Yes turning WOULD look bad (like Earthbound), but most of the controlling happens on the highway where you're just changing lanes and going one direction. I plan on allowing use of the vehicles in cities, its just that you get to buy whatever car or motorcycle you want. Which means animating a nice turn in all directions for every car would be a HUGE pain, and I've already taken steps to reduce the amount of animating and I'd like to keep it that way.
Use of vehicles is almost entirely for fun. Like most of the game, vehicles in Beyond the Veil are optional--battles, crafting, mini-games, travel... you basically do whatever you want as you progress the story.
I plan on replacing as much of the RTP as I need, but I enjoy using it as well. It has proven to be a key factor in increasing productivity... like 1000%, no exaggeration.

I just color picked from an image of real asphalt. From that and other paintings I've noticed that asphalt is a dark grey with yellow in it. I think this is why it always looks so warm. Anyways, I made a square of that then did filter>add noise in photoshop. Mission Complete. For the stripes I just did a stripe with 'Overlay' blending. I tried some shadows for the edges and highlights for the center, but it didn't look better or worse and simpler is always better if anything, so...
