Why do people always either update their huds every frame, or loop to see if HP has changed?

Why not just plonk the update method call inside the change HP method? Simpler and faster.

So apparently the "official" RM2K3 allows less characters for "Show Choice" commands than the "unofficial" RM2K3.

This is going to cause me some headaches...

Why not just plonk the update method call inside the change HP method? Simpler and faster.

Unless you define a new method instead of an accessor for the HP (in the Ruby makers, anyway), there are many different way for the health to be decreased than through the change hp method.
From memory, anyway.

It's also simpler and, provided you return properly, pretty much the same speed as well.
