The second movies isn't very good imo. It's just one continuous chase scene establishing the characters and motives for the next movie. Davy Jones was Calypso's lover. She made him immortal and charged him with ferrying souls of the dead to the afterlife. He could only come to land once ever 10 years. When he did, she wasn't there to meet him. It broke his heart so he locked it away and corrupted his purpose, becoming Mr. tentacle face.
He told the 9 pirate lords how to bind Calypso, using 9 pieces-of-eight(a type of currency), to human form and she became Tia Dalma.
Whoever stabs Davy's Jones Heart would become immortal and replace the captain of the Flying Dutchman. The East India Trading Company gained possession of Davy's Jones Heart, and with him under their command, they ruled the seas, essentially.
At the time of these movies, all we know about Jack Sparrow is that He got the Pearl from Davy Jones. And Jack's time was up. We also know Jack had something to do with the East India Trading Company, but we were never given the full details.
Jack Sparrow's history is revealed more explored in the following movies. The Black Pearl used to be a merchant ship, The Wicked Wrench and Jack was it's captain working under The East India Trading Company. However, one cargo Jack refused to haul was slaves. Long story short, Jack was ordered to take slaves to the new world but he instead set them free in the Caribbean. That's why everyone loves Jack. The East India Trading company shot down Jack and his ship. As Jack was dying he made a deal with the Davy Jones to serve 100 years on the Flying Dutchman in exchange for an extra 13 years as captain of the fastest ship - Thus raising his ship and renaming it the black pearl.
On Stranger Tides, there's these whole plot with the fountain of youth, black beard, and mermaids. But more notably is Jack's love interest Angelica. At the end of the movie they admit they love each other, but Jack leaves her on an island, a cay, or a "KEY"
It begs the question, did Jack truly love her? In the post credits Angelica finds a voodoo doll of Jack. Symbolically, this means Jack left Angelica a means to control him. A "key" to his heart. So yes, he loved her.
Cancer the crab is a family and love oriented sign. The symbol is 2 circles swirling around each other. Following each other's wake. They are not tied together. They're tide together. Get it? "Strange Tides", an invisible force, "love". Tidal locking, like how the moon always faces the earth as it spins. The moon causes the tide. The moon rules over the sign of cancer, you see, because crabs follow the tide, walking sideways. Like Dancers. chasing and being chased.
Medieval Romances were big on themes of unreciprocated love. Courtly love. Like Lancelot and Guinevere. It's poetry, and I could go on and on explaining metaphors and talk in circles with example after example. But I'll stop there.
