An area I'm working on, at the moment it's just called "The Myre" until I find a better name. Basically, it's made with parts from the swamp RTP tileset. But, I editted it a lot. The grass is different, it's de-saturised and a slightly different hue. The swamp-y water I changed from purple to a sort of aquamarine colour, as it looks more realistic that way. I then editted the thin bridge to create broken variants, seen in this screenshot. Finally, I gave the map a nice fog, with a slightly green tone, and changed the screen colour tone to slightly darker and more green.

The swamp tileset is one of the only tilesets I've never-ever used :)

Notes:
-The ghost-type things are Vamps. They are the spirits left behind when a vampire is killed, and will follow you around. They are not enemies in the sense that you cannot kill them, but if one occupies the same space as you, they will slowly drain your health bar. If a whole load of them occupy the same space as you you are in trouble. They are also very hard to see, for the reason of making it harder :)

-The rock in front of the player is one of the many re-arangable things in the map. Pressing enter moves it forwards, like in Sokoban but you have to press enter. :) This is useful for unblocking your path, or solving puzzles. But, it can also block your path.

-This area is mainly puzzle based, with many puzzles and challenges to complete to get to the other end of the map. This whole map is a "quest".

-The HUD: there are three windows to it. The HP/MP/XP bar, the party bar, and the chat bar. Each are hidable/callable. The chat bar here is hidden.

I like the fact that your fog makes sense to the environment and is about right. Still clear to see through but adds a muggy effect I'd expect from an area such as that.

@Flamerfox: Looking pretty good, except there are a few things about the walls that bug me. About halfway up, the metal wall beams go back to darker shading, which makes the wall look almost bent. You should make a new tile so that the beams transition better. Also, the curtains might look better if they were reaching all the way to the ground. As they are now, it looks like you wouldn't be able to close them unless you had some sort of pole to help you reach. Plus there's no way to cover the bottom windows if you wanted to.

Also, this may just be personal preference, but the two kinds of brick on the same wall seems a bit odd. IMO, you should just kept one constant texture. Or you could experiment and color the bottom texture to make it look painted.

EDIT:
Looking at it again, the curtains might look good if you made them completely straight instead of tied back, and also if you extended them all the way to the inner edges of the beams.

This is another screenshot of the map I just showed.

This is the "entrance" to the map - a crashed airship. It is supposed to look like it has sunk in the swampy-water.

Also, what is everyone's opinions on the ad at the bottom of the screen? It will only appear in the free edition, and I've tried to make it as un-obstructing as possible.

I'm using the music "Negative-05" for this map, it seems to fit well.

@Erichermit

Nicely done map, the atmosphere is nice. Your dialogue is filled with bizzare words but i guess when you play the game you don't notice it really...

Maybe you should recolor the item sign, dosen't fit with the churches. And why does the path lead to a wall with no door?

I also don't like the perspective RMXP gives when you have the wall and the building sticked together, but one tile of spacing seems too much, you would need to edit the wall tile by like, 16 pixel maximum...

@Wyatt

Wow, decent rmxp ships are rare to find these days...and that one even-has a water-wood collision or whatever its called! If you didn't said it was sunken i would have though that its the best ship ever. Well, its still the best ship ever cause i never saw any other with water collision but anyways...

And i think the ads are allright like that...

@Eric:
The map looks nice, though there appears to be a path leading directly into a wall at the top of the screen <.< The item sign is a bit high up, but other than that, the map looks good. Dark and stormy :D

@Wyatt:
That ship looks awesome @_@ Don't think the ad will get in the way, I've seen them like that on a lot of flash games and things...

Cliffs are the bane of me e_e Took me 2 days, and that's all that's done x_x

@Arev: Wow, very nice.

@Jaber: Heh, just keep practicing. You'll get it eventually.

And here's a screen of a darker, semi-swamp forest from my game...

The fog moves, so... yeah. :D

@arevulopapo: That looks awesome, but I'm not sure if I like the color of the lights behind the doors... it doesn't really fit well with the rest of the color scheme of the map in my opinion. The rest looks good, but that part is very eye catching.

@Erichermit: Awesome stuff there man. I love those doors on the houses... did you edit those yourself? And I remember that project from way back when... it's gotten better by a long shot it looks like.

@Arcanum: Nah, the doors aren't edited by me. And thank you =) I remember YOUR projects from way back when but unfortunantly I haven't been able to find any completed. Have you finished any?
I also remember using a lot of the things you made to make battlers with too.

Thanks for feedback, Arcanum. This one map is a special place, and those lighted tunnels lead to other special places :d I'll see how would it look with the lights not so strong but some light will have to stay. The rest of the location isn't that colorful ;)

@Terru16389: The fog gives it a nice atmosphere. Though, I might try adding a more brownish or de-saturated screen tint too, even a slight one, to make it seem a little more... murky. Ah, but you did say it was a semi-swamp forest, so maybe, maybe not. :s

@malick: I like the variation in the ground tiles... I've pretty much neglected that set you used there. Now I'm inclined to make more ground autotiles/tiles. ^_^

@Erichermit: Good job, the mapping is far better, as well as the tint and atmosphere. And I like the doors too. :) To me, though, the blue flowers seem a little out of place; the small ones seem too saturated for the overall tone. Oh, and by the item sign, there are two roof tiles that look odd. There's another similiar error on the other side of the screen. ...I hope my pickyness is helpful. o_o;;

Erm... it seems re-colouring tilesets is rather popular now, isn't it? Haha, here's my shot at it... Any constructive criticism and comments would be appreciated. I posted a screenshot of what it looked like before I recoloured most of it. Thanks.

I've got some matching interior tilesets, but I think this will do for now. ^_^
