Quintessence - The Blighted Venom

Heheh, thought so.

I don't know, I've been getting very mixed opinions on it to both sides of the extreme. Much like the battle system. I'm sorta leaning toward taking it out at the moment; the titanic parody song that is.

(Makio, if ya can hear me, what do you think I should do with that part? :p )

UPDATE: AERIA CITY TOUR DEMO ALMOST DONE!!
I am almost ready to release the Aeria city tour demo. :> It contains a gazillion maps and is the most work I've done so far map-wise.

[*Obviously, this is the setting for the majority of the upcoming Chapter V.]

And of course there are a lot more than what's shown in the sample. I've also tried to make the NPCs interact in a natural fashion, as well as inserting a mini side quest, and a soccer goal-tending mini-game. Plus, a music box store with a few of the Quintessence OST tracks converted into music box, for your custom likings of BGM while checking out Aeria. :>

Oh, and you are able to change the time of the day, via morning/day/sunset/night/light rain/heavy rain.

So keep an eye out for it! :>
 
I wasn't too annoyed with your battle system actually, and I HATE ABS' in RM. So I guess you did a good job on that, so I wouldn't really worry about the battle system.

Wow. I played the whole thing, ch 1-4.

And wow.

To me it was more like an interactive movie, and an amazing one at that.

The story kept me glued to the screen, and some of the characters made me emotional lol. The game had a feel or reality.

The battles could have been a little better in my opinion, but i liked the fact that it wasnt one of these- (Select target) (select spell) (select poison fog). It was fun, but you could have added character animations, like shooting a bow.

But i was more focused on the story. 10/10 on that, all the way.

Can NOT wait for the next chapter. I'm going to look for progress each day =]

"Where is your wife? What happened to the leash?"

"WHO TOLD YOU ABOUT THE LEASH?!"

"Ummm...."

Humor was greattt =)

EDIT: fixed my spelling errors...i was so worked up on the game, my mind was faster than my fingers heh

Mm, I'm flattered then. Still, there's a large variance in the opinion of whether it should exists though. I think I'm going to throw in an option of skipping battles in the future; that'd probably please many.

@Redmoon:
I agree with that battle systems should have a normal melee attack- but in the end I just felt it to be kinda useless, heheh. Besides, both characters suck at meleeing. :p Maybe I'll add something to compensate for it in the future, though! Thanks for the reminder.

Very glad that you like it! :) I did aim to make it in the style of an interactive show, so I'm happy that it felt like it for ya. Point well taken for the battle system, I've been thinking about it much lately.

Oh, speaking of which, there actually will be custom battle sprites and etc. in the next release! Courtesy of lunarea, Quintessence will now have some more frequent use of custom sprite edits and the like. :)

By the way, have you seen the ending music vid? :> It was just made recently, so it wasn't included in the Chap 1-4 package.

I am still in the almost-done stage on the Aeria city tour demo for pre-Chapter 5. But tomorrow I am moving to campus residence, so I probably won't be on for a day or two. After I get settled, I'll finish it. :)

Battle sprites! Look grreaatt!

Can't wait for ch 5, and im on my way to download the ending video, hehe.

By the way, i like how the story makes you go, "OOHHH"

EDIT: OMG.

Tell your composer that he/she has an amazing ability to compose songs. It was amazing. No....Mind blowing. =] (The ending video, that is)
 
Thanks guys. :> Chapter 5 will probably come out either late this month or early next month.

And the ending theme was composed by me, Daxas. :> *snatches credit* The lead composer James is responsible for many of the .OGGs BGMs (the good ones that is, heheh), and I did the main theme/ending theme and their variations, and a few other random BGMs here and there. In the audio folder, the composer for each song is included in the file names.

Oh, and what do ya mean that you only got sound for it, Jakey?
 
Is it a video, or just the ending theme? Haha, cause' I was fiddling around with it and got no picture if it was meant to be a video...the song is really great, no surprise there though.

I just finished playing all 4 chapters and I was really impressed. ( I had already played the 1st chapter when it came out before but that was it) I have been wanting to play the rest for a long time but only recently set the time aside. Vikon was probably my favorite character just because he was so funny to watch and that little movie "spoof" on the ship was hilarious. The music was beautiful and very appropriate. As far as story goes, I think this is my favorite of all. It has some good twists and the character development was fantastic! It was like a really good book or movie as far as that goes. Even though there were a lot of cut scenes, it didn't detract from the game, which is hard to balance, I think, in a game. So kudos to you for that! I usually find myself trying to skip scenes but in your game I was reading every word with anticipation. I loved the humor but it was nice that you didn't go overboard like many do. I actually laughed out loud at Vikon:D I loved all the facesets, (there were so many! ) that really helped a lot conveying emotion. It was easy to see you put a lot of work into this, it definitely shows. ;) I will be watching and waiting for any new chapters eagerly! :D

Thanks, I'm flattered. And wewt, someone who liked the parody! ^_^ I've been owing all the Vikon supporters for not showing him much since he's gone, which will still be the case for the 5th or maybe even 6th chapter... I apologize in advance. ._. But quality over quantity right? I got a few more tricks thought up for him in the upcoming chapters too, despite the small number of appearance. (There's a small comic with his appearance at http://www.quintessence-tbv.com/fanart.html by the way. :>)

And glad that the massive amount of cut scenes didn't bother you. This 'game' is pretty much built on it, heheh.

Glad ya liked the usage of face sets too. I find it strange when people say that facemaker usage < no face at all; the dialogues here is not half as expressive without it, heheh.
