A puzzle I'm working on at the moment:

Basically, think Golden Sun's Kolima Forest. You push logs around to get where you need to go. The bags you see are the equivalent of treasure chests. Anyway, the thing that seems the least prominent here in the screenshot, but took the longest to event is the little exclamation point above the character's head. It's animated, and it only shows up when you can perform an action, such as pushing a log. It animates like this:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v610/Arcanum-edge/5b4d11cf.gif[/img]
It was fun, but hard to make. :)

Hey, wow, Arcanum, that screenie looks good. I didn't know you were making a game. Then again ... I've only been around since last August.

@Kumo
:( Unfortunately, I too have no screens as yet, but, I shall soon!

@Clizz: Yeah, I haven't really been too obvious about it. I've posted like 5 screens of it ever, and it doesn't have a project topic. I think I might have revealed it's name once maybe... anyway, as you can probably tell from that, I kinda want to keep it fairly under wraps until there's a demo ready (which unfortunately is probably quite a ways off). Right now I'm working on gameplay and the basic systems of the game, as well as getting all the graphics in place. As soon as all the framework's in place though, I'll be much closer to a demo.

Oh yeah, and whenever you can examine something, like a dresser, or a barrel, this icon:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v610/ ... edge/2.gif[/img]
pops up. :)

@Arcanum
Same here, I'm not posting anything about M vs A till I at least have the Scripts figured out and a presentable demo. Plus, the graphics are going to be some work. Anywho, Good luck!

@Arcanum
  The icon seems to be too small to me :S It should be big enough that you can't help but notice it. One of the reasons it doesn't stand out probably due to its color that tend to blend with the map on the background. Stroking the outline with white color might help :)  Anyway, I think if you add sound effect when it pops up, and if it's animated, then it wouldn't be the problem. So my suggestion is based on seeing the screenshot alone :)

  I've been playing with the bullet patterns for the bosses. These two are my favourites so far :)

Zig zag attack!

Lynk : Behold! Beautiful Flower Shot!

The green ball will bounce when hit the edge of the screen and will disappear after a while. When you get hit by the green ball, not only it deal damage to you, but it also cause bad status effect. For example, in the screenshot, rave disable will preventing you from filling up rave guage in order to use DRD. So watch out!

To me the perspective looks way off.  It makes the cliff look birds eye and the houses in the distance are near enough ground level.  Maybe it's just me.

@hima:
That looks awesome  :thumb: . Can't wait to play it, since I've always been a fan of air shooters. They're a dying breed nowadays.

Here are some more screens (Only 2 new ones though). They're basically just improvements of what I had before. Anyway, here they are:

Remade title screen. To me, there's still something wrong with the planet's edges, but I can't quite figure out what I should do to make it blend in with the atmosphere.

Not much of a difference really, but just thought I'd show you guys what it looks like now anyway. Of course, this isn't gonna actually be the starting map though, since I just placed it there to do a test play run.

An improvement of the first town, now renamed to Palecia, which was its original name by the way.

Hero 2's house. Not much of a difference compared to Hero 1's house, but just thought I'd show it for the heck of it.

EDIT: Remade the title screen. Thanks for the suggestion Atemu.

Hero - Your title screen is off. Your land should be square. JK.
From what I see it's pretty good. (Know nothing about VX expect that it's so square)

Yeah, I know. I'm not good at drawing stuff on the computer, since I prefer to draw them on paper first but since I don't have a scanner, I have to draw it on photoshop.

@Malachi:
You mean to make them glow right? Try looking for a light effects script. Not to sure about what you mean by making them look like they're in the map though.

I did give you one suggestion, I said that it's clear the light emitting from the window would be just as bright but you haven't done any light for that.  Therefore it makes just the single blue lights poke out unnaturally.  If you are going to use lighting you have to get consistency or otherwise you get what people are generally familiar with when it comes to light effects and that's a mess.

I assume you are using a character set for that light?  Or is it using a fog.  If it's using a fog you know I have written a tutorial on that right... in the tutorial section.  That may help.

There is no definite answer though, to me it just looks like an eyesore as it is.  Not terrible but the map doesn't currently "benefit" from including them, and if it doesn't add to the map there is point, right.

EDIT: Looking at it again, that still doesn't seem like you've tried setting the blending to add, then trying different powers of opacity.  At the end of the day lighting isn't a big deal in the scale of things, I wouldn't spend forever fussing over it!

@Arcanum...
Your sprites are sick dude! I love it. However...! Do me a favor. Get up and walk across the room. There was this one time back in a high school art class, I saw this kid doing a drawing. It was of a guy running and his forward extending hand was on the same side as his forward extending leg. I told him that's not how people move. I even walked like how he had drawn it to look silly, but he didn't believe me and said people can walk both ways. He even refused to show me after asking him. So I ask you now. Please get up and walk across the room so you can see that it is in fact the opposite hand that moves forward with the forward moving foot when we walk or run.

@Hima...
It's looking great man. I'm a manic shooter fan myself. From one of the screens, it seems like there are too many colors. It may already be the case in your game, though the screen shot says otherwise, but most shooters save a specific color to a specific pattern or speed, that way patterns aren't as insane. However, a lot goes into making the bullet patterns beautiful as well. Just a thought to keep in mind. Further, I'd recommend saturating up some of those colors a tad bit more or take down a bit of the white that is in the center. This is so the bullets vary much differently than the rest of the targets/sprites on the screen. Helps with intense games like that.
@Malachi...
That map looks pretty swell. I like the closed in feeling. However, I feel that if some of the walls were darker you'd accomplish a lot of things.
1. Create more contrast compared to the roofs so it will just plain look nicer/more interesting.
2. Create a darker feel that would work well with a closed in area like that.
3. Create an overall more realistic and believable atmosphere

@Hero...
I really enjoy that town. I'm sorry I can't give you a better crit--LOL. But I think I really like it because it reminds me so much of two of my most favorite RPG's. Final Fantasy Legend II and Super Ninja Boy. Everyone here should at least play FFLII and see how such a simple game can be so deep and have great deep combat. And it's so old too! Anyways... Nice old RPG feel to it with the tiny houses that are huge on the inside. I just ask that you be wary of it. Make that aesthetic part of your mission, rather than just having it.

Keep pushing everyone!

GAH! Thanks for pointing that out Kicks... I thought something was a little fishy about my sprites, but I couldn't put my finger on what it was. And you just did.
