Post What's on Your Mind

Guys, I feel physically ill. I'm actually shaking. I am at maximum capacity and there is no one I can talk to
Why? You should probably get some sugar in you and then eat some carbohydrates once you feel less ill.

It's hard to stand when no one in your family will stand with you.
It's hard to stand when you can't understand why you feel so wrecked -
I'm a woman, yes, but white. Mostly straight. I have no reason to be afraid, and yet here I am. Terrified for my friends. Terrified for my safety if I see something happening in the name of Trump. Terrified for my safety as a woman.
And my own family telling me that I'm a little girl, I'm being ridiculous, I'm being a self-entitled millennial looking for a participation trophy.
I don't know what to do. But don't worry - I'm not going anywhere. I've gotta stand for my friends.

Yes. America is walking in the dark, and no one knows what lies ahead...

If this country rips itself apart, make sure you choose the side of good and fairness. Don't let anyone decide for you. Even if it means going against your own family. I'm prepared for that decision. Thankfully my family shares my views on the situation.

I'm a black guy. I'm already dealing with the police problem. If I have to 'deal' something else too, I'll just see it as a target rich environment... *Wink*

I'm a woman too. And bisexual. And disabled. I guess I'm lucky in that the only people who disagree with me are my boyfriend's parents, but fuck them anyway. XD

But what really terrified me was everyone fearing for their safety on Twitter. All these people feeling so helpless and all I could do was read. :(

Hey there. Straight white shitlord male here, so feel free to believe my position in society invalidates everything I say.

Nothing has changed. I don't know what the fuck fantasy world these people live in where they believe sexual offenders come out en masse thanks to a presidential election, but it just isn't happening. The people out there currently grabbing women by the vagina weren't suddenly inspired to do so because Trump won; they've been fucking creeps since long before that. The bigots who act like dickholes under the name of "Trump's America" or whatever the fuck? They were shitheads before. They might be inclined to be more vocal about their bigotry, but it's the same people as before.

A brief news flash: Sexual assault is still illegal. Murder, rape, manslaughter, theft, public intoxication -- whatever the fuck it is that everyone is suddenly concerned about, it's probably still a crime and definitely still frowned upon by an overwhelming percentage of the public. So these stories of blatant harassment by "Trump Supporters" (actually called bigots but calling them as such doesn't fit an agenda) are bullshit. And Twitter and Tumbler and every other liberal hugbox is feeding you this bullshit. The best part is, though, that a lot of these people know it. But it pays to play the victim and motherfucker these groups do it well.

I don't hate the people who are afraid. Far from it -- my ire is reserved for those who would voluntarily spread this nonsense to spread a political opinion. The president-elect asked for the country to come together and work for a better tomorrow. Can we not at least wait and give him a chance before starting the hysterics?

Numbers and data tell an entire different story. White people kinda silent about it.

Rapes are actually up 20% in America.
Go to FBI.gov for statistics.... Numbers don't lie.

The database is so damn big, okay:

https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/20 ... ement/rape

Correction, rape is up 13.4% and raising compared to 2011. Might be 20% from 1990. I heard it somewhere. 90,185 arrests in 2015. That just is how much were reported. 2016 numbers aren't in yet.

Rape is on the rise. The data is there.

They have the percentage of rape by race, age, etc. It's somewhere in the database. Too big to locate it at the minute.

That's a category not the crime. It includes: actual rape, almost rape, assault sexual in nature, statutory rape, and incest.
Data after 2013 uses the revised definition "Bodily Penetration of any Person ", where as the legacy definition was just "carnal knowledge of a female by force"

That's a pretty big difference, I'd be surprised if the numbers weren't higher. It just means the category is bigger and more inclusive now.

Plus they're counting victims not criminals. So even if you look at murder, 1 person could be responsible for a number of those.

Acknowledged. So much data on that site. I'll need a few days to analyze everything on the subject correctly. (As a personal learning experience)

I'm just glad the FBI is open with data like that. I guess 2016 statistics are released in mid 2017.

I kinda want to make a Bill Cosby joke. It looks like these numbers are from when a crime is cleared. After an arrest is made or "by exceptional means", whatever that means.

So I wonder, how much of it is really recent? I mean, there's a statute of limitations. But there's all these Celebrities and Coaches and people in the news recently, and they're just now dealing with it but it happened 10 years ago or more.

There's also the possibility that it could be that more people are reporting it these days than in the past; which also inflates the numbers along with that definition change (which was brought on by campaigning from feminist groups).

There's also lost reports that are dismissed by police and turned into victim blaming, that attitude is being challenged these days so I expect that has a positive effect of reports going through, again increasing the numbers.

But these are speculative factors I'm proposing, it could be completely untrue.

I don't know about rape statistics, and I fully admit that the number of bigots invited to action by Trump's win is small (though their attacks are happening - in the name of Trump - and that alone is scaring people.)

But beside that fact.

Trump, without help from another branch of government, could erase or start to reverse several of Obama’s orders, guidance, and regulations that protect LGBT people at work, at school, in healthcare, and inside their homes. In courtrooms, a Trump Justice Department could reverse the government’s legal positions.
(emphasis mine)

Yeah I know it's BuzzFeed and take it with a grain of salt.

But there's a reason why, just at the tip of the iceberg, members of the LGBTQ community are worried.

Women are worried for our access to healthcare and autonomy over ourselves. Poorer people are worried about their access to healthcare period (though to his credit he went against his own platform and said he'd keep parts of Obamacare intact). Muslims especially and other immigrants are worried for their lives and livelihood - if they aren't forced out by an official decree - they could, and have been, essentially be forced out by their neighbors.

How many of you here know what it's like to be a minority?

I'm white so I've never had to deal with the brunt of it, thank god, but I am 1) a woman, which automatically invalidates my opinions in many many instances (including with my own goddamn father), and 2) I lived in Japan for five years.

Ever tried talking to your neighbors and been ignored?
Ever been asked on a daily basis "so when are you going home?"
Ever had coworkers talk about you less than 3 feet away because they assumed you wouldn't understand?

The stress you feel is real and it builds up. Many people leave, if they can. They can't deal with it. I couldn't deal with it. I don't plan on going back, except for a one week trip...maybe.

I was lucky that the attacks on me were mostly petty and insignificant (though they chipped away slowly). Not like the Korean immigrants, whose children endured extremeists yelling slurs at their school and physically attacking their teachers. Not like the Chinese immigrants who are told they have to work nearly double every day to pay off the cost of their visa, and cannot quit because of it.

And if a dramatically anti-immigrant bigoted figurehead was elected while I was there? You bet your ass I'd be terrified. I was already uncomfortable with a silent one. And remember that Japan never tried to bill itself as "the great mixing pot" where "anyone can become anything."

So no, sorry. We have a right to be terrified for ourselves and our friends.

(I rambled a bit, sorry.

tl;dr: We can be optimistic all we want - those of us who are scared are still scared, and with good reason.)

Also, this happened

On Friday, several black freshman found themselves added to a group text message that included multiple racial slurs, called students "dumb slaves" and included invitations for "daily lynchings."
Just normal bigots? Nothing to do with Trump, of course.

The GroupMe message came from an anonymous account and was labeled "Mudmen." In another group chat, called "Trump is love," one posted a photo of a red hat and the phrase "Grab them by the pussy." Other messages came from a user called "Daddy Trump."
OH WAIT
