What would you want in a Final Fantasy VII Remake?

Whilst I have my doubts that square will remake Final Fantasy VII in the next ten years, I have curiously wondered what they might change about the game, given that if they were to remake it, they'd probably do a few changes to a few of the systems.

I know there are a few of you out there who would hate to see yet another FF Remake, yes ccoa I'm talking about you, and quite frankly I'd agree with you on most cases, but I'm quite looking forward to the EU release of FF3 for the DS, provided I actually buy a DS first. I remember when Origins/Dawn of Souls first came out, can't remember which was first, I was like, okay that's cool. Then the ports weren't so bad because it allowed people who hadnt played the SNES and NES games to play them. Now aparently they're remaking FF1+2 again for the PSP in just a minor graphical update, something I am going to hate with a passion because quite simply, why do this, when you can do a 3D update now just like they'd previously done with the DS version of FF3. However if they do the FF7 Remake one day, I would like to see it done properly.

Here's my question for you, if you could have your say on what would change in the FF7 Remake what would you say.

Personally, I'd say that the game should obviously recieve the graphical overhaul to PS3 standards and possibly an update of the materia system to include new spells or maybe 3/4 way slots that could link things like All-Fire-MP Drain or something. I'd also like to see it's battle system either recieve an update to look more modern and look more like the one's we've seen since FFX or even since FFVIII, or update it futher to give it a similar battle system to something like FF13 or 12, to make the process of battle's less tedious.

What would you like to see?

I think the game is pretty solid besides the out-dated graphics. The systems all worked pretty good, and I don't think it needs an update. But either way widescreen support would be nice.

Better battles. Then battles in FF VII are far to easy and 95% of them can be won by just attacking and healing. I would like to see harder encounters that doesn't permit a single strategy that works for all of them.

A way to shorten summmon and limit break anomations. No animation is ever so good I don't get tired looking at it for the tenth time. When I'm tired of them I want to be able to shorten them to something more to the point.

True, FF VII is the most popular, well-known, fun, and heart-string pulling game in the series. I'm all for re-makes, especially one for FF7.

Things I'd like to see are:

1. Better Graphics (of course)
2. New Materia. Something like "Hide", which would exempt you from the battle for so long, or "Trade" which would let you switch materia or accessories with another party member, or even a "PHS" materia, to switch party members in battle.
3. How freakin' awesome the G-Bike mini-game will be! :)
4. Voice-acting in every scene.
5. New Limit Breaks (like Cloud's "Omnislash Ver. 5" from Advent Children)
6. Repaired Translation. Instead of "the Man in the Black Cape", it would be "the Man in the Black COAT" like it obviously is. Instead of "Safer-Sephiroth", it'll be what it was originally intended to be: "Seraphim Sephiroth".
7. FLYING THE HIGHWIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG, I just realized how much I want a FF7 remake. I MUST HAVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GNARRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dirge of Cerebus anyone? It's a PSP sequel to FFVII...
Besides that, I'd like to see it with updated graphics, and maybe a longer game? Not that FFVII was short or anything but if they've done all the storyline now, surely a little extra explination/plot thickening/ just extra random crap thrown in would be pretty nice.
+ I believe Square should start looking at other consoles again. They seem to have become Playstation fanboys/girls... While i agree the PS2/PSP are good consoles, they'd get a HELL of a lot more audience if they ported games to the Xbox and maybe even Wii. I prefer not to include the PC translations as they were just.... crap.

Fuzzy, I think the reason they stick with that is (from what I heard) Sony owns a bunch of their stock, and why change? More than half of their games are on the playstations, and they like to keep the "main" final fantasy on the same kind of system, you know?

I think if there was a FF7 remake, they should just update graphics, have a more involved battle system, and better translation. They don't need anything NEW, people will just buy it if it looks good.

Exactly as Rye said, nothing new needs to be added...people loved the game for originality and adding stuff just wont work.

I don't know, Mac is right. The game was fine (Besides graphics). But... I would like to see peoples reaction to a new FF7 game. I think a new animated battle system would be great! I can't stand Side view battles. Still, this is just a opinion (Don't kill me)

If they changed ANYTHING that had to do with the games system works, i would be THOROUGHLY PISSED OFF!

The ONLY thing i think they should ever update are obviously the eye candy in ALL respects, and instead of readable text, Voices, Eg. FFX X-2 and XII.

The game should retain its old style of system configurations!

All i would want is next gen graphics and a full voice over. Other than that, the game is fine by me. I mean, its a game that deserves better graphics and voice over. It would only add to the experience, rather than keep it the same or change it. Its a game that doesnt need a lot of changing. Just something simple that would make others who are turned away due to graphics, or even those who have played it many times, want to play it for a new experience, yet are not ripped from the great experience that was first intended. If that made any sense...

I think it'd be cool if they ditched a world map and made a huge landscape for players to explore. Sure it may add on travel times between some places, but it'd be pretty cool.

Confetti cartridge that explodes when Aeris dies.
Seriously..I'm very tired of Expanding and re-doing seven. I however, would love to see a gussied up ff6 or ff4, and I think Nine deserves a sequel more than ten did.

Heer heer!
I'm surprised someone else other than mysef in all the blue world liked 9 better than 10.

Though the last time they gussied up 6, and every time they did for the others on a sony platform, the loads and extras were pathetic, in my oppinion.

10 was good, but 9 was just an all-out, incredible game. I think remakes of IV, VI, VII, (I would play a remake of VIII) and IX (bundle package, perhaps?) would be incredible.

I would put up the money!

Most people I know hated 9 - after they played ten, or hated it and didn't want to play it because it went more "old school" to the pre 7 & 8 days (and 6 but they wouldn't know 6 if it bit them on the ass).

The only thing that would make me pay for a remake of 7 would have to be big. If they added just that much new stuff to it, that it was practically a new game. Voice overs, better graphics, more items and spells, a brand new nearly undefeatable boss - just not cutting it for me.

Yeah, alot of people would (sadly) buy this game to get a more updated Tifa and Yuffie... but I'd rather get a brand new game.

The only remake I'd see myself buying would be a modern-fied version of Suikoden 1 or 2... but even then... it would have to be some really nice and changed materials.
