"Tamers" was the best iteration of Digimon. It matured with the 01/02 fans. After that, they lost their audience.
Tri goes right back to the original 01/02 audience apparently.

I dunno which series was which, but I stopped watching after the Digimon Emperor became some emo kid. It went downhill when they got rid of Myotismon.

You stopped on episode 1 of series 2.

The first two series were very kid-friendly but with some dark themes (Mimi had a breakdown in the first series and that one time Tai and Matt threw each other off a cliff), the 3rd series took a darker turn and went more mature with freaking Leomon getting killed and all the kids crying and wanting to go home because shit was getting too real for them.

I just watched the 4 episodes of Tri and already it feels even more mature, like it's grown up with the audience it left behind after Tamers.
