I built an engine from start using slick (old library using lwjgl), typical 2d tile system. Its a pet project to build when i am really bored, its no going to see the light of day because unity is soo much more efficient and useful, i use it mainly for learning.
im gonna add some networking to it this week, see how it goes.
 
I did something similar a while ago, but then I realised libGDX does everything and is crossplatform. I cried and then picked that up and used that.

I was never fond of using gradle and the whole bunch, and but that time the project wasnt worth it to make the switch to libgdx, either..

I'm designing a card game that's going to be implemented in the project I'm working on. In order to test to see if the game is balanced properly I'm going to have them made and play with friends and family irl. I had my younger brother draw the prototype cards for me and now I have to write in the stats, flavor text, and effects of 106 different cards. I've said this in the pwoym thread but still... I did not think this through :'(

I haven't ever touched Gradle, they have a jar that builds the project for you which downloads some stuff using Gradle but thats only to construct the project, you never actually have to come into contact with it.

alright so I've designed all of the spell cards that are gonna be in the game. Now I'm working on the hard part; 87 creatures and their stats and abilities. How do you figure out which stats to give each creature? Is there some sort of algorithm I should know about? Making a card game is not nearly as easy as I thought it'd be. :huh:

I used to make card games as a kid because i couldnt afford magic cards. I can lend you a hand, wanna skype tomorrow or something?

also, ive downloaded libgdx and started to port my engine...here we go

Yo that's super dope! Thanks for the offer, but after pulling my hair out for a few hours I actually figured it out. What I needed was a permutation of the numbers. I found a generator for that and then I found another generator that turned them into the proper combinations I needed. That I took that and entered into random.org and took the first 87 numbers. Now all I need to do is insert those combinations on each of the cards and boom. I can get to printing for test playing.

I somehow found a way to power through and input all necessary information on each of the 106 alpha cards! :toot: now I need to scrounge up the $140usd it's gonna cost to have them printed. Until then I'm fine tuning the rules and writing them down for everyone (the people I'm playtesting with) to see so they don't think I'm making up rules on the fly or cheating. I've also written 3 pages of story. Yay progress! :toot:

Ordered the cards and they came in the mail today. I played one game with my girlfriend (who doesn't know dick about playing TCG's) and we came across a game design flaw that's easily fixable, but I'd have to redesign the entire look of the cards which is going to be a pain in the balls (also expensive). Waiting until I can link up with friends that play or have played TCG's to do real testing.

Right now I'm continuing on writing the story and I've just written about a page. I figure if I write at least 3 pages a week then the story should be finished front to back in no more than a month.

Progress. Progress. Progress.

Ha thanks, buddy! I'm actually planning on putting it in an rpg I'm working on. I've always been a fan of card games as mini-games like what final fantasy and witcher 3 did. I had them printed to test for balancing and playability.

Furthering the story; I'm trying figure out a way for the main character and some strangers in a near-by cell can bust out of jail. so far they've just asked for the main characters help, but I'm not exactly sure what their plan for breaking out is and how the main character would be able to help lol.

Side note: Main Characters name is Kitran.
 
Making NPCs for Ghost Shards. At this stage I'm not TOO concerned if they're "perfect", because we can always change/fix them later. We've been in development hell long enough lol.

Are the strangers in the same cell? If so one of them could fake a death, when the guards come in to inspect, they leap up and attack them, take their keys, unlock the player's cell and ask him/her/it to help them with the escape? Maybe they need more muscle to fight off the rest of the guards or something?

Did they use a bottle of ketchup while prone? Are they called David?
