I think it's the way the shades are, Drifter. Like how it is really bright and really dark at the same time. I don't know, if I had to stare at it a long time, I think it would hurt as well. Too hard of a color or something.

And Deebs, O.O that looks wonderful. Are you making a game with those kinds of graphics? That would be pleasing to see.

InvisibleDrifter: I have a problem with the tree stumps. It doesn't look like the tree has any roots and it's just sitting there. The tree stumps remind me of the default firewood in 001:Grasslands

Other than that it looks great, i especially love the house-walls and door.

Thanks you for the comments guys, i see what you mean about the roots RomanMelnik, i will work on that right now.

I disagree on the grass, i even stared at it for a while and i saw nothing to stood out very much, thanks again guys.

@Green Raven: I still think that bed is wayyyyy too huge, it's like three times the length of the character and three times as wide. Otherwise it looks great, especially the cave walls.

@Deebs: It's very ... smooth, I like it. Very light, I like the "atmosphere" it gives off.

@Invisible Drifter: I really like it, except I'm gonna have to agree with the grass being painful to look at.

I redid all my Cosmetic Lights for this area using the same technique, instead of inventing a new technique every time which is what I was doing before. They should be more accurate:

I like your style prexus but the maps are too black and in the cellings you can barely see anything. Try light it up a little it will still look good :thumb:

@Prexus: Good maps, but... When I play a game, I lean back on my chair - I can only see that map if I have my nose pressed against the screen.

Good. You aren't supposed to be able to see the dark areas without squinting. It's not exactly the brightest and cheeriest place, also, I am using those dark areas to hide things that I don't want the player to easily see or find.

@ prexus: lighting effects ARE a sin, but somehow you make them work very well :\
Hm? How is the use of lighting effect a sin? The act of trying to covering up crappy mapping with them is, but its use overall is no different than creating light sources in a 3D environment.

E.g. (Just examples, please don't comment on the actual screenshots :p):
I'd say that the one with the cosmetic fog is a definite relative improvement, as a poll I did on a RPG forum suggested. And if it is, and one is willing to do the work for it, why not?

@Prexus:
Personally I'm okay with how dark it is for the atmosphere, but just so you know that there will most likely be a lot of complaints about it being too dark. Back then I had a similar but slightly brighter darkness for night scenarios for the atmosphere, but eventually I brightened it up due to the continuous suggestions to do so.

For some silly reason I decided to try stemix for a game I'm fiddling with... this, so far, is the result:

And yes, I know that two of the trees are just remakes of the original RTP trees. I like their shape. I'm also aware that the ground is very, very plain.

Also realize there's a mapping error or two on there, but it's just an example, not an actual map...

Oh sweet jesus. I cannot believe you quoted stemix, it makes my original art of the style seem ancient!

Is that all photoshop work?

Heheh, I actually do an interior fog for every single one of my interior maps (excluding some early basements), cut scene or not. :> About 70 interior lighting fogs so far and it's only taking around a total of 2mb of extra space.

some screens from the tilesets I'm working on.
btw my game is going to be an abs, some sceenies of the battle system will come soon.

I love these screen shots. I actually think the minimal shading works with the style TBH, I don't think its something you should worry too much about. i especially like the grass. Much luv to original tilesets ;)

Kaizer: Man your work always looks fantastic, and it makes me want to work harder on my own tilesets, i really like the house roof and the grass.

Gr: Great work bud, i like the look of it all, only thing i think needs much work is the trees, imo they bring the look of the map down.

Hey peeps, here's another look at that Facile tileset i've been working on, i have made some changes to the tree (wanted a more simple look) and have created my cliff, the cliff is about 95% done, i had an idea a while back to start with a simple cliff and the create addons for it so that's what i'm going to be doing, i have also cut down on the roof saturation as well as other things, still screwing with color though.

And don't look at the pots their hideous XD, i will remake that as well as the window.
Edit: Forgot to add, i also gave the roof a softer look by taking off some dark pixels here and there.

Hey drifter nice work. Colors can be a bitch. When I see my tilesets on my computer they look fine but on others the colors are way different. namely on Macs. They look fine in photoshop though.. it gets on my nerves too because then I never really know what the colors look like -_-

Heh never really thought about that, i will still make changes if someone notices something i didn't but i wont change what i believe looks correct though, and maybe after i'm done with the town tileset i can add a separate color of the grass and upload that as an extra in case peeps don't like the original look, well lets see if i keep this up now haha.
