What games are you currently playing?

Awesome Bro

How long is the game exactly, and is the free roam like PROPER free roam, do you HAVE to follow the main story, are there sidequests/missions or anything, or is the story pretty much linear ?

im currently re-playing mirror's edge for the third time, this time on hard
game's really fun.. though it doesn't really satisfy, and is quite short.
luckily they've announced a mirror's edge 2 and maybe even 3, so i hope those are longer/better
also some time trials were released at the start of this year
i got a weird *coughpirated* version though, so those don't work like they should - but im still able to play those

anyway, once this week is over, I'm going to start on borderlands, with a couple of mates.
should be fun

There's no official set number on length yet. Bioware is stating that it is 60-80 hours if you are completing all of the origins and just following the main quest. A Russian interviewer showed his in game counter and he had completed 3% of the game in 2 hours and 40 minutes while playing the Human Noble Origin. It is definitely over 10 hours per Origin. The time it takes to complete the game fluctuates apparently by which version you have. Reviewers have stated that the computer version has a higher difficulty, as it seems that Bioware had to sacrifice some difficulty for the console versions in order to get a proper control scheme.

There are parts when the game is linear. The origin story portion at the beginning is linear. After that, the game is relatively open. After the origin story, you can go anywhere you please, except the final area of course. Certain events will not occur until you complete events that occur before it. Higher end enemies will appear once they establish themselves in the story, so their is no fear of being raped by a giant monster for exploring. Rather than travel town to town on a giant map, Bioware used an auto teleport system via a map menu with locations set on it. You choose the location and the game teleports you there. Just look at Neverwinter Nights 2 if you want to see what that looks like. In game events may occur that disrupt your traveling, causing you to walk to the location. There are loads of optional side quests. Some are *actual* side quests that have absolutely nothing to do with the main quest, while others have some ties.

While the origins story is fairly linear in terms of execution, the results are not. What occurs isn't always linear either. Choices you make during the origin story will haunt you and determine how some NPCs react to you. What occurs during some portions of the origin story is determined through your choices. While it isn't a sandbox RPG, it isn't linear in the traditional sense at all.

The game never ends unless you want it to. People will be expanding the main story through player made modules, and Bioware will be too. Also, people can make their own games with the developer grade toolkit, so there will be way more than enough to do with Dragon Age.

@psi: really? oh wow it's longer than i thought. we're really taking our time and fucking around with the enemies and shit though.

well soph and i have been playing for atleast a good 12, 16 hours now, and apparently we still have a lot left to get through. so it's a lot, esp for a shooter (yes it has rpg elements but trust me it's a shooter).

there's not really much of a main story to speak of. i mean once in a while you'll do a quest and this chick pops onto your screen and tells you something about some mysterious Vault, but otherwise it's a mission like any other. There are tons and tons and tons of missions, you can spend all day long on a single town, busting out all the quests and missions. Some of them are kind of repeats, usually it's
a.) Kill x (usu: boss)
b.) Collect x number of y things in a certain area
c.) Clean out all the assholes from a colony area
d.) Kill x number of y things/people
e.) Go there and talk to that guy

Rinse, repeat. But believe me when i tell you that none of this shit matters, the enemies are fucking crazy, the weapons are cool, the controls are tight (I HATE FPSs on consoles and I still enjoy the hell out of it), and just when it starts getting repetitive you go to an all new place with even crazier enemies and weapons.

Plus it is just so fun playing it co-op. You can build your own little strategies for taking down a group of enemies and trade shit, it's the most fun I've had on a game in a long time.

edit: oh wait you're talking about another game >__>
lol @ my not looking at the previous page

Uhh no, in the quote you've done, I'm actually talking about Borderlands, maybe I didn't make it clear, but fuck it...

Also at;

a.) Kill x (usu: boss)
b.) Collect x number of y things in a certain area
c.) Clean out all the assholes from a colony area
d.) Kill x number of y things/people
e.) Go there and talk to that guy

So it's like any other mission/quest on any other game, pretty much the same thing...

playing through bioshock on hard without vita-chambers and saving all little sisters/ collecting all audio diaries. Im trying to get the last achievements for it.

Well, I was playing Shin Megami Tensei Persona 4, until I slipped up and watched the ending on youtube. Laff. I suggest ALL RPG lovers to play that game, especially if it's a good story you're looking for. Probably one of my favorites now.

High Hopes

Awesome Bro

I love you piratenga. Persona 4 was a stellar RPG, and my favorite RPG on the Playstation 2. It actually allowed some player freedom with your character's mannerisms, which most console RPGs don't feature.

Oh, forsure. It's basically everything you would ever want in an RPG game and more. Honestly, it's right up there with Final Fantasy on my list. I recently bought Persona 3 as well, but I haven't got around to playing that one.

G I Joe Game. Previously game I played. I'm hoping to buy another game soon. GI Joe for me, is not a buyable game to me, since I'll properly complete in a couple of weeks.

It takes you a couple of weeks to complete a game based off a film ?

... Aren't they usually like, 3-4 hours long...

What game am I currently playing ?

... BORDERLANDS !!!!!!

But eww it's in the new case with the new PS3 logo and looks so fucking odd next to my Spidey games, bastards, and is it just my Borderlands case that isn't using the PS3 Bluray CASES, I mean, the games have the Bluray logo on the left and say Playstation 3 on the right, this just has the Bluray logo on the right and nothing else o.O

Thank got I've got a beautiful sleve to cover it up (Collectors Edition, HAH), although that's got the new PS3 logo on too !

I CAN'T WIN !!!

Simply put; Yes.

I mean, it isn't very strong in the story department, but you'll be doing so many sidequests and shooting the fuck out of midget bandit psychos (... Literally), it makes you completely ignore the story and focus on the gameplay.

Basically, in my opinion, and although they're in two different genres (Well, same crossbreed...), this is what Fallout 3 should've been like.

yeah IMO it's a lot more boring when you're going stag to the party

if borderlands had the story and character immersion of fallout3 it'd be a gamm for the ages.
