What would you want in a Final Fantasy VII Remake?

Or just stop posting off the topic or I'll delete your posts and hand out infractions :D

I for one would love a remake. Why? Because I'm a fan, and I so enjoy being serviced.

I don't know how I feel about the translation of certain things being changed. I mean, never mind the fact that I always translated Aerith's name as "Elise" and I remember when Barret was "Bullet." Fact is, I have a hard time swallowing Aerith, partially because it makes not sense as a name to me. I say, keep it Aeris since they would be accomplishing little else than changing her name for the majority of English speaking fans.

"This guy are sick." I don't know if I could tolerate the removal of that epic line.

I just don't know. Sure - it could be cleaned up, and it certainly will be in the process of voicing it over (I also thing the US voice cast for those characters is awesome, although honestly I thought Mandy Moore did a better Aerith... I dunno).

I hope they leave the battle system untouched, besides adding a more active camera. I'd like to see them add some more magic resistant and physical attack resistant characters, but seeing as how I levelled up obsessively in that game in the spiral tunnel near the beginning, I can't remember how hard the game was. I know I was killed by Lost Number the first couple of times, etc., but I can't recall much else.

The Materia system was fantastic and inspired. I'd prefer they leave it untouched, besides maybe adding some new spells.

Also - CHOCOBO RACING OMG!!!

I say they make Yuffie and Vincent mandatory characters, since Vincent especially is actually pretty central to a lot of the plot points, and have 2 NEW secret characters. I dunno, give us a Turk, give us Don frikkin Corneo, I dunno. Alternate costumes? Yes please! New limit breaks? Hell yeah!

Elaborate on Red XIII's background!!! What the hell is the significance of XIII?! Elaborate on Vincent and Lucrecia!

I can think of only a few ways Square is likely to screw this up, because I think they generally do good at this sort of thing. Maybe it's just me, but I enjoyed DoC for what it was - a story heavy, average third person shooter. It was fun enough that I enjoyed myself throughout.

I want this to happen so bad it hurts!

Stop dissing it!

(Please note that FFVII is not my favorite Final Fantasy, rather, I enjoyed every single one of them immensely, and I don't think it's a blind joy because I can certainly admit that Square can screw up a franchise - Unlimited SaGa, I'm looking at you! Mana series - you too! Dawn of Mana had better rock.)

Also, the "roots" of final fantasy are story-devoid games featuring no more than an idiotic magic system and mindless grinding to keep from being slain in one hit for walking over a bridge. I think we've come a long way.

Also, I want you to stop and think how the character of FFVI would translate to realistic 3D. Think of the costumes. Think of Kefka.

Yeah.

Sabin has flowers on him.

Yeah.

Just a quick sidenote, XIII was the project number that Hojo assigned him.

But, I agree that Red XIII could use a little more development. I think that keeping Yuffie and Vincent as hidden characters is fine....just make it so they are never missable.

If they're never missable (sic), then they're not hidden.

By missable I meant that they can be obtained at any time. They can be hidden (you can complete the entire game without them), but Vincent was missable. If you did not get Vincent the second time in the mansion, then you could not get him in your game.

So, I think they should still be hidden, but not missable because you can go back at any point in the game and get them.

In all fairness Corona, FF12 was actually a step up from previous games in the series, and Revanent Wings is a good idea, even though the ending was basically shut and close.

And the relationship between Vincent and Lucrecia has been explained and understood in it's entirety already.....so you know :p

Oh, I know, but they could have put it all in one game, and made it a mandatory part of the story, since really it makes other parts make sense.

With the exception of dependant series like Xenosaga, I don't think I should have to play a spin-offs to finally cement in my mind a character interaction.

I assumed in FFVII that Vincent and Lucrecia had been lovers, but after playing Dirge of Cerberus, which, if you can forgive me, I consider canonical, I couldn't fairly make such a claim. I would have LIKED to know that before, because it really changed my attitude towards other characters, specifically Hojo, Lucrecia, and Vincent himself. Really, Vincent's "sin" was never explained in FFVII, and while it's great that the spin-off centered around him elaborated on the character, these are plot points that were in some ways essential to the original story.

So yeah, because of the fact that Vincent and Lucrecia are, really, much more important and involved in the plot than the original game lets on, they should be woven more intricately in in any remakes.

They are definitely remaking this in any sense...there have been a few slip ups from the members at Squaresoft in what they've said, the guy that created FF7 was asked before if they were going to remake it and he said i can't atm as i am currently doing KH2, which could say that he stills plans to do it...but the thing about that is KH2 was already out when he said it...which was a rather weird answer.

