Quintessence: The Blighted Venom

Quintessence - The Blighted Venom

Thanks. :)

I have now finished the ending music video - both the song and the video. By ending video, I just mean a general "episode-end" video, not for the whole series. (Video download link at the bottom of this post; in rmxp game format, of course.)

The song is probably my personal favorite out of all my compositions so far. :> Here's the raw song (some crackling due to bad recording):

Here are some screenshots of the "video":

Annnd here is the actual game file for the video to be played! Only 5mb, and I was fond of how it turned out:

(By the way, try not having any programs running at the background during its play, or switch windows.)

Hope it's a treat. :> All feedback welcomed, and thanks for your time!

Am I the only one getting 101 passage errors? I mean, I can walk on the moon, pass through signs. e.g

Just thought I'd mention that before I finish the demo.

Hm, there are a few passability errors I am aware of. However, do you mean that at one point the "through" mode was on for the player? Or just some passability spots?

Ahh, I think I know what you are talking about. Thanks for the heads up, and my apologies for the glitch. :) It will be fixed in the next release.

In the mean time, enjoy the free trips to the moon!

Wewt, welcome to RMXP!! :)

The battle system is actually 100% evented. :p Muahahah, scripts can't save ya this time!

P.S. Update: I've just finished half the civilians' edits and etc... And I feel ridiculous. A city full of blondes with purples eyes; Mary Sues/Gary Stus for you writers who are familiar with those terms... *shudder*

P.P.S.
Almost finished making all the interiors for Chapter V. I am trying something new for civilian residence this time - making all the interiors of one exterior map onto one single map. Here are 2 interior map samples of what to expect:

(*Some spaces still not yet filled, and doors are not installed.)

All feedback/suggestions welcomed. :)

=] looks awesome, good to see youre making such quick progress. Id say this would have to be my second favourite rmxp game, closely following motw, simply because your storyline kicks ass! (Sorry, but motw's dungeons will always be the best ever hehe)
Your interiors look really good, i think its a good idea to have them on one map. Any ideas on when chap. 5 will be out?

Heheh, thanks! And there are many games that are better in various aspects. :)

I've no solid due date for Chapter V yet, although I'm getting the foundations done now. University's starting again in a few weeks too, so that might slow things down a bit. Perhaps late September?

Nice progress =)
Sorry I haven't been able to report the bugs I've found. My PC went to the repairs.

Anyways, after that I watched the anime where your avatar is from (it's just awesome btw o_o)
Hmm... Looks like you're a big fan :D
I see alot of inspiration has come from it.
Hmm... Lunair kinda reminds me of Lucy :p

Yup. It was after I finished Chapter 1-3 when I first watched Elfen Lied though. Some of my directing of Chapter IV's scenes were influenced by the show's directing techniques. :) One of the things that caught my interest with EL actually was, as you mentioned, the similarity between Lucy and Lunair. I guess Lucy's more brutal though, heh.

Anyhow, I am almost finished Aeria Capital's mapping in its entirety. It is probably the biggest set of maps I have made so far, with ~30 non RTP and edited NPCs.

Currently I am planning to release an Aeria-tour demo when I get all the civilians and interactions sorted out. It'll probably be a few days from today. :)

Cool :)
I just watched your ending video. Damn the music fits so well with it and everything is so nicely done. Only one thing is bothering me a bit. In the start there's this 'Drift, Quintessence Ending Theme' etc
It looks strange when it's moving and stretching :p
But otherwise good work.

Btw I like the part where that pic of Lunair flashes there for a sec :D

I'm a bit out of the loop as this is my firs time hearing about your project being away for awhile, but I just downloaded the demo. I think the story is just great -very engaging. I found the battle system a bit tough - but mostly because I'm used to round based combat. Just takes some getting used to.

I especially liked the "memories" as the story was told - I think those were nicely handled. Very creative!

Anyway, overall, I think the music, the maps, the characters, the story...all very well done. It's obvious you've put a great deal of time and effort into the game. Can hardly wait to see more!

