What would you want in a Final Fantasy VII Remake?

I hated FFVI, and I hated FFIX. I loved FFVII and I loved FFX. Amazing.

See, one thing I am getting sick of in FF's is the lack of an over world map! I would LOVE a next gen world map to fly around and explore!! But of course, possibly make it a bit more realistic. Like the towns are real sized or something. Whatever. I just loved flying around! Only part of FFX i didnt like. I wanted to FLY!! I just loved the freedom, haha.

Anyways, getting off topic. There is no other remake I want more than an FF7 one. If not for the soul reason 'full voice over'. Now that I've heard the VAs, i would love to play through the game and HEAR the characters. Reading just doesnt have the same effect anymore! I'd love them to bring the characters to life and give them more color.

dude, how can you hate IX? thats probably one of the cooler ones and for the record it DID have an overworld map, and if they were to remake 7, I'd say replace the overworld map with travellable areas, the way FFXII did it, plus it'd be great to see them ditch random encounters and replace with an FFXIII battle system as that system was actually based on advent children, but the one thing they'd have to keep is....

How? FF7's story was better. FFVI bored me. The characters bored me. The battle system bored me. I hated the game, the characters, the world, so much... funny too, cuz I enjoyed playing earilier FF's more =D (I actually feel FFVI is more overrated by fans than FFVII, because for years now, I've heard nothing but defense in FFVI's position, and hatred in FF7's... strange).

Even if they are simular in story, i felt FF7's was far seperior. I just could NEVER get into FFVI. I had no ambition for it. It was too stale... to... gray you could say. It just didnt have any LIFE to it, like i felt FF7 did.

(Oh, and do note, I'm not a huge fanboy. FF7 wasnt my first FF nor my fav. That would be FF8, which I think is even funner than FF7. FF8 is, if I break it down, actually my favorite. Its what got me hooked, and its what made me play every last dang FF from start to now. Except that stupid Crystal Chornicles... in fact, I want an FF8 remake >O)

I agree with Zankoku. I've tried FF6 and it's just boring. Even if the stories are "exactly similar" which no, they are not, FF7 is supreme in every way. The only people who like FF6 more than 7 are people who call themselves "FF Extremists", who have the attitude that they know more about the series than everyone else. I'm not describing you like this, Celes, but as to most of the ones I've seen, that's the way it is.

And as for a remake, just leave it the same with upped graphics and voice-overs. Also, a Kingdom Hearts battle system would be nice. Or FFXIII, they are about the same (seeming as FFXIII and KHIII will be using the same engine). FFXIII's, if you didn't realize, is simply a turn-based battle system in which you can run around. Fresh, original, yes, but not what it could be.

Oh, believe me, we know how you feel. How do you think the rest of us feel? We get Dirge of Cerberus, a shooting game with barely any actual gameplay, and that there is has lousy controls, Before Crisis, an either cell-phone or PSP game, they can't decide which, and I only hear about it, and Last Order, what I assume is an anime (?) miniseries or movie which I CAN'T EVEN FIND! Half of the FFVII spinoff stuff is harder to find than Domo-kun shaped sugar cookies at a diabetic convention! Though I would love to see a Final Fantasy VI movie or maybe a FFIII compilation, not that a game that straightforward need it, Square-Enix doesn't care as long as they churn out Final Fantasy MMXXXII on time (yes, they are working that far up:D ) I, personally, am a fan of the comatose Chrono series, a truely overlooked crowd. Where's Chrono Series Compilation, Chrono Trigger: Until the End of Time the movie, or CHRONO CROSS: VIPER MANOR CHRONICLES? All Final Fantasy does is plug random plot elements, design new ambiguosly gendered-looking characters, put some stupid logo behind the Final Fantasy (insert number here) tradmark, slap that on the case, put in some new battle element or something and ship it and everyone keeps on eating it up! It's been that way since FFIX! Jeez. And now with this "compilation", will it ever end? I would love a FFVII remake with better graphics and voiceovers as much as the next guy, but hasn't it gone far enough yet? They need to give the series a break, y'know, maybe re-release the games so people can catch up and then continue, not just keep moving the series along until people have no concept of the true roots of Final Fantasy, how it began with Square about to go under and the swan song of one programmer, how it's called Final Fantasy because it might have really been the last game made by Square, how it pulled RPGs out of the garage and into serious developement with FFVII, soon it might become like Virtua-Fighter became with 3D fighting games: lost in the sea of games it helped make what they are today.

But really, they should just release it again with voiceovers and better graphics, just use the original clothes, not that really lame emo look Advent Children had, I always HATED that.

