The Screenshot Thread

Malick that makes absolutely no sense. You talk as if castles have to be symmetrical. I think that would be strictly up to the tastes of the architect.

@Kiera
Impressive as always, yet something bothers me. It's nothing bit but on both of those screenshots you have lamps connect to those blue boxes. It doesn't seem very sensible to place the lamp there.

Here's a template for my main castle using rtp crap.

Seems to be missing something (besides the front door).

Thoughts?

I don't know why people make maps so big. the player can only see a small portion of what is in front of them. Unless you pan all over this map, seems like a waste of time to build something so immense. Looks ok, but just too big for a normal game.

Thankies if you wouldn't mind please^^

Thanks a bunch Panda! I know I was doing something unusual about the lamp placement. (I think outside of the box a tad bit) But I did grow up in an area where it wasn't unusal to take everyday items and wire the inside to make interesting light fixtures or use them to make furniture, etc. I.E turning an old lobster trap into a table or wiring it up into a lamp and covering it in rice paper. Viola! Interesting paper latern!

Side note; everyone's callin' me Kiera? -_- Perhaps Kieara should change her name..^_~

Kicks, awesome. Which would be the only word to describe it if I weren't a critical bitch. It looks really flat into comparisation to the character. Get some depth into it, a slightly different angle maybe. A bit more from above, still side-view don't get me wrong, cause I love that =)

InvisibleDrifter, that's pretty neat, but watch it with the trees. Think of how the branches would go, make it less static, etc. Try making a large tree for example, like one of 'em huge oaks, or what may be easier, some bushes.

Malick, seriously watch that mapping. The lone black tiles look wrong. and you should show a bit of floor before an entrance/door.

KieAra, you're doing great with the lightning. The restaurant, is what I guess which it is looks great also. Some points of critism however (as usual); the windows, even though it fills up nicely, they clash. The large decorated windows with the plain ones, looks like someone didn't have the money to buy more pretty windows to me. The wooden platforms don't look too realistic on the stone pillars to me either. And why are those boats drifting aimlessly on the water?
Limited by RTP eh?

@CryofFallenAngels: Wow^^ Thanks sooo much for that indepth C&C. For the windows, It is because you can only afford a few not all. (They are stained glass so not every house has one and tis almost a status statement if you do) but I'll work on trying to blend them in better, I think it's missing a shadow or something. As for the wooden plateform on the stone, I'm having the HARDEST time making it look convincing, I've done everything from making the wooden planks a pixel width thicker and making the stone supports spread out so it's convincing enough to hold it up. But if you could PM me some suggestions on what to do I'd appreciate it ^^. As for the drifting boats, didn't think that out completely I'm afraid, I'll have to change the one and find a way to make the rest look tethered to the dock.

@Atnas I like the artstyle much! The only thing that I feel doesn't mesh (an aesthetic opinon, and as such can be disreguarded when artistic license is in play) is the foreground building, it's more "solid/structured" than the background and surrounding area's "soft watercolor/pencil" look.

I think the windows would fit better if they were of similar colors. Right now, the stained glass has a silver/gray outline whereas the regular windows are brown wood. Perhaps if you recolored them to be of the same shade, it would be more cohesive.

As for the planks, perhaps you could add support beams that attach the planks to the stone. Something like this:

It was just done quickly to show the general idea, so please excuse the crappiness of it :*)

That is how it is going to look. The white circle on the HUD will darken as you receive blows. The meter on the bottom is full, at the moment. You fill it up by killing enemies and decrease it by running around, jumping, and attacking. Also I have a music system planned depending on how full it is. The fuller, the faster the bass line, and if it remains at full for a period of time, guitar solos come in.

@ Atnas - it looks very differant and I quite like it but I'm not sure what that dark thing above the player's head is, it looks a bit like a cloud. Also that sound system seems like an interesting idea.
---
@ arevulopapo - it looks nice but what's with those lines?
---
Also I'm trying to make a tileset to go with the breeze template:

I'm not really a graphics person so if I'm doing anything wrong or even well or you have any suggestions on how to improve I would love to hear them.

A thousand thanks for that reference and suggestion!
With a quick whip up of frankenspriting I was able to hopefully make it more supportive...and hopefully the window doesn't look as out of place.

That's beautiful kieara. I would possibly change the water under the bridge though. I know the bridge obviously casts shadows, but the water just don't ... mesh. And there's an error in the bottom, with the stool overlapping the table. But, other than that, I really like it.

Be harsh.

I hate you I hate you I hate you, I'm going to re-inspect it tommrorrow morning and try if I can find something I can say something mean about it, but now I'm not spotting anything to nitpick on.

Kieara, that's much better, could use a bit of improvement at a few spots of course, but that won't take more than a bit of tweeking. I wouldn't have thought of a suggestion like lunarea's this quickly.
