Your map is simply amazing
One thing that looks weird to me is that glitter in the water...
Is it supposed to be reflection of the sunlight?

I'm not a huge fan of the rtp but i like these screen shots of yours man. I've only seen 2 or 3 peeps that can really make these maps shine with some good editing.
Some things i see wrong with this last map are the small waterfall to the top left coming from nowhere, and the one below that seems to be springing over the cliff floor.

For the map above this one, the tree on the top left which hangs over the cliff would look better if you made an edit to the roots, because it's set up to look like it's on the ground all you have to do is have the roots face downward instead, sort of dug into the cliff, then add a little of some type of vegetation in the center of the roots and around.. of coarse if it was a mistake forget i mentioned this XD

Thanks ^^, I did not intend to release the tileset but i may do it in the end.

Thanks. Yes, the map is from a new game, but at the moment, it's just a storyline, and me testing tilesets. I'm not sure what you mean by the waterfall, but I can change the autotile if it doesn't fit.
This is what I was talking about.

Thanks for the comments. This better?

That's a very nice map you've got there!

But you have little mapping error with the tree on the north-western cliffs:

I think you should just move it 1 tile.

I'm aware that there is a tree overhanging in the top left corner, and that there is an error in the shadow of the boat house thing. Other than that, comments?

He already knows Ares ;)

@WalkingAbomination: Thanks very much! I know what you mean about the water seeming to come from no where, but actually, there is a crack in the rock somewhere there. I may need to make a better one though, as it's virtually invisible, and lined up incorrectly. As for where the water underneath, the idea behind it is that there was a crater or something there, and the water from the above waterfall filled it. And I've done an overhanging tree root thing before, but on a different tree sprite. Guess I could do it on that as well.
@Superman Prime: Well, that's an RTP autotile. I could edit it, but I think it fits.
@Ares: Thanks, but as NNolund said, I'm aware of that.

More UI screens. These are all in game but not quite fully functional. I am working out the kinks at the moment, it is all event based so sometimes there are errors I have to find ways to get around.

Tell me what you guys think! I am going for a smooth and simple approach. With a hopefully original system to back it up. Basically everything can be leveled up in my game, but skills can be mixed up from different trees and classes to make hybrids. You will need to start sticking to skills and level them up later on however. Things start to get tougher. More on the game when I am ready for a project topic.

:x I didn't say anything...

@mark1707: Wow that map looks really nice! That screen tint really creates a nice atmosphere.

Hey there! After 3 years of keeping things to myself and lurking around, I have a few screen shots of the game I am working on, and its called "Killjoy" which I started not so long ago.

This here happens to be what it looks like on the editor. Yes, I think it looks like crap too...
68eo28.png

But with the proper lighting effects, it does not look like crap, but something decent compared to most of the maps I have seen on this thread. After studying 3D games, and somewhat experience with 3D modeling (looking at Sega's Sonic unleashed for the 360), I learned that lighting gives the maps the feeling and atmosphere. This was used for the game "Left 4 Dead", as they emphasized darkness, which I attempted to replicate in a 2D game. The result would be this:

These maps do need a lot of work in my opinion, but this is what I have so far as in mapping. Here are some other screen shots of the same first level....

This is just a title card, when you first enter the level.

Second part of the title card, so the Chapter is really called, Chapter One: I have the Right 2 Kill Zombies. The Chapters names are based and a satire on popular horror games. Chapter names include, Paul's house of the dead, Neighbors with Evil, and so on. And yes, I do play left 4 dead wayyyy to much.

Yea, you probably didn't want the extra long explanations, but I for some reason just wanted to explain myself just a bit. Please, criticize if you must, ANY feedback is very much welcomed as I really need it, as an amateur Rpg Maker.

Mark: While it may be a good map in terns of layout, you are making an obvious mistake. Mapping isnt cramming as much as detail as you can into a map. That makes the map look bad. Try to remove some of the detail. Also, your pallete is off when it comes to mapping. A pallette is what kind of scenery you have have. You have too many different kinds of scenery. Try to tone that down. Theres no need for a mangrove tree because that does not match the overall map. It sticks out. This includes other things as well. :)

dapaul: The lightefefects may help, but its still a bad map overall. There is a lot of clashing between things. Some things are just too 2-d such as the traffic light. The bushes stilck out too. Custom lighting effects and fog shouldnt replace good mapping, they should enhance good mapping. Many people seem to make the mistake that they can cover up a bad map with one of these.

I don't think Marks map is really all that cluttered. I think it's pretty good. There are perhaps a few misplaced/unnecessary objects but nothing that spoils it. The main thing is there is a visible route between A and B.

The only thing I noticed is that writing your name on each screenshot you post is a bit pretentious! :P

thanks becolioman for your comment, I should perhaps go to the map improvement thread, as it is very evident that I need it.
After looking at all these maps, I notice there is so much detail but mine has too much simplicity. I still need to improve and create some or find some custom tilesets to match the style I really needed. Thanks for the comments, they are very much welcomed. Oh and I'm sorry, I know this isn't a mapping thread. My bad.

Other than that, please, I need it. Give your honest opinion.

And what do you mean give you a good example. Its not the tileset thats the problem, its you. You dont have to use every tile from the tileset. :)

Get rid of the tall bushes and mangove trees.

Calibre: your right, there is a point A-B, but some areas to me are cluttered such as the axe and log area and the area around the small cliff. :)

@dapaulwall92
why is it that when Zombies go wild, cars go exploding?
If you're going for a horror-game, don't use so much flowers and cute sprites, etc. The zombies look fine, but the cars and the traffic light resemble toys.
Now, about mapping: avoid straight lines of trees, houses, flowers, etc. Try to create more interesting shapes.

In the universe of zombie apocalypse, well mine at least, the numbers for car crashes just went up by 29%.
Its not exactly a horror game, well a legit horror game, in fact a parody, but thats no excuse for the cute flowers and sprites, and etc. I'll remove it and replace it with something somewhat sinister.
Now that you mentioned it, no map city is completely symmetrical, well a normal place at least, so I will try to make my maps a little bit more lively and not so errr symmetrical.

Thanks Silver Wind, you guys pointed out so many things that I was completely unaware of.

@dapaulwall92:
Your game reminds me "Zombie ate my Neighbourhood" from SNES(or other old system, I don't remember exactly which one)
I like zombie sprites and "I have RIGHT 2 KILL zombies" title.
I can make a few music tracks. Just PM me if You want.

I think that if the game is somewhat a parody of horror games, then zombies and flowers together are a great idea.
Here's a tileset I begun working last night, it's still a WIP, it was (very) inspired by final fantasy 6, I don't know if I'll make a game oput of it, for now I'm just enjoying making the tileset.
