Well, while LoL was definately not the pinnacle of PSone rpgs, when you consider the way the story opened, the main character being 13 isn't too far fetched. In the outset, it implies that his more or less coming of age ceremony was just around the corner. His first hunt. May I remind you that in the middle ages children that age went off to war all the time.
He was also shall we say "enhanced" by his Ra-Seru. I'm assuming this gave him as a thirteen year old boy some greater strength, and the voice at least could provide some guidence.
While I typically write my stories about people in their late 20s and early 30s, that doesn't mean that you should stop playing a game just because of a single line of dialogue. If his age bugs you so much it would ruin an otherwise enjoyable game for you, then maybe you have some growing up to do yourself. That's awfully fickle don't you think?
Also, I feel bad for forgetting to mention PE2 in my list of favorites back there, but I sometimes forget it was technically an RPG. Same with Brave Fencer Musashi
And rexxz, honestly, I think sales are the ONLY indication we can have that isn't based on someones arbitrary point value based opinion. Seriously, if everyone but you bought the game and liked it, then either you assume that everyone else is crazed which seems like something you would do, or swallow your pride and admit it must be good, but that somehow you just didn't see it.
It's just like me and Halo - sometimes I think everyone in the world must be crazy to be obsessed with what I find to be a horrifyingly mediocre game with a bland multiplayer that brings absolutely nothing to the table but griefing with no skill one hit kills. I'll take UT2K4 or FEAR multiplayer any day, thanks. But I have to concede that Halo must somehow be a good game, and that for some reason I'm just missing the point.
