Yeah. So before it was in production I made a shitty bid to make a remake of it myself and Square Enix said Matrix is holding onto the rights and had intention to make it a smart-phone focused project (on the back of FF Dimensions - uses the same engine and even contains left over assets from it).
It definitely did not have the budget of the FFIII/FFIV 3D remakes (along with Dimensions). Personally, I believe the biggest problem was that they used the original sprite artist to redo the characters - they did this for that Japanese Otaku reason of attempting to idolising certain industry pros and letting their name carry marketing weight.
Her original characters were great and at the low-resolution scale of the Super Famicom the detail is aliased down into such few pixels that it works great - but she isn't good at doing RPG Maker scaled sprites, literally suffers from the issues that novice sprite artists have in the RPG Maker community: pillow shading, black outlines, flat angle, totally stiff limbs.
