NRA people would say, "rights don't change just because technology does", which is obviously bullshit.

They'd always come up with a counter argument, both sides would do as long as they believe the other is wrong.

From the POV of a Brit, seems like they defend their right to have guns for the sake of defending their right to have guns, doesn't seem like they understand why they have that right to begin with. The counter point would be "to protect my family and my property".

I can totally understand farmers having guns to kill vermin and threats to their livestock - I completely sympathise with that - and I understand using guns for sport, that's totally fine, but having a gun hanging around your house waiting for someone to pick it up and shoot with it seems silly. You don't know who's going to pick the gun up first.
If you have it locked away, then you can guarantee you're not going to be the first to pick it up if an intruder surprises you.

What America probably needs is tighter gun control introduced over time.

If I remember correctly most shootings happen with hand guns and are usually normal people, not terrorists or cartel. Yes if you want to get a machine gun you can find one on the black market. Nor only that, most people who get ahold of these automatic rifles and go on shooting sprees usually have mental disabilities and get them from someone they know. (Like a family member).

Oh, I wasn't saying that Cartels or Terrorists are the perpetrators of most shootings. I was more pointing to the fact that the smuggling of arms (and drugs and people and really everything else illegal) is a big problem along the southern border of the United States, and federal legislation isn't going to stop criminals from being criminals. Though I will freely admit that it would stop a lot of impulsive shootings, if that's the right term.

man re-writing code sucks balls. all work and minimal reward. i like rewards.

For experimental ideas I seem to have a pattern of write once to see if feasible, write again to finalise design, re-write when selling technology to a client, write final reusable library.

It's like design/experiment -> implement barebones -> implement rich -> implement optimised.

Sounds dumb, and when I first heard about this pattern (it's basically a habit that teams pick up) it sounded really dumb, but there's a crap load of money proving that it works.

You basically make sure your idea can be sold, make a marketable version, sell it to make lots of cash quick, make a version that can be resold and requires minimal support for the medium term (I'm yet to see what the long term looks like).

Writing code that doesn't give instant feedback is always frustrating, though.

Edit: weirdly I say my philosophy is do it right the first time, this never proves true though. I've done some first-time ideas that went to market and whilst they aren't "done right", when I look back it seems that all the right calls were made, just that it wouldn't be the correct way to implement the solution if it were done today.
