What is the feel you guys get from this map?

I think its cute Strawberrii. Very Cozy and Homy

@Xilef: Looks like fun. :eek:

Apologies for the absence, you guys aren't the only one's feeling it. But I'll start posting updates here a little more if I can remember to.

So here's a cutscene I made with some picture events, check it. :D

I'll link some gameplay Vids later when I have a chance to update them, the ones on my youtube currently are outdated beyond all hell. In consolation, take this.

I really like it Strawberriii. If I was being picky though, I don't like the windows, but that is RPG Maker's fault. On the left hand house they are fine: the edges match up with the wood, so it looks like some of the planks have just been cut shorter to fit the windows in. On the other two they don't line up and there is no damage seen to the planks so that they look like they are hovering above the woodwork.

Not for anything in particular. I just felt like mapping. I might work on some maps tonight, get good at it so that I can confidently work on a game.

The cave is great, but I want to set that house on fire...
Thank you. I spent quite a bit of time on the cave.
I get what you mean about the house. What do you think is bad. (Try not to say all of it...)

The shape, how many houses do you know with walls like that? I mean, if there was a proper diagonal wall tile, then fair do's, but constant blocks? That looks disgusting.

That's true. However there is no diagonal block, otherwise I would gladly use it, but it would make adding walls hard too...
I dunno.

Play to the strengths of what you have available, hide the drawbacks... you're putting the drawbacks on display here ;)
Avoid trying to do design something that isn't really supported (or do something about it, so it is)

Plus for some reason, I instantly thought the house and cave has very similar area designs...

Right, well basically, start with a rectangle, y'know, as most rooms are, then work with that, extend a portion for the doorway if you like, you could even bend it like an L shape if you want to add extra stuff in there, like the bed and whatever, but never do the weird diagonal thing you've got going on now... try to make it seem like it's taking the shape of a house/room, or something along those lines anyway...

Here's one I whipped up just now

It took about 5-10 minutes to do (I was watching a video in another window too, lol)

Maybe it'll help give you an idea on how to make your interiors, since they're generally squared like that anyways... but yeah, maybe it'll help, maybe it won't, just throwing it out there for you.

That's pretty decent and nice piece you made, but it would be better if apply some lighting in there. You know you can add shadows
or put some lights coming out from the window.

Yeah I could've used the light floor tile, it was just a quick example
... And I've just realised I used the bookcase twice lol, oh well, the map still gets my point across I think

Mmmkay. I'll work more towards that sorta design.

Yeah, that's true. I'm not great at houses xD
And yeah, I thought the same about the designs too.. :L

Meh, pretty much the same as yours xD
Basic on person living eh?
Edit: Fuck it. Added the axe. Removed the black door frames.
Edit Edit: Stop editing this now hiccup. It's done -___-

Pretty much most houses made with that tileset would look the same (so you're mapping good really), what breaks it down however is that the tileset itself is shit. To make different houses there need to be different carpets, damaged planks maybe, scuff marks, different curtains, different scenery through the windows, etc. Basically, furniture and furnishings.

It might not suit the map you have in mind, but breaking up the cliffs with some extra layers can help give a more natural look (although again much of the problem is the tilesets we use with straight cliffs).

(Not putting this forward as a better map, just showing an example of what I mean in the top-left):