And then theres the fact that Squaresoft still haven't fully recovered from the Spirits Within Incident and FF7 is their last trump card, they are basically just trying to build it up more and more over the years...give it a couple of years and we'll be playing it on our 360's and PS3's for definite.

I would love to see a remake of this game with the following

1. better graphics
2. Voice overs
3. A meaning for the 1/35 soliders
4. Make the masamune replica a usable Item
5. More stuff to do after you beat the game or stuff you can unlock
6. A battle where you can have Reno fight with you.
7. Be able to fight all the Weapons.

"but the thing about that is KH2 was already out when he said it...which was a rather weird answer."

Mac he probably meant Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix +.

Okay, didnt SquareSoft MERGE with Enix because of the whole Spirits Within thing? Or at least, one of the reasons. That way they could recover from it? I am pretty sure they have recovered from it a while back because of the merger. They pump out twice as many games, after all (not completely a good thing, since half of them are remakes, but whatever, gotta make your money some how).

And when you say he was working on KH2. Are you SURE he said KH2 or did he say KH3? Or just KH in general? (Or as the guy above me said, he could have been refering to Final Mix+ at the time). Because he has stated many times that he wants to concentrate on the KH FRANCHISE(sp). Which is one reason why FFXIII *may* be his last FF. And the guys name is Tetsuya Nomura, btb. And he isnt exactly the creator of FF7 either. He was the character designer, and I think one of the co-writers or directors. There were three, people, if i am correct, that wrote FF7. Nomura was still mainly a character designer at the time of FF7.

Though it is a good possibility for a remake, I still am not getting my hopes up. This has been up in the air for what... 2-3 years now? Maybe longer? And there have been far too many rumors to accuretly say 'definately' at the moment. But, I know I would be one happy PS3 owner if they did! =D

WHOA! I might as well have jumped into a pit of rabid dogs! Here's a few things to settle up:

1) I never said XIII would be the last Final Fantasy! I hope it isn't, honestly. I was referring to how the series got it's name because before the original FF came out, Square was barely afloat, it might have LITERALLY been the last RPG they ever made! They called it Final Fantasy as a sort of gruesome joke, I guess.
2) "@#$%" was supposed to be "%$#@"?! What the ^&@# are you on? Seriously, does it honestly matter if they screwed up a censor line? We still know what they meant, and the spelling isn't exactly set in stone! Although the other slip-ups do bother me, I mean, Safer-Sephiroth? Off course! And when on the Highwind, if you use any name other than Aeris' base, it looks stupid when Cait Sith says "I told Sara' momma about her death", maybe they could use something to tell if the last letter's still "s" or not in a remake? Seriously, they shoulda tried ta talk beddah, as the Costa del Sol barmaid would say.
3) The Spirits Within was truely a disaster, no doubt. They probably should have waited for newer technology before doing something that risky, at least until they could get past the "they look like living mannequins" phase. Besides, Dr. id?! Gawd! Besides, who else thinks the plot was a blatant rip-off of FFVII's Lifesteam concept to some degree? Great, shouldn'ta said that, getting yelled at in 3... 2... 1... huh? Nothing? Oh, yeah. Didn't post it yet. Duh!
4) I know the whole Aerith-Aeris thing isn't a mistranslation, it's Engrish at work, never heard it said Elise before though. I'm just saying, it seems a little too late to change the pronunciation! Why not just make Barret Bullet and Cait Sith Ket C or Cait Sidhe like they are supposed to romanized while we're at it? (except KetC, people just put that in when they're too lazy to write Cait Sidhe, which is pronounced Caught Shee, as a little fun fact)
5) Tifa in a bikini, yes! (you could fit it into the Costa del Sol visit) Don Corneo joins the team, WTF?!O_o (I'd sooner play as a team of Palmer, Johnny and the Chocobo Sage!)
6) They really should consider throwing in some kind of hint to find Yuffie, maybe an encounter with her directly after the Gold Saucer where she runs into the woods? It just seemed kind of random how you got her by fighting monsters in the woods without a reason.
7) MUSHROOM Kingdom Hearts?! Wow, that's a 1... 3... 704... well, I can't count, but I know it's a big deal! Is that gonna be a real game or some RMXP fangame? It'd be a sort of like an SSB meets Disney and Square-Enix. Cool, three franchises I love, two of which hate each other's guts! (Walt Disney borrowed $5 from Shigeru Miyamoto, the guy who came up with Mario, and never payed him backXD no actually, I was referring to the whole Square-Nintendo falling out back during Super Mario RPG's developement. Never again will we see such a great collaboration of the best first and third parties in video gaming in general again, at least with Geno and Mallow in it.)
8) I'm trying to stop being so dang offensive, I'm not trying to hate on a topic, just express my opinion like anyone else, if I wanted to offend people, I would the easy way: say something stupid and innaccurate like "Don Corneo is the best villain ever! He could so PWN Sephiroth!" (not really, he's a lame fat pervert with weird hair whose only friends are his weird pet *appses and he'd die of wetting himself if Sephiroth even walked into the same building as him)
9) Actually, the whole remake hype was spurred, or at least catalyzed, when Electronic Gaming Monthly foolishly reported the PS3 technical demo was really a video demo for FFVII's remake, never did put much stock in the magazine back when I was an obsessive subscriber, I preferred ExpertGamer.