Am I the ONLY person smart enough to avoid insulting ANY game as well as their FANS?? I liked every Final Fantasy I ever played and/or watched (FF1, FF2, FF5, FF6, FF7, FF8, FF9, FF10, FFAdventure, ChocoboRacing, FF:Legend of the Crystals, FF: the Spirits Within, FF7: Advent Children, FF7: Dirge of Cerberus, KH1, KH: Chain of Memories, KH2, and if you can include it: Chrono Trigger).

Everybody has opinions, and everybody has a right to EXPRESS those opinions. But doing so in a way that hurts other peoples' feelings is just sick. If you want to say how much you love a game, fire away. If you want to say how much you dislike a game, hold your fire. Stop the insults.

P.S. I, too, am looking forward to taking care of the chocobos, as well as riding and racing them, in an FF7 remake. And I am also looking forward to 3D remakes of FFs 1-6.

Whoa, since I clearly started the fighting, I'm taking one square on the chin: I didn't mean to insult anyone (but I know I do a good job anyways:thumb: ) I like Final Fantasy, and I think they're all good, some more than others in some ways, lacking in others respectively, but I just feel Square-Enix is straying too far from the series' roots, starting to turn it into just another RPG series, getting it lost among the many. They need to revolutionize a little, not just keep popping out something and putting "Final Fantasy" on it, with VII, it was the addition of FMVs and 3D graphics, what I'm saying is they need to dare a little, you know? Get a storyline that truely sticks out among the masses, although in the defense of others, the whole "empire killing a planet thing" used in VI was UPDATED to corporate domination in VII, they are different to some degree, I may sound a bit foolish talking in my usual ranting sense, but they have to give the other Final Fantasy serieses- um... serii (WHAT IS THE PLURAL FORM OF SERIES?!) a chance. Compilation of FFVII should be extended to "Compilation of Final Fantasy", maybe an aftermath movie for VI, a prequel to VIII, that sort of thing. The whole series deserves a little, FFVII is just the most famous, I'm saying the series should be like the Marx brothers, they should all get in on the act, not just Groucho, not just Harpo nor Zeppo nor Gummo but all of them. I'm not saying Chrono Trigger doesn't deserve a little fame too (10+ years is a long time to sit in your big brother's shadow and it's probably gotten mighty pale and sickly) but maybe not yet, at least not in Compilation, Chrono will get its time again, just not yet, or at all with how SE feels, but how can we honestly change that, unless we reunite the Dream Team and get them to agree to work for Square-Enix? Oops, sort of off topic... well, in short, sorry to go bashing FF like that AND ranting, I'm sort of a loose cannon at the keyboard, now let's try to drop my foolish subject change and get back to the reason this thread was started: an FFVII remake! It's a cool idea, but with Square-Enix's sick sense of humor (oh! we can make a technical demo, but a remake? sorry, we're too busy developing Final Fantasy XXXVI to worry about possibly one of the most brilliant ideas yet, i mean, honestly, listening to our fans? when have we ever done that? we're milking the life out of lousy FFVII spinoffs and a lame dvd that was basically Crouching Red XIII-Hidden Bahamut, the Chrono series is still in a coma, and what are we doing? Kingdom Hearts 3, because we tell our fans what they want, and they want Disney and Final Fantasy characters from games they'd rather have either redone or continued in an appropriate sequel completely toned down, with no swearing or smoking, and AeriS' name translated wrongly as Aerith!) I don't see that happening anytime soon, they like to watch us writhe in pain over what we don't get, angry posts directed at them fuel their "create-a-new-final-fantasy" machines. Seriously, though. Has anyone else realized their slowly dropping creativity since FFVIII? Even their remakes and sequels seem a little uninspired, they still hold up to the Final Fantasy quality we expect to some degree, but it seems like they don't want to go above and beyond the call of duty anymore, and a Final Fantasy VII remake would entail that more than anything, since it would let down a larger part of their fanbase than a bum new release since people can overlook that, but the remake would have something to compare to.

There you go again.... Can't you realize that there are people out there who LIKE the remakes? People that LIKE the cliches? People that LIKE it as an RPG? Just because a lot of people don't know what Final Fantasy is, or if they do, they don't like it, it doesn't change what is permanently implanted in Final Fantasy fans' blessed hearts.

Personally, I'm all for remakes. If it weren't for Dawn of Souls, I'd probably have never beaten FFs 1 & 2. And although this "Mushroom Kingdom Hearts" thing they're making does seem a little odd, people said that about the original idea for Kingdom Hearts in the first place. I'm looking forward to wacking King Koopa upside the head with a plastic Keyblade.

In closing, AeriTH's name is not being mistranslated in Kingdom Hearts and Advent Children. There were a lot of translation errors in FF7:

1. "Man in Black Cape" was supposed to be "Man in Black Coat"
2. "Safer-Sephiroth" was supposed to be "Seraphim-Sephiroth"
3. "@#$%" was supposed to be "%$#@"

There were always translation errors up until 1998. I hope they fix `em in the remake.
