Lose the tree fog. There isn't any trees around the houses on the larger map, that sort of fog only really works for a dense forest.
The variation on the houses is fine IMO though the surrounding area is a little boring. When designing towns, try and add some sort of features, like many real places have. A particular focal fountain, some gardens, a statue of the founder, a central pond.
In grassy type areas, it's best to actually add patches and clusters of actual grass, there are auotiles about for it. Try and make the pathing to the houses a little more clear. If the villagers would have taken the time to pave some of it, they would have at least done it logically.
I can see on your larger image that a house has one shrub out side of it, this doesn't lok too natural as plants usually tend to grow near other plants and that's the only shrub in that view of the map.
The next step it to add details without just clicking randomly or making the map cluttered, Give the map some PERSONALITY!
