The Blacksmith's Apprentice

The Blacksmith's Apprentice - Version 1.5 released

i'll try to explain better :)

i'm in the ancient castle where you rescue the little boy. there are 6 torches on each level that i'm supposed to light to make the undead guards disappear and to lift the curse from the people in the castle. I already rescued the boy and lit all 6 torches on all of the floors except for the third floor (the floor right above the one where you fight the 'boss' - sorry i forget his name). i found and lit 5 of them but i cant seem to find where the 6th one is. the guards are still on this floor so i know that i havent finished it.

in this room (here's a screenshot: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v115/ ... enshot.jpg)[/url] it still shows that i havent drained the water when i thought i already did. but when i'm on the 3rd level, i can see that room, and the torch is unlit and the water is gone. I'm pretty sure its the same room: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v115/DawnFire/screenshot2.jpg

i assume thats the 6th torch i need to light but i cant, so i was wondering if i was missing something?

About the Cistern switch problem:  Someone else mentioned they experienced that problem earlier, but I still can't figure out WHY.  Most people don't experience any issues when they encounter that part of the game.  I did make a change to that event, but I didn't think the change would really do anything, and apparently it didn't.  Maybe if you emailed me your saved game I could take a look at the variables.

EDIT: Have you tried going back down to the Cistern room?  That's where the last unlight torch can be found.  From the second floor of the ruins, go to the bottom right of the map.  That should lead you to the (now-unflooded) Cistern room.  If not, go ahead and email me your saved game.

thanks for your reply! yeah its still flooded when i go back to the cistern switch room, thats when i took the screenshot to show it was still flooded. but i can see it unflooded from the third floor. i'll go ahead and email you my save file then, i assume its the same as your username? :)

@Dawnfire:  Your saved game has been emailed back to you with a few adjustments, so you should be able to continue.  I'm still trying to figure out why that happened, I'll post the permanent fix as soon as I can.

Can someone help me out?
I'm at the part where the Mauraders are going to Willow Glen, but when I use the Caravan to Thornbury, the Caravan
disappeared!  I'd love to put a screenshot, but I dont know how.

Ctrl+PrtScrn then paste into an image editing program, save it, and upload it with imageshack. Also, you're not supposed to go to Willow Glen,
Find a man with a messanger bird, talk to him. He has blue hair and lives in one of the houses in Lief's Haven.

Dawnfire,

If you've already done what KRoP suggested in the spoiler above, and it still doesn't work, I'm wondering if there were any weather effects going on when you jumped on the Caravan.  (Yes, that's actually related).

I already did that.  It's when I go to Thornbury, that's when he disappeared.

EDIT:  Nevermind.  I turns out that you had to go East, and eventually you'd find him..

[A late congratulations on regaining your project. Just wanted to remind you to start backing things up online! Good luck with getting back on track.]

thank you so so much!! i really appreciate you fixing that for me :)

i also wanted to report another bug i just found. i'm in the cave thats at the back of the garrison, and i tried to open a brown chest and it says: File Graphics/Pictures/Potions - clear not found. I click ok and the game crashes.

Here's a screenshot so you can see: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v115/DawnFire/screenshotcaves.jpg

i'm not sure whats in the chest or if its anything important, but i figured i should let you know since it crashed the game

I guess a graphics file is missing.
Btw, there's a cave behind the Garrison? Gawd, there's a lot of stuff I missed that I'm going to check out in the next demo.

yep! its all the way at the back of the garrison, just to the left of the area all the guards are. though the monsters in there seem kind of hard and give a lot more experience points and gold than all of the others, so maybe this is another area that will be explored later?

i also just wanted to say, i just finished the demo and i enjoyed it so much! i've never made a game before and dont know much about the process so i dont have anything to add in terms of advice, but even i can see how much work must have gone into this game! i really love where the story is going so far, though curse the demo for ending with such a cliff hanger! lol. i love the characters as well and their relationshops, i love Charis and William.

I really really really look forward to when this game is finished. It's going to be great and I cant wait!

Thanks for finding that bug, Dawnfire.  I hope you didn't have to repeat too much after that happened.  The chest didn't have anything too important, just some Forest Water.  And yes, those caves are definitely intended for more advanced adventurers.

Anyway, I'm glad you liked the demo!  I wish I could say for certain when the next part will come out.  I'm definitely working on it now, and quite motivated... but it does take a lot of time.  I'll try to post a new version with some updates soon, nothing too major though.

oh no dont worry, i had just saved a few minutes before i opened it so i hardly lost anything :) i've gotten into the habit of saving frequently in case things like that happen. no rush on the next part, i know that it must take a very long time to do! I'm glad that you are still motivated and still working on it though, too many great games go unfinished and I would hate to see this one take the same fate. i look forward to the next part whenever you are able to do it! :)

oh, that crash with the chest happened to me too, that was quite funny to be honest (but I also remembered to save). I really liked your game, I think one of the parts with most fun was that ghost castle side quest. I have no idea if it was intended or not, but running away from 20+ ghost guards (or trying to kill them- a never ending quest) was really something. Although, I didn't manage to find 1 torch in the castle no matter how much I played the game. I think I lit accidentally a torch I wasn't supposed to lit with normal fire (I have a guess on the one in basement 2 near the door to basement 3. Other than that, the game was great, solid storyline (not extremely original, but still neat ^^) and fun gameplay. [thumbs up]
