It might be that I'm use to the font, because it's my default font for my IM. I could understand a foreigner not being able to read it accurate and efficiently. Maybe it is I who is high.

Heh, it's really too bad there's no way to have an honest test where we all had to read several pages written in that font and one written in a font like Arial and get an accurate time. I think everyone might be a bit surprised.

It's why I detest the Times New Roman font so much; it's meant to get a lot of text in a small space, if you have it in large paragraphs on a website there's no question that it's harder to read than something more spaced and cleaner. It's worth a few minutes of your time to read up a bit on fonts and their use on the web, just like with any "art" (pictures after all) there is a lot to consider when you're picking a font to allow for easy reading of a lot of text.

It IS true that some will have less trouble reading certain fonts than others, but that font type has a lot inconsistencies that make it unsuitable for long-term reading; check the c's and l's next to each other... same height. Usually only a lower-case i would be so similar to a c in size; yet the c dominates in size over that lower-case l.

It certainly does have personality that fits the game; but is that personality worth the extra effort and long-term tiring effects it'll cause people? That's a tough decision and it's based on your audience.

I imagine Arc will stay with that font since it fits the outrageous theme of his game quite well. In CA I used a very soft window-skin for text that was square and had no pixelated edges, then pulled the shadow in to help just barely accentuate the simple font I was using; I pulled all the elements together to make a single clean window.

In Arc's case, the zany humor and constantly shifting face-sets, along with the message box's content and color scheme, would probably suffer a lot if given another sans-serif styled font.

Well, how many games will bombard the player with huge blocks of text a time? Not any game I'd want to play personally (Games should subscribe to the 'Show, Don't Tell' adage imo). For a max of three-four lines every time a message box pops up, I do not see the font really becoming a problem.

Also, the solution to the Times New Roman problem is Georgia. It's a very nice and readable Serif font for the computer.[/FONT]

3 pages about a font? Thats pretty much a non-issue, it looks well enough to read.
Also, any other font would not match the faceset next to it.

Wow, aren't I just the popular one recently. The font I'm using was chosen after a lot of thought, and while it's possible I may choose another one down the road, I'm content with the one I have. If you have trouble reading it, I'm sorry - but the characters are all clearly and distinctly formed. Really, you should have no trouble reading it at all unless you are instinctively needlessly nitpicky.

Consider the following, our dev group logo:

That should be immediately recognizable as "Lotek" to you. If it's not, then you have some sort of cognitive disconnect happening. Even though the 'T' is upside-down, some people don't even notice it is until I point it out to them.

My point in saying this is simple - The majority of readers will have absolutely no problem reading the text, and the font is certainly not unreadable in any sense. It is clearly shaped and the contrast is good. Perhaps you will get used to it?

Besides, 75% of the dialogue in Canadian Knights is voiced over. That's what's taking the demo so long. You won't have to read it!

Finally, I find it interesting that there was only one comment that remarked on anything but the font :P

One of romantic scenes from my project:

I must say that does a great job conveying a romantic mood. May I ask though, what are they chars standing on? I can't quite tell if it is a lake or solid land of some form o.O (due to the effect). Also, what tileset is that? Perhaps it's just the filters/effects that have been applied, but it looks better than the standard rtp.

@neo rpgmaniak: Pretty much does what it' s supposed to in conveying a romantic feeling, but the white they're on kinda' throws me off a bit. Looks cool tho'...

From the look of it, they're standing on a shallow body of water, hence the reflected moonlight, and half their bodies are translucent.

@ neo: I don't know how to explain it but the horizon looks a bit weird that way with water being cut off. Anyway after such a great post of scenery I think we need a break from quality:

London. 1990s. I know it's pretty retarded lol. And the guy in the middle is a scientologist.

@ dreamwind: i like the Ronan guy...

but some of the battlers have a little white edge of a pixel or so around them, that can easily be taken off with a photo editing program, like gimp, or photoshop... :)

London? How is any of that London? School uniforms and guy with weird ass clothing looks more like Japan to me.

PS: If it was London, you'd be fighting a skin head in the May Day riots with a pool cue.

Dreamwind: You know that Lisa and Mary are the actual name for the characters portrayed by those battles in theiur game of origign... right? (Btw, those come from Persona/Shin Megami Tensei games if anyone wonders)

Anyway, I like the feel to it :)

@ Silent Alarm: Because they're Junior Year Abroad students. And duh, the battlers are from a japanese rpg.

@ Clest: Yes, it's actually an homeage to them. This Mary though has a different battler but is meant to be based on the original Mary.

EDIT: I was being mean.

Sorry for being pedantic, but that looks maginificantly like not London. Irrelevent, maybe, but I do live here so :nya:

You make up for it by fighting a scientologist. HA.

@neo rpgomaniak
That screen is very lovely, but I do agree with whoever was talking about perspective. The water could do with stretching a little further up the screen, and the characters being lower down. If the horizon was there, they would be much smaller, I think, which is why it looks a little strange. It's beautiful though ^_^
