Looks great mike, especially the wizard! I'm not awfully familiar with things these days - is that battle system custom? It looks cool either way, it's way more readable than most and gets the balance of space to text right.

Uncle despot: The fact the left hand border is narrower than the base border is tall bothers me but I'm a perfectionist. (The gap between the text and the walls I mean) but that's just me.

What happens if the NPC is too far to one side of the screen for the comic prompt - does it still work?

@Mikepjr I think that your screens look really nice. The art style looks really good, and I thought they looked like a more detailed version of a classic Final Fantasy game, particularly on the battle screens.

Please don't take Despain's comment the wrong way. He was just jokingly trying to point out that it isn't a good idea to say "no negative comments, please". When you post your work, you have to expect to get at least some negative comments, or you can't really expect to get any really good criticism. Keep up the good work!
 
That actually looks really nice, and the RTP stuff blends in very well with the custom stuff. Nice work! The message box is bugging me, though. I think the transparency looks a little weird on top of pixel art, and the font might be a bit too anti-aliased.

yeah that's fine. the text is a photoshop mockup thrown over the map and the messages haven't been scripted yet (mariosuperstar's on the project now and he's a total fucking badass). it was the closest thing i had to an actual screenshot and but don't like having the first post on a page not include a graphic

the padding you mean?

that's because the text is centered vertically. so it should look nice when there's only one line of text etc.

Actually some sprites are from an actual game.. i wanted to have totally un-copied graphics, like.. my own graphics through and through, but it's not easy doing all this stuff on my own, i do what i can.

The battle system is actually Atoa's with a LOT of heavily modded stuff.

I only meant.. don't say it harshly.. like "it looks like shit!".. i just mean't be polite please.
 
Ooh would like to make a slight point that I think would REALLY improve a lot of RTP town maps:

By adding a slight bit of shadow and bringing the top of the brick up slightly, it gives the impression that the floor is actually textured and not just a 2D piece.

I know it's a tiny detail, but if every detail is like this, then it all adds up, and it's one of the things that makes the RTP look flat.
 
When you say use punctuation, are you referring to that one shot where it ends without a punctuation?
If so, their is not one cause he is not done talking, it was only the first part of stuff he was saying... i was more or less showing off the map it's self.

And i realize Calimer was not capitalized, i just have not fixed it yet, my main focus was on see what people thought of the tiles and such..
 
you forget to capitalize your "i"'s

in conversation.png you have a big runon—one of those commas should be a period.

and in someoldbread.png you need some kind of punctuation after the first sentence.

Some of it is still early stages though, i keep redoing graphics and messing with scripts so much it's hard to get things REALLY going..

And the i's not being capped is a personal choice... i never felt it made a lot of sense to cap an i.

it's fine in casual conversation, on forums, letters, etc. but if you want your game to be taken seriously on any level then this grammatical standards are not optional.
 
It's lopoking pretty sweet. Nice lines on the interface, and nice pseudo-perspective on the map itself. Though there are some jaggies on the building in the background.

I'm sure those red dots are leaves because he's using a weather script, I think I've seen 'em before... I don't think it's one of the default weathers anyway
 
That's what it looks like to me as well, like some kinda weather effect, cause the red dots have some shading to them, they are not one flat color of red.
 
I'll solve the mystery once and for all: the red dots are in particle effects from the Modified Advanced Weather Script.
Also, the graphics are done using parallax mapping and a 3D editor.
But I was more interested in what you guys thought of the menus.
