Pixel Art WIPs/Small Things Thread

Maybe extend her fingers out and make her thighs longer? When you get around to adding clothes my advice is to not hug the outlines. There's a thing about character design and silhouettes. You look at something as a whole first. And even if gave the character a black fill you could still recognize them individually. With noise's sprites it the hair, but he also gives them different faces and eyebrows that helps too.

You could have the character's hair curve out more over her shoulder.

Well if I end up making all of the graphics for him, they will be, but I think he's given up on it now... according to the where are you on your project (Whatever it's called) thread... o.O
No no no, the menu I was trying to do was pissing me of so I took a break from making the menu.
Games still in progress, although fairly early concept development. Jason was just nice enough to make those for me. :D

I have not sprited in such a LONG time. Am I on the right track with proportions? And no, her hair is not finished. XD

I kind of think it looks boring/plain. I like noise's sprites - they each have such personality! I wonder if I have to make her wider to do so? o.o

:(

I still need assistance. :(

Is this of any help?

What I did
1: Changed your colour palette slightly and added a dark colour to be used as outline. (Dark blue.)
2. Added hair shine to make it pop out. (white.)
3: tweaked the hair and face shadows slightly.
4: made the body 1 pix wider.
5. And a few pix were added to the character's legs.
(hope you don't mind that I coloured the body.)

Hope this was of some help

I'm looking for some feedback on a character sprite template I'm starting. I have down-facing idle frame right now, but will be making 8 directions with 6 frame walking animations.

EDIT: Trying the link again...

When hips tilt one way, the shoulders tilt the opposite to balance things out. It looked like you wanted an Idol position with the weight shifted to one leg. I ended up turning him in space a little.

I also think the character is looking up at the camera instead of straight ahead.

In this case I was specifically going for what they call selective outlining. I've been trying to modify a template with strong outlines for a long time and I found it much more rewarding to not have to deal with that extra pixel everywhere.

I think I like how you moved the head down. Not sure about the pose though. According to what you said, shouldn't the arm be tiled back opposite to the leg that's swept back?

This is what I put together today. The marine metal panels feel pretty muted, which I might try to change tomorrow, but the door/blast door stands out from that, which was sort of my goal, although it's a little flat.

Once I finalize the metal panels, I want to create some variation on them, maybe have vents, loose pieces, or missing pieces with the infrastructure underneath visible.

Awesome Bro

So, I looked at your picture and thought I'd have a bash at doing something like that myself, using standard 32x32 RMXP tile size... not 100% on the colours like, and there's no variation, but yeah:

Think I went a little overkill with dithering too... and the panels are unfinished, but I'm not planning on doing anything with it anyways, so it's not like I'm gonna' make any changes, can't be arsed... just fancied doing something.

Took me about half an hour in total, including making different designs for the door and handle before settling for that.

I don't know if it's what you're going for, but personally with my eyesight I just see a purple square unless I really try. Editing it in a gfx program too see though the structure is very nice. The bricks initially look like floor tiles because vertical bricks are an oddity, so they shift the perspective subconsciously; that's an issue for the brain though not for your tiles. Only other thing I'd suggest is offsetting the floor tiles so that it hides the 32x32 grid. But other than the other than that's, lush.

Thanks for the feedback on that. There's some other stuff I want to try there, but the floor tiles are nowhere near final- it'll be going with something under a different hue/contrast there, and definitely a different design.