Jeez, Corona, your posts are goddamn LONG and BORING and POORLY FORMATTED...

Anyways, I'd want... FF7 Remake... no. I don't want an FF7 remake. But maybe, if they make one... I don't event know. Improved graphics, maybe some new items, weapons, etc... and some badass cutscenes.

On a related note, it'd be nice if you couldn't miss getting other stuff, like summon materia. (I'm still annoyed about Ramuh, even after getting all the others...) ':|

Okay, I keep hearing the words 'Mushroom Kingdom Hearts' thrown around in this thread. From my understanding, that was a JOKE. EGM made a fake little early april fools ad for it. Nothing about it was serious. So those who keep talking about it, its a joke, don't take it seriously XD

You know, I do think Aerith seems a bit more prettier than Aeris. But i am not sure what i'd prefer. I mean, i grew up on Aeris, haha, so its still ackward to call her Aerith. But as for screw ups, if there was a remake, and had full voice over like FFX and XII, you can expect the script to most likely be VERY different. Most likely the same meaning, but said completely different. Which would be refreshing and probably make a lot more things actually make sense! For me, I'd welcome many changes. An FFXIII battle system would be GREAT for FFVII due to Advent Children. I'd love to see law defying battling! Hopefully they'd spice up many of cut scenes as well!

I know what you mean ~.~ the number one reason i use walkthroughs for games... the missable stuff!! I hate playing a game over again because I missed something that was part of a collection. I mean, you cant get the master materia (well, a second one, you can always get one of each from beatting the weapon, but whatever!) if you missed ONE summon! I remember, both my friend and I missed Bahamut Zero our first time through because of that stupid train! I ended up going through the game 4 times, and on my fourth try, finally got EVERYTHING because i got fed up and used the walkthrough to find the stuff i was missing >.>

Really? For me it was the rocket:

Cid: I think there's a O somewhere...

Fat lot of good that does me! Oh, and on a prior comment:

Jeez, Corona, your posts are goddamn LONG and BORING and POORLY FORMATTED...

At least I can spell, "I don't event know.", sheesh!:p
But I'll give you this much: I do post way too much at once, and it is sometimes poorly formatted, but boring is something I don't do! It's just that most of the stuff I WOULD use to spice up what I write more would be even longer and (98% of the time) inappropriate for use in a public forum (it'd make Barret or Cid sound like Fred Rogers or the mom on Leave it to Beaver!):D
Hmph. Poorly formatted. At least I use commas.

Ahem. Tiny grammar mistakes italicized, , Spelling Mistakes are bold. Monstrous atrocities of your speaking are underlined. Embarrassments to humankind: Your entire post.

In a final note, I've already posted my opinion, so here's to Corona!

The next person to say anything about another member's grammar or spelling gets an infraction for trolling, K?

Now, my mention of Don Corneo was mostly a joke, but I still think that would be a fun secret character. Johnny was a good idea too, though. Palmer needs to continue being killed by a truck. My heart giggles everytime I see that.

Shadow123: Killer avatar. Favorite game ever.

David: Totally agree with you. I think that, if they do a remake, that nothing should be permanently missable. It's not a huge deal now, because most likely the people that would buy the remake are fanboys that have memorized (from bad experiences in the past) exactly where every hidden item is, but I still think everything should be obtainable. Make them worth a huge amount of gil that you can only buy from a hidden vendor at the very end of the game if you have to, but don't let me miss them.

Arcthemonkey: I absolutely love when Palmer is hit by the truck!
*chuckles at remembering Palmer fly through the air and the dull thud of his body against the grill*

An option for the battle system to work like star ocean 3's one.that would be pimpin :D.Also for them to fix the spelling mistakes and japanese voice acting, hated the english version of AC.Maybe add in a way to revive aeris too and for them to have the story run the way it was meant to(aeris meant to die in the materia cave not in temple of the ancients)
