As you all know, Quintessence is still a project under development, and hence (minor) changes to prior details could still apply before its final completion.

And here are a few minor changes being made:
  • Iria/Aira's name is now Eshe.
  • Morra's name is now Dasha.
  • Azura's name is now Agatha.
  • Rayne is now recoloured to become an egg-plant as originally intended.
 
Ooookay. I thought that's what happens when you mess with the Quintessence. /_\ I'm thinking of drawing a fan art too but I don't have the time to look at all the other fan arts for references :-/

  • I gave my friend a copy of your game and he got addicted. :thumb:

Hello there Reives.

Well, I'm just asking wether is there a download link for individual chapter instead of chapter 1-5? The thing is my Internet is super-slow so downloading a separate chapter can save me lot of time.
 
Thanks Path and ff. :> And ah, I'll check out that map then. I'm assuming that there's a spot where you can walk up to the sky? If it's just to the grass outside of the town, it was intended.

Sadly I have not subdivided the chapters into individual downloadable parts. :< But to be honest, the actual data would be ~10% of the total size, where as the media and resources taking the majority of the weight - and those are used in every chapter.

So what I think I'll do in the future, given time allows, is to just make another download option where the file excludes the old audio resources used in the past chapters and only include the new ones in that department. That way, you can basically download the new ones and copy-paste the old audio resources to the folder. It should save about 20 mb in size.

None the less, I've been trying to minimize the size overall via compression and etc. The size of all 5 current chapters combined is smaller than one episode of Domain, for example.
 
Oh hey, I also found a small bug, in the first map, where the main character's home is, there is a tree priority/layering problem, where you are on top of the tree or something. It's is located on the right side of the map somewhere, near the top.
 
Ah, thanks for the report. But I searched around there and couldn't find it. It is the map with the tent, right? If possible, could ya take a screenshot of the place?
 
Hmmm... Can't find it anymore...
But I did find a few glitches with water passablity, appears as if you set the water autotile to be passable so you can cross over logs, and added something like an event for all the water tiles that did not have passibility on the map, which I don't think is mandatory.
Anyways, here is a screen:

Ah, I keep forgetting to fix those. (And there are some shadow cut-off errors in those 2 screen as well :p )

The walkable glitch is actually due to the other tiles over it, such as grass tiles and the invisible part of the tree tiles overlapping it. Putting events over all the water tiles would be insane, hahah.

I wish I could play this right away. It doesn't resemble a game so much as it does a work of art. Things look sort of hopeless for me now; at the moment (and for years to come, I presume,) I couldn't possibly muster the creativity and effort that must have gone into this game.

The walkable glitch can just be fixed by making an impassable blank tile and placing it on the highest layer over the water, right?

And if you don't mind my asking, how did you manage the integrated title screen and intro?

Heheh, thanks. And don't worry, everyone starts out somewhere. At first, Quintessence was a piece of junk as well... then I played some games here at .org (was in another small-packed community before coming here) - And I suddenly got inspired and became superman (relative to the me prior), doing a complete overhaul. :>

And yes to the glitch fixing, but I think it needs to be on the same layer as the water to block it.

The title screen passing onto the intro was made possible by making the title screen out of a map to begin with. There is a skip title screen script somewhere, and I basically made a title screen with picture eventing on that map. :)
 
This game is very entertaining and the story just kept moving and building. I love the battle system, the dash is so fun to use, the battles are also challenging enough where you really can't get bored. This is the first project in a while, that had a that story got me waiting to see what happens next. I don't have any critiques to say about it, I had fun the whole time I played it. Keep up the astounding work.

I have an early Christmas present for everyone in the making. . . But again, it's still work in progress:

This is my first time CGing something other than sky. . . Still doing trial and error with the shading. :x Hope I can pull it off. Also, I'm going to switch that background later - the current one's just a panorama I did a while ago.
 
There you go just for you xD. The gradient in the background was blinding anyways. I'll get around to making a real nice animated on one day but right now I gotta work on my game.

Edit:Forgot to mention that the picture is looking great, its so big it stretches the board lol.
