Quintessence: The Blighted Venom

Quintessence - The Blighted Venom

Sorry for the delayed reply; responded on the quintessence-tbv.com/forum Yes, they are on my list of renovation in the future.

I'm heading back to campus tomorrow, and hence why I'm rather occupied these days preparing and etc. Break ends the day after, and so does the break from Quintessence. Again, will get more info out here when I get started!

P.S. Feel free to drop by at the quintessence home forum, guys. :) It's been fairly active these past few days. *shameless plug*

I have to say I like this game. The only thing is that I'm stuck in Aeria when I have to wait till sunset to meet Lunair at the south gates. I don't know what to do. O.o

Yeah, I got stuck there, too.

You have to complete 3 things in order to move the story forward from that part:
1. Finish the mini-quest that starts in a house located in the north part of South District.
2. Visit the Central. (East of starting point in Royal Distr.)
3. Visit Alden's memorial. (Northeast of starting point in Royal Distr.)

My bad, I should've given out some hints on what to do in that place. D:

I've added a Hints and Solutions etc. board on Quintessence's home forum, as well as a new section "Ask-the-Characters" board, that some might find amusement of:

Chapter VII - "White Lie" is now under production.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v385/ ... apter7.jpg[/img]

The length is currently unstable, but I am estimating that it will be relatively short. Also, it will be more mild compared to the last chapter in terms of action, and will be more story-focused in comparison as well.

There will also be a long-overdue focus on Kaire, in one way or another.

Overall, I am going to try to keep the length short and the content to the point; and if I manage to do so, it should take less time to make than Chapter VI. It is still too early to say for certain though, as I might end up trailing off or splitting it into two parts as I did with Chapter V/VI. :)

Several new soundtrack selections are made and will be made for this chapter, and there is also a small chance that there will be the first song in the soundtrack that is actually sang; largely depending on whether I could find a suitable singer and James' approval.

I just beat 1-6, though please let people able to move their Save(s) into the Chapter VII.
I don't want to start over either took me almost 7 hours to beat the game. :(
Though I did a complete bug test, and everything. I don't like that there's
hardly any fighting. Needs to be more :D

Of course old saves can be used to continue, as they have been for the past 5 releases. On top of that, I also provide a continuing save file myself. I read through your bug reports on quintessence's forum; they are very detailed and helpful, so thanks very much for your time on reporting! :)

I am currently in the process of mapping/editing etc. There will be backtracking in this chapter.

(There are some mapping mistakes in there that I still need to fix.)

I would like to help with this game, but I doubt you would let me.
I don't mean mapping/or scripting/or story. I just want to try to
help in some other way, so it seems like I ain't trying to steal your
things in the game.
I like all the effects you have, and animations. Seems really cool, glad
to know I helped in some way. Good luck with Chapter VII.

EDIT: By the way are you using the newest face maker? 3.1.
Has many more options, and you can change skin tone, hair color, and everything
with more detail. If your using a old one I can send you the file.
If you want I can redo all the faces with the new program, and send them to you.
Then if you like any of them you can put them in. ;)
I will keep them the same, just the new graphics are much better than the old ones.

@Hellladin:
Your detailed bug reports really do help greatly. :) It is much appreciated, and you can well consider yourself as to have helped with the project.

I have the face maker 3.1 right now, and also 3.2 in Japanese. (Using 3.1 though.) It does seem smoother, but it's not worth the hassle to redo everything since there are almost 400 face pics now; and after all the chapters are complete, I am planning to make custom face pics referenced by those anyhow. :> Thanks for the offer none the less.

I am still in the process of recolouring and editing maps to autumn and winter, and it's quite a chore. But victory lies just ahead! Oh, and also, I have been improving a few selected maps from the earlier chapters that were badly mapped (there still lies a few bad maps around though, I don't have the time to fix everything until all chapters are done).

