Hey, thanks Elias, path and Adrem! And my favourite in terms of the actual music is probably Korbin Village by James Q. Zhang- it's also the first song (in midi format back then) that James wrote for this. D: I didn't even know how to compose then.

That...was awsome...the plot...was great... it was overall good... i'd've liked it more if his wife died though... and then a new love story begins with re..whats his name and naira

I've been working slowly on a side-grade to Quintessence's game-play side. It is actually an exterior feature outside of story - VS mode with unlockable characters. Here are two screens so far:

I am in need of opinions on how the battles should be formatted, though. Right now I am thinking between the current CBS with better AI and special abilities for each character, and a side-scroll KoF style battle system. Any suggestions/feedback would be very appreciated! D:

I'm late back onto the forum now, and I have just downloaded Chaper V. And let me say, it is beautiful. I have only completed about half of it as of now, but I do believe that Vikon's mermaid story is the best RMXP moment I have ever played. Combining a great scene with a better character, and brilliant humour, this scene is superb! KUDOS!!! :D

Of course! D: It wouldn't be cheesy enough without it.

And thanks brad. :> I originally had planned a much longer and interactive version of that part, but ran out of time. Later on in the game though, you can probably get that as a readable item.

The VS mode is a very slow side-grade I'm working on during breaks between Chapters, it won't be done any time soon - But what do you think the actual battle system should be like? Obviously not turn based or anything, but like a platform classical vs. style or an advanced version of the current BS?

Haven't checked this out quite in a while :)
Ehh, looks like you never get tired, and I like it :p. Most people (me included :x) quit after a while, even when the project is awesome and lots of people are waiting for it, but you just keep going. :)

I downloaded Chapter 5 and it's great, as usual. :p
I'm not trough it yet tho... I couldn't find what I have to do, when I'm walking with Reivier in Aeria and have to wait till sunset to meet Lunair at the gates. I ran out of time and had to go...

I do believe that Vikon's mermaid story is the best RMXP moment I have ever played.

About the battle system... I think the current one is ok, I like it :)
That vs mode looks cool, can't wait to play that ^^

THIS GAME IS NOT A GAME ITS A FREAKING 2D MOVIE, i could honestly only sit through a little over the second chapter before i was utterly bored, and had to quit, i think you could have thrown in a little more game play and a little more side attractions, because i game isnt just all about story, you also have to have enticing gameplay!

my 2 cents...

Here's what ya have to do in Aeria to move it forward:
1. Visit Alden's Memorial North of Royal District (Starting place).
2. Visit the Central east of Royal District.
3. Complete a mini quest that starts from a northern house in South District.
Then it'll hint you in terms of where to go. :) And nay, I've grown tired of it a few months ago, but it's just something personal that keeps me going. D:

Word, you are absolutely correct.

I guess i should compliment something instead of being all negative.

Visually, It was awesome, great use of fogs, and lighting, and animations ;)

the story wasnt bad, but i thought the gameplay/to gamewatch ratio wasnt the best, it was just something i expected from a game i guess :P

It's just that at the beginning of the first post, I described it as:
Unlike the typical RPGs, <Quintessence - The Blighted Venom> has a primary focus on its story through the mass usage of attempted pseudo cinematic cut-scenes.

A mini interactive show, if you will.

And with that, I just found your opening reply of:

and the comments on the ratio, which is stated to be slanted, rather ignorant. :)

Quintessence isn't for everyone, especially dialogue-skippers; it's a cross between Nadir's Canon genred (completely gameplay-less) and a normal RPG. For now, at least. :> As priorly stated, the reason that I picked up RMXP was not to make just a game, but to turn the pre-established story of Quintessence into a graphical and musical experience.

And until I finish all the chapters on that level to enter the polishing/adding stage, that'll be my sole goal. :>

BTW Reives, as far as battle system goes - if you're not going to use the normal battle system you could be all Suikoden rock/paper/scissor styled duels as an extra unlockable gameplay with cool little animations thrown in as a bonus.
 
Hahah, rock-paper-scissors? That might be cool, but making cool graphics isn't really my thing. :< Perhaps I can adapt something from that, though.

And yep, nice work Dagger. :) The style is cute.


Mm, I've been thinking that it might be worth it to try to make a Christmas release on Chapter VI, although that may or may not happen as I am currently being bombarded. :x Two exams and a programming assignment this week, and I got some catching up to do. After those are over, I should be able to get started though! I've been shaping all the ideas up in the past couple of weeks. :>

One thing that's holding me back on the Christmas release thing though, is the possibility that the chapter won't be "merry", and hence gives a bad vibe. D:
 
Bravo. I have just finished chapter V. I almost jumped for joy when, well, if you've played you'll know. I loved chapter V, and it was without a doubt my favourite chatper.

Oh, and I think that a multiplayer thing would be great. I would say a more detailed version of the original battle system would be great, or the rock paper scissors would be equally as good.
As for the christmas release, just do a christmasy/bell version of "To Realize" and I don't think anyone will complain. I mean, come on, it's Quintessence! ;)
 
Heheh, thanks. It's my favourite Chapter too. It seems I've been improving per chapter since III, :p, II being the worst. And ooh, that Christmas version of To Realize is a neat idea! I think I might just do that.

By the way, what would ya guys rank the chapters in terms of favourite to least favourite preference? I'll be able to focus on improving the least favourite sometimes. :>

And speaking of improving each chapter; Chapter VI is now under production!

Why is the title "The Beginning"? *shrug*, but doesn't that make you curious? ;)

I'm still quite occupied these few weeks with exams and whatnot, though. I'll have more information when I get deeper into it. :>
