Also MF, you should support your viewpoint with reasons. Reasons = good, unlike raisins (no offense to you idiots who enjoy raisins [see if I say no offense then it doesn't mean an insult]). In fact, I'm seeing a lot of semi-useless posts in this thread. Come on people, you need reasons (not raisins) to support your point of view. You shouldn't just say 'I'm a fanboy' because that's basically stating 'I'm an idiot' and I'd like to think of you all as intelligent people.
Raison is French for reason, so they are the same thing.

And I like DS because I prefer the games. 'Nuff said.

I love the DS...but the PSP has some nice titles for it. Luckily I own both.

And before my wife upgraded the firmware on the PSP, I also used it for homebrew and emulation :P

So you play games based on their ESRB rating?

Considering most members here are between the ages of 13-18, they probably don't have the money...

I don't know, these days kids that age get a lot of money to waste from mommy and daddy.

some people don't find a game where you touch a giant pink puffball visually appealing or satisfactory.

True, and it's a shame, because people who judge games like that are missing out on a lot of fun, which to me is the most important part of a game (a reason I'm not a big RPG fan and like platformers more).

unfortunately the entertainment in games these days seems to be downplayed for flash and "cool" factor. big explosions seem to draw a larger crowd than meaningful gameplay.

I bought the PSP midnight the day it came out. Was not worth hte money I shelled out for it.
I would rather a DS, cuz it has games I enjoy
I ended up selling it and buying a Gamecube for the kids I work with at my job.

Nice way to put words into someones mouth. I don't find platformers fun at all; but I find war games fun. Does that make me a corporate whore and unfun? Some people, me for example, despise platformers. Stop saying people are missing out of a lot of fun because you think they are.

Wow, way to skew what he said to completely mean that he hates everyone that doesn't like platformers. All he was saying was that some people simply look for things that are 'edgy' and avoid some of the funner things, like Kirby games. But wait you're too hyped up on justifying your choice in games that you felt this needed to apply directly to you, sorry. I'm sure he probably was talking exactly about people who prefer war games.

yea what andy said.

case in point: Prince of Persia: Sands of Time vs. Prince of Persia: Warrior Within.

Warrior Within improved on many factors from Sands of Time but completely removed SoT's brilliant architecture design and puzzles for action and bad heavy metal.

because, you know, bad electric guitar riffs existed in the 10th century!!

And the narration in SoT was a very cool feature.

The only people who really win in this, are the consumer. I doubt the ds would have been as good as it is if it didnt have the psp to fight against.

Yes, but this is less about incentive.

Nintendo were taking their sweet time introducing small changes, such as the sp, or the retro, trying to get as much as possible out of it. Sony came along and forced them to release something good, or lose their place in the market.

Sony forced nothing head on. But it was due to the fact that they would steal the market that gave Nintendo the incentive to release new products. Anyway, we're not here to debate about incentives and whatever...I prefer the DS...the PSP is just a gimmick to me...TO ME. Don't jump down my throat for saying that...

oh wow

i'll never forget when the DS was announced 2 years ago. nintendo's statement about the system was essentially

"LOL 2 SCREENS MOST REVOLUTIONARY HANDHELD EVAR!!!11"

and what came of it? a new mario kart, a bad metroid prime, advance wars with fuzzier graphics, and an animal crossing. ANIMAL CROSSING.

yea, that got me preordering quick (sarcasm)

ironically, all the big budget titles were supposed to be launch titles (except for metroid hunters which was supposed to come out APRIL 5 2005). the only 1st party launch title was mario 64 DS. we didn't get anything until 9 months later with wario ware and advance wars.

as much as i love nintendo, they're horrible at following through with promises. n64 had like... 4 launch games and only one of them was really worth the $60 cartridge. the n64 was pretty much empty until a year later. gamecube also had the exact same problem of offering nothing except "lol mario game" until 2 years into it's life when metroid prime and wind waker came out.

I wonder what Nintedo's going to do with their next handheld. 3 screens? 2 microphones? The touch screen is fun, but it is pretty gimmicky.

I think over time DSs will be used as specialized controllers for specific Wii games or something (kind of like the GBA could be used with the Cube). Following that, 4 or 5 more variations to DS, then something new. Prolly not groundbreaking, prolly the same double screen but with better graphics and whatnot.

Nintendo tried to nail home the fact that the DS wasn't replacing the GBA.

I lolled hard when they said that.

Despite the fact we're in the next generation of games, we haven't heard anything about NEW GAMEBOY yet and it's been about 7 years since GBA...

I'm still lolling.