And here's a screenshot on one of the revamped music intro video scenes, in replacement of the old horrible swamp cluster + some random grave stone thingy:

By the way, I was thinking that it might be a good idea to have the Ending Music Video play at the end of every chapter, with different pictures shown each time it is played that is relevant to the chapter at hand. It will be skippable of course, and I thought that it might give it a more episodic feel (as well as allow me to do something else for the final ending). What do you guys think of that idea?

that would actually be a cool idea. The themes are amazing so I don't think it would get annoying or anything. It probably might get boring after a couple of chapters like 3 or 4, but if it is skip able that isn't a problem.
btw, I found a very little, really unimportant bug lol. I wasn't going to mention it as I doubt someone would find it, but if you're redoing maps this would be a simple edit. Unless you don't care  :P Another one I noticed was that preview you posted above this post. At the back of the map, it looks weird how suddenly there is tall grass, but it could just be me.

Also, do you have a predicted date for the release of Chapter VII? The wait is killing me.
While I wait I figured what else to do beside wander around. Yes I have no life.  ;D
I haven't found any bugs that Hellladen didn't cover yet  ^-^

Hey, came back to the rmxp community after a few months absence (right after the chapter 5 release) and I'm loving chapter 6 so far, although I ran into a bug that's preventing me from continuing =/

I havn't read the whole thread yet, so it's possible this bug has been reported, but I'll say it just in case. In one of the previous chapters Reives must have died and not been healed, he's been at 0 hp and KO'd for awhile now. So when I started the battle with the 3 soldiers in the dungeon, I get an instant gameover, and I have no items in my inventory that can resurrect someone.

If this hasn't been fixed already, maybe have all characters be healed before a battle starts? Or at least heal after every chapter.

Hello. I needed some inspiration for my RPG so i decided to check out Quintessence. It is completely awesome. Beautiful music, beautiful story, beautiful graphics, everything is beautiful. In time I hope I can make an RPG on the level of yours, but i doubt i'll ever get as awesome as you in RMXP :D

@Rpgx:
Thanks for the heads up on those glitches. :) And the estimate release date... still too sketchy to give one at the moment. Probably in a couple of months? It will *probably* take a shorter time to make than Chapter VI.

@Hellladin:
Heheh, gesture much appreciated. Do ya happen to know html by the way? :p

@Kemuri:
Welcome back to RMXP! And sorry again about that glitch (to everyone who might have an old save file; it's probably best to use the save file I provided). Hope the save I sent ya was of some help. :>

@RyanAllen:
Heheh, glad ya enjoyed it. I read in your thread that you are revamping your project after playing this - for one, I am flattered. But something that amuses me is that that reminds me so much about myself a year ago; after being inspired from playing Memento Vivere.

For those who don't know, the Quintessence you see on this thread is actually the second, revamped version of the project. The first version had about 3 hours of game play time, it was chapter 1 to 3, I think. Anyhow, just for your amusement, these are some screenshots from the earliest version of Quintessence:

(I am serious. These are taken from a Walk-Through MS Word file I made in July 3 2006. I might release that for fun sometimes, but it seriously makes me cringe.)

BEHOLD!!

http://www.quintessence-tbv.com/O_M_G.jpg[/img]

Can you guess where those are?

1. Kitchen in Korbin Village
2. Korbin Woods
3. Some battle
4. Kardian's cabin
5. The well area in Korbin Village
6. Viper Valley
7. Gaurav Town

Can ya tell the difference between now and then? :p

The reason why I am posting this shameful material is to give some encouragement to new RMXP users. This simply shows that everyone starts as a newbie - so do not be discouraged if your project is harshly criticized. If you were to quit because you are not perceived as good from the start, or even months after that, then you would always remain there as the above old screenshots show.

So yes, Quintessence was once a big pile of poo. If I were to start with that version here now, it would be ranked as one of the worst games around here; and Luminier would probably be slapping me around right now righteously. D:

Awesome Bro

*Cough* I know HTML *cough*

as for your screen shots of the earlier version of Q:TBV, they still are probably better than anything I can produce as of right now!

You are the man!
