The Blacksmith's Apprentice

The Blacksmith's Apprentice - Version 1.5 released

Is it me, or...

When I try and jump with the southwest tree (the last on the line) to right or left (to get those buhes), I allways land on the pikes and am sent back from whence I came. Di I need something to protect my feet ?? or did I miss a tree ??

First, @Fustel:  The bendy trees will launch you different distances, depending on when you jump.  When the wind is blowing harder (you can tell by the wind fog moving faster, as well as the breeze sound), you will launch farther westward, or closer eastward.

As for the others having the trouble after returning to Willow Glen... it looks like I may have introduced a new bug when I revamped that part.  I'm currently looking into it and I'll have a new version posted as soon as I can.  Sorry for the trouble.

Wow... I didn't realiza there was so much parameters to take into account !!! That's GREAT !!!
Only some little hints ingame should help a little...

I've posted a new version at the top of the thread.  It has the fix for the bug near the end of demo, as well as a new underwater section on Quill's Island.  I've also implemented a pick-axe, which can be found in the Dwarven Mines.  Once you have this item, you'll be able to explore some additional areas.

@Fustel:  I did initially have some hints about the bendy trees, but it seemed out of place, and it sort of broke the suspension of disbelief.  I'm happier with it being a little harder, by not pandering to the player...  I do appreciate the feedback, and I'm glad you liked it.

when i got to garrison save is disabeled

That issue was fixed in the latest version.  It's available on the first page.

EDIT:  You could also go to the World Map through the south bridge, and return right away... that will restore your ability to save, but you won't be able to leave the area until AFTER you've talked to the Elf.

Yeah the disabling of saves is kind of annoying.

Nice game but I do wish you would make the battles less monotonous. Seriously, I'm at the point where I'm playing dodgeball with the enemies. Why? Only skill attacks work, skill takes mana, you can't escape from battles.. So if you don't advioud you screw yourself in the middle of nowhere with endless gameover screens,

Now I'm stuck at the Ancient Ruins. I've made the water go down but I can't light the 'magical torches'. Presumably I need a 'magical fire' or something? I can't find anything and I've explored to the point of exhaustion.

Not only Juno can answer that you know^^... =\

On the first floor you should find a curtain, try examining that

I think that's what you need pandemikk, although it's been a while since I've been through that part.

Thanks TamaThps, that's what he needs.  As for disabling saves, I only do that on the World Map, because the World Map is the only area with Random Encounters (which are plot related), and I don't want people to be able to venture away from a safe area, save, and then be unable to get back before the random encounter kicks in.

And @pandemikk: I do appreciate your honesty with regard to the battles, I actually agree that they can get monotonous.  It's something I want to revamp, but it will take a lot of work and I don't want to risk unbalancing the game too much during production.  Changing it too much makes fixing the occasional bug extremely difficult).

oh and I found a bug. On ancient ruins if you Light a Tinderbox on any floor it will light up like it would in a cave... But the moment you go a floor up/down the screen'll be so dark you can't see anything.

Okay, just finished the demo.
Didn't realize how close I was to the end... btw you know there's an event command that's called "Return to Title" so you don't have to tell the player to press F12, right?
Anyway, the game was good! The ending really made me want to continue, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it continues.

The Royal Guard is way too hard.. What were you thinking.. They pretty much always attack before you can use an item to heal and each attack does around 50 damage.. And I have some good armor..

They miss sometimes, but not nearly enough.. Shouldn't the flames weaken them?

Thanks for the tip, RPGPlayer.  I somehow never noticed that one before.

Are you battling them before or after you've been to the Dwarves?  I set the difficulty on the Ancient Ruins so that players could beat it before seeing the Dwarves if they really wanted to, by grinding and getting the best stuff, but you'll have a much better chance at winning if you come back to it after getting the coal and leveling up.

And thanks for mentioning the Tinderbox bug.  I'll look into that.

I just finished it, overall good stuff my friend.  A few comments
At the end Arthur decides to go with William.  I see that they have to fake Williams death in order for him to escape, but wouldn't the soldiers notice now that Arthur is also gone?  A town of about 15 people and one of the vanishes, someone would notice.

Also the girl with the scarf that is supposed to be jaw dropping beautiful, from looking at her face picture is actually one of the more ugly characters in the game, lol.

Looking forward for the next update.

^-^ That's not a bug, that's... magic.

Thanks, I actually already caught that one right AFTER I uploaded the latest version.

When the soldiers take over Glen... If you go to the blacksmiths shop you'll see grant is still there... When he's in prison.

Are you sure it's Grant, and not a generic blacksmith that the soldiers have employed?
EDIT: Or do you mean in his house?

Well if it isn't you should work on making him look different than Grant ;)... Oh and as Arthur I've completed all of Bloomingfield's errands AND talked to Belarus about William's escape yet no more dialogs or progression occurs?