Couple quick points: there were a few typos here and there in the story, and while the setup is slick -you might want to offer a bit more explanation on the controls and what they mean/do. (I'm guessing since this is a demo that's probably planned and you just haven't gotten it in yet).

Great work overall - very well done and enjoyable.

@zealex:
Glad ya liked it. :) That text stretching thing did bother me too at first, but after a while it looked like rippling effect to me, so I kept it, heheh. I might try to think of a way to do it better though, as it is pixel-y right now.

@Lyrael:
Welcome back! :> And much thanks for trying Quintessence. I'm a little vacillated with the battle system at the moment, as I am considering to make it skippable. But then it would complicate the leveling system (which isn't really much anyhow though, so far). I might just end up slowing down the enemies so it's easier to avoid them. Someone has been helping me with the grammar/spelling errors, but they disappeared after doing chapter 1. :p I'm definitely looking into fixing things up in that department though. (But wow, I can't believe that, after all these years, "appologize" is actually spelt "apologize". *gasp*) All tips taken, and glad you enjoyed it. :)

Keyboard-Playing recordings!

I've just bought the cables to connect the keyboard (as in the instrument)'s output directly to the comp. So now I can record songs internally, wewt. Here are two music box songs I recorded today:

(I'm not a real piano player, just started messing around with it myself two years back, so excuse my struggles and mistakes in the recordings, heheh.)

'To Realize' (Quintessence Main Theme) music box version.
-Lunair's old music box, semi-improvised.

And this is for zealex and everyone else who likes Elfen Lied:
(NOT a song from the Quintessence original sound track!!)
'Lilium' from Elfen Lied, music box version.
-Elfen Lied's main theme, in simplistic music box format.

Enjoy, and all feedback welcomed! :)[/FONT]

Damnit, I forgot to save so I have to do a large part all over again.
Oh well, I'll get to that, simply because the story has be really gripped. There are a few problems with the dialogue, but I can look past that, simple because of the characters/story. You're mapping isn't too bad either. Haha, I remember on the boat you used a Celine Dion midi, please remove that, it was instantly recognizable and I was really disappointed, haha. Um, otherwise, I guess I'll give you my whole opinion when I finish up.

Also, the new 'To Realize' theme is pretty snazzy.

Heheh, sorry it happened. Always save often. :>

That titanic thing was intentionally recognizable, as it was a parody for humour. Some people get it, some people don't, but I think I'll keep it as is for those who do.
(In fact its file name is [PARODY]titanic :p Don't really understand why people don't, to be honest. Titanic theme + ship + Vikon and Sal + The dialogues ._. )

It is also the only non-original music used by the way.

---------------------------------------

I am almost ready to release the Aeria city tour demo. :> It contains a gazillion maps and is the most work I've done so far map-wise.

Middle District Interior:

And of course there are a lot more than what's shown in the sample. I've also tried to make the NPCs interact in a natural fashion, as well as inserting a mini side quest, and a soccer goal-tending mini-game. Plus, a music box store with a few of the Quintessence OST tracks converted into music box, for your custom likings of BGM while checking out Aeria. :>

Those maps are cute, I like the colors, although sometimes you tend to have a little too much going on. I'm not complaining though. Haha, I didn't lurk your file names or anything, I just thought it was being used in seriousness, seeing as how the game doesn't really have a lighthearted feel. Whatever though, I can appreciate the humor in it, haha.

Heheh, I admit that my taste in mapping leans more toward the clustered aspect, that doesn't feel convenient for some people's preference. Every time I see an empty space sitting there something in my head screams "BLOCK IT!!" until the whole room caves in. :| I've been trying to watch out for that though. :>

By the way, just a general question, have you seen the movie Titanic? I kinda had a false assumption that everyone's seen it when I did that parody scene, and you did have a good point; some people will be turned away by it even if they've seen it. I've also been debating on whether I should use it because by using that song, it disables my ability to brag about a "100%" original soundtrack. :p

Take it out. Haha.

I have seen the movie Titanic. I don't think there are people who haven't. I don't know, I didn't find it funny at all. I kind of want to vomit a little, to be honest. Haha.
