If you wanna work that simple, I HIGHLY suggest you learn about the different ways to create contrast.
Right now you do a lot of things wrong, so everything smooshes together. One thing that works is that the boxes have horizontal lines. This Is my main concern. Find a way that brings the wall and floor apart. Right now they both use vertical lines. Same with the shelves.
Desaturate the walls and/or make them darker. There's TONS you can do, thats just an example.
Main thing, find ways to separate your elements.

Link to a new vid! I REALLY need a nice recording program. Any tips/suggestions?

@black
I'll try to get some more detail in there but it's kind of hard considering that I'm only allowed 5 colors per sprite(3 without outlines). A black border, an Outline(besides the black border), a shadow, a filler, and a highlight. Then again..I've basically screwed up the Cel-Shading idea so bad already that I could basically do whatever I wanted with it, by the time I'm done tweaking I'm gonna end up inventing a new form of shading xD
I'll try to round things off a bit more..(though I think the square-ness feeling is mostly because of the spirally square texture on the wood in the background, so I'll change that first and see if it helps)
Annd those aren't shelves, they're more like platforms sticking out of the wall, being held up by supports. But I guess I'd better change em anyways if it's hard to distinguish them.
Thanks bunches ^_^

@kicks
Will do! I actually noticed this but wasn't sure if it was just be or what.. so thanks! ^_^

I'll put up an updated one soon!

@thios: I like the font too. Too bad you didn't make those graphics yourself. I was going to praise you to the heavens for that lol. Still, I'm wondering, where on zany's website did you get the material for the first and second screenshot? Like, I've checked out zany's tileset stuff before and have never seen those curved pillar things from shot 1, and the big.. THING.. floor from shot 2.
Well, the tileset (panorama) on shot 2 is made by myself. http://www.sxc.hu/index.phtml The picture, events, panorama en fog to. The light events (shot 1, 2 and 4) are modified in Photoshop.

@Kicks: Hey, I just remembered that 2 years ago you were making sprites for me, for the character Melrose! ^^ The screenshots I've been posting is still of that same game! ^^

It doesn't use your sprites, of course, as you only got like, one animation for one character done. :3 (Attack animation.) I see your style has improved a lot since then, though! It's very smooth now.

@Dopy: Still nice though. :] BTW, the shading and perspective on the tank in shot 1 is very very very off. You look 3/4 birdsview on everything, except the tank. Which is seen straight from above. You can fix this by adding a small "side" to the bottom, and changing shading around a bit.

LOL you are right I dont even notice really.. That shows my game making skills -.-

Anyway I ripped the tank and chopper from a Xp game =X

The tileset's fairly small atm so the map's a bit bland, it's still a WIP, but I wanted some feedback on the style.

(I'm aware that the characters are floating, it's a script issue which I'll fix soon)

you need th fade the bacground significantly. right now it looks no different than the foreground and could cause a lot of confusion. needs to be significantly more readable.

@TM:  That map is AMAZING.  Perfect blend of creepy, unknown, and fantastic.

@The Panda:  I personally like the vertical better because it's better looking, but you should make the walls horizontal.  More realistic and warehouse-like.  You have to work on more details in the map too. (Examples: cracks on wall? water leak on ceiling? anything to make it look less boring)

Alrighty, horizontal it is then! I'mma work on details now(those were just the basics of it, I wanted to get those down before I moved on to the rest). I dunno about cracks in the walls since ya know..it's a pirate ship..and then they'd sink...but I'll come up with something! Any suggestions? I can't seem to find any nice pics of pirate ship interiors so I'm not sure of what to add... ^_^

Heh, if it's a pirate ship then the wall is a bit too high.  On ships there are still cracks, mold, dirt, rats, bugs, etc.  There won't big really big cracks though.  Also there'd be pillars and such in the ship, and a bunch of rooms so doors.  Treasure chests... etc.

Ever watch pirates of the carribean?  If not, watch it and learn the way of the pirate.

Panda - Horizontal, and lower the wall like InconsiderateBlack said. Try get the basics covered, then add the detailed bits as Inconsiderate said!
