it's had more time in the market.

That is the biggest load I've heard yet! Nintendo Wii aside, there plenty of ways to create atmosphere without cutting edge graphics: good music, gameplay elements, whatever. I read a quote from a webcomic believe it or not that, which may not be entirely true, brings up a good point,

It could happen. The Wii has already proven you don't need the most amazing graphics to succeed, and when you can finally get your head around the fact that good graphics does not necessarily mean good game (Heavenly Sword!!), you might just reach enlightenment! (Sorry, didn't know how to end it)

Let me inform you of something called a 'double negative'.  When a sentence includes two modifiers that negate the point, the point remains.  'Not Impossible' means 'possible'.

Fabulous post though.

ha ha. Talking about graphics huh? Remember RPG Maker XP? Is it impossible to make a great game with that? I've seen TONS of great games without freaking mighty graphics. So, I'd like to see someone make a RPG Maker XP game and make it "cutting edge graphics"!!! If you do that, I'll cut my but off.

I'm glad I don't read this webcomic.  CGI effects are redundant because directors rely on them instead of using them to enhance their game.  As I said earlier, God of War was one of the more visually powerful games on the PS2 but the developers incorporated fancy visuals with fun gameplay.

A bad game is a bad game.  Good graphics doesn't EQUAL a bad game just like bad graphics doesn't equal a bad game.  Just look at Bug Island, which is the biggest piece of trash on the Wii and has bad graphics.  You can turn to Kane and Lynch, a game with good graphics but stale gameplay for the other side of the spectrum.

Sorry, I didn't notice you said impossible. It was 7 in the morning at the time. Indeed you're correct, it's not impossible to make a good game without the great effects. Apologies Andy.

I know, and the quote says "They'll slowly become redundant like CGI effects"... that means it's been recognised already that CGI effects are redundant. Talk about overuse of the word redundant in this post...

I don't want to pay over $400 to play a Playstation for the third time maybe perhaps.

Fap fap fap.  ::) Honestly, it could be said that the Wii sells better because it appeals to more people, and I see nothing wrong with that. I doubt the executives in Nintendo's advertising department cry themselves to sleep lamenting that crusty-bearded weirdos aren't the only ones buying their games.

There's something to be said about creating a console that appeals to a wider audience than hardcore, 25+ gamers. They can hook in younger players, or even entire families. I must have slept in the day producing a product that lots of people can enjoy became something companies are ridiculed for.

Nintendo has a fun, innovative product with slightly lame graphical capabilities. Microsoft has a sexy, functional machine that my younger brother has replaced five of. Sony has a gorgeous, streamlined masterpiece that stills plays just like we remember Playstation. And that's not a bad thing. Graphical upgrades to an old, familiar game can be awesome. I know I'd love to have an upgraded version of Galaga kicking around. Not that I'd give two pay checks for it.

No offense Itachi-Hime this isn't the first time you've complained about graphics at all. Anyways about people paying so much when the Wii first came out. It is because the first few weeks many people will pay more then 2 fold the price of the systems value just to have it earlier. Also, some people are rich, and can throw that money around. I think people overrated graphics far to much graphics are nice. However, if a game plays like shit with the best graphics ever made I won't play it for very long.

The point I was making was that something becomes redundant when it's not used properly.  Just look at Pan's Labyrinth or the original Underworld; both movies used very little CGI (about 1,200 effects which is a 10th of what Lord of the Rings used) and because they incorporated make up effects with CGI effects, they created a realistically gritty atmosphere instead of something that was, say, like Transformers and made up of 90% CGI.

heh, no one said hardcore gamers are any better... *rolls eyes*
When you play often, you equip yourself the best you can. But you can always equip yourself with a wii and enjoy family games. I do love games of that sort, but sometimes I prefer solo games on pc.

Okay, Time to get crucified for this but basically my opinion on the wii is that it's highly overglorified and not built to last, I mean yeah the wiimote is fun and quirky, you can shoot with it, club a baby seal, bash the bishop, whatever, but at the end of the day it's a gimmick that will wear off sooner or later when sliding your hand up and down on your mote is added to every game just for it to be there instead of something meaningful (i.e. most of the movie-title games on it a.k.a 90% of it's library excluding the wii store), and plus there is hardly any variety in the games either.

Don't nail me up yet, I mean you got some good titles like the ones Despain listed, and some of the more innovative launch titles like Red Steel (I enjoyed it, not much replay value though), but then you got the mass amount of garbage titles, like all the movie-game ports, the shoddy PS2 rerelease ports (excluding resi 4), the children's games like stab me elmo or barbie does dallas, and then the exercise games that'll tell you you're a thick fat twat even if you've the brainpower of Stephen Hawking and built like Arnie back in his prime. But anyways if you wanna go for it go for it, hell I'll sell you mine, just don't blame me when the only games they release are Dogz: Cockfight master 4 and Mama cooks YOU!!

That's my 2 cents anyways. :p

Not sure if anyone mentioned the actual size of the Wii. It's basically a DVD-ROM (Think External) in size. Seriously bloody amazing compact piece of machinery, this is the same as the Laptop – Computer argument. It could probably fit into a hand bag and it’s bloody light. I mean, try lounging around a PS3, XBOX 360 or even a computer, it’s hell even with the right bag. I like to take things around to friends places and brothers flat to do some small gaming. I for one find Single Player for MOST games boring myself not sure about anyone else, as the competitiveness for Multiplayer is awesome.

Even though the Wii may be similar to the GameCube, it’s nowhere the same in size. Mario Galaxy is a beautiful game, has awesome lighting, fog effects, particle water without the Lag. Now how did Halo 2 perform on the XBOX? Third Party developers are lazy and don’t refer to Nintendo, or they don’t know what the Wii can actually handle performance wise. The ATI/AMD GPU has a lot of potential, and can support many modes. I’d refer to Mario Galaxy as much as I could because of its Beauty.

The Wii is like Tai Chi for old people, it gets you exercising and is incredibly healthy. Instead of sitting down with an analog controller on the other side of the room, you could be up jumping around getting those muscles working. Raving Rabbids left me aching and breathless (I’m not a fat ass).

I think of it like this, the Wii is an XBOX and PS2 combined with full interactivity.

P.S. There was a rumor that a lot of Square-Enix games will be going to Wii / DS. Such as any new Kingdom Hearts releases.

Would you rather play Tetris on Gameboy, Gamecube or Wii?

Funny you mention that. Anyone noticed Nobuo Uematsu is doing some compositions in Brawl? Someone I was chatting to was saying that this could be because Nintendo is borrowing some stuff from Square for Brawl, so we might expect to see a Square character joining the fray, Cloud or Sora perhaps. In return, in the next Kingdom Hearts we might see in replacement of Disney locations (we've seen repeats of some already in the second installment; that was no fun!), Nintendo locations. Can you imagine fighting heartless alongside DK?!

This is highly unlikely and but a pipe dream so don't go taking this seriously.

Why?
Gameboy, for the same reason as Despain. I don't really like playing RPGs on a console because my arse falls asleep.  :-\

I'd rather not play Tetris at all, but I can't help myself...
