Panda...
The idea was that you'd use the techniques to solve your own and future problems. I assumed you wanted a dark atmosphere considering there are torches lighting the way. Even if its a bright colorful game, less intense colors and values still work to your advantage. If you're interested in that, check the spoiler...

Here's a colorful and simple graphics game that came to mind.
As you can see, pattern, color and black outlines are your safest bet.

@Black Shadow...
I agree. It is very nice. You might wanna shop the cursive 'links' (I dunno the real word) together. I also think the main writing should share some of the elements from the logo. Did you design that logo yourself?

No, me and my friend found the logo while searching after pictures that connects with the book. It was really hard to find anything that would be usefull for a title screen that connects to the book.

Playing around with 8-bit stuff a little. This should be the main screen of someone else's Town. Supposed to be cute and just a little bit creepy, in order for a little contrast against the game itself, which will be more subtle and realistic.

Just thought I'd plug this since to date it's the most work I've ever done on a project as opposed to fiddling around with stuff I never use. The panda seems deformed, but that's just because I was dumb enough to make the carpet the same colour. Then again, it's an 8-bit colour scheme -- whatcha gonna do?

I've recently flixed the portion where the carpet cuts off -- it should be the two lines on either side of the center one, not the center line itself.

Some maps from my RMVX project Journey from the West.

Town in the 'sky.'  Edited some passability options to be able to walk on those RTP tops.

I didn't add in windows in the protective walls yet nor cracks anywhere.  Of course there are few events, and no doors or NPCs yet.

EDIT:  Forgot to mention: the style is a mix of western-medieval fantasy.  I don't know how to explain it too well but it doesn't clash much.

Looks pretty cool. I like the big town screenshot, although you could add some more details on the wall and outside the wall(But I assume that the map isn't done yet.)

When it comes to the other 2, I think they are a bit empty outside the villages. I know it shows a wasted land, but you could as some more details to it.

New map by me. A map for a Wind Castle maybe?[Image has been updated]

The layout looks pretty great, but the only thing that really bugs me is the HP/SP numbers. I think the numbers should go over the HP/SP bars. Its position right now dosen't look right in my eyes. But don't put it to close to the rest of the text, or else it will look clustered.

Edited my post with an updated version of the screenshot.

Mukashin ur western towns are nice o_0

Think Im going to use that as inspiritation 4 my western game o_o

Edit:

Here is a sample of San Miguel (the town in my game)

http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w120/DopyG/SanMiguelTowncenter.png[/img]

The right side is still empty because its under contruction.
You proberly wonder why some of the houses are made out of stone (its suposed to be the houses of the mexicans that originally lived in the town). Got some inspitation from mukashins map o_o

Yeah, I've been thinking that the pattern is a little garish. I'll play around with different patterns and see what works. I'm afraid lowering the saturation or picking a colour that blends better with the carpet isn't an option for this particular part of the game, but I assure you that the rest of it'll be more reasonable in terms of resolution and colour.

Atemu: Summon Night with my own customs and edits. Take the middle screen for example. I made the floor, the top wall, the top door, and part of the side walls. There may be some things I'm forgetting too, ah well.

kevin james wearing a fancy hat with a feather in it: Hmm, well what do you suggest then? I haven't changed the font yet, so I'm open to suggestions.
