Why do people always either update their huds every frame, or loop to see if HP has changed?

Why not just plonk the update method call inside the change HP method? Simpler and faster.

There is a lot that can be done with UI caching and only updating invalidated UI regions (it's in my set of current R&D for my next product). FFXIII is probably the worst game I've seen for not caching for UI - menu system has a lower FPS than the over-world.

Although a good system does take up a fair amount of memory, so memory constraints could be a factor.

That sucks, man. My low fiber diet and low water intake have confabulated in me making blood shows whenever I go to the bathroom. It happens every so often, and it is the most uncomfortable thing ever. It's like having your butt covered in sweat, but instead of sweat is blood, and anything as much as a sneeze can make you bleed.

I feel sorry for that woman. I know what it's like to miscarriage...

I'm really sorry. That's very traumatizing. I saw a woman have a miscarriage in the floor's bathroom while I was a student in ObGyn. I also had a patient whom I was following for prenatal care who had a miscarriage and the doctors at the ED treated her very inhumanely. I still remember both experiences, and what I would usually say to comfort women is that it's way more common than people think, but people don't like to talk about. However, if you do, you'll quickly learn that people can be very supportive. The other thing I would tell them is that the body is very good at detecting the babies that won't form well, and most miscarriages occur because the baby had some sort of genetic defect or gross abnormality. But that doesn't mean that you should stop trying, and chances of it happening again are slim.
