Pixel Art WIPs/Small Things Thread

Jason

Awesome Bro

So I've been spriting a few bits and bobs for Game Maker, just wanted to show you all a little of what I've got so far (This isn't the retro game I was working on by the way, but it is a platformer beat 'em up... when I get it all working)

It's prett basic, just a floor, with a stack of crates

What d'ya think ?

game rips are a good utility for situations

look at, say, breath of fire 4's sprites and see how they do things. they're both cardinal and isometric, so you should be able to see how one relates to the other, how the facial features change with perspective, etc.

jb, that stone floor looks great, man. the crates seem a little yellow for my tastes, but the wooden planks are done well.

My 1st sprite for my yet-to-come game.

i made it in an half an hour or so. Tell me whats wrong.

Well I can see two things wrong;

1 - You've obviously done a copy/paste job of the directions, the shadow is flipped too, which looks really weird considering it's on the left on all other directions, you should fix that.

2 - The flame (I assume it is...), should change, you know like make it flicker, at the moment it just looks like it's a solid object that bobs up and down o.O

Fix them please.

A major edit from a Draglade character. I'm trying to sprite him, wearing fitted cycling shorts but it doesn't reflect it much...

By the way, I'm practicing the Draglade battler style too.

It doesn't look too bad, although there's contrast issues on it, including the shirt, outer leg is missing an outline or something to define it, and I don't get the hair, it's just a patch of lighter colour that covers half of it o.O

I also think the yellows need more contrast, especially on the handle of the sword.

Mind putting that in a spoiler please ?

And actually you're not, since I said you have a contrast issue, while those don't, it's an error on your accord, so either take my advice and fix the sprite which other people will agree my points are all valid and correct, or just leave it as is, and blame it on someone elses sprite style, that has NOTHING to do with shading.

edit from the sprite i did yesterday. shadow is fixed and the flame is now different on each frame. is that what were you saying JBrist or what?

Okay, just tried it, it's definitely an improvement, since it moves now, although I think it bobs up and down a tad too much, and the flames could still do with moving more.

Also, on the left frames the fire hardly moves at all, I think you got lazy and copy/pasted three of the frames, lol, try to make the flames differ on each of the frames.

Okay, so I decided that my GM game would look tons better if I used my alltime favourite style, which is to blow the image up 2x, which everyone will admit is one of the greatest styles ever created, lol...

That's what it looks like bigger, along with the character I've just made, and I'm in the process of making a sprinting animation, as well as some jumping and grabbing (Grabbing onto the edge of boxes and ledges)

... The problem is, it's all 4 frame like in RMXP cause I'm too lazy to attempt to draw middle-frames for in between them, lol... oh well, my game, my style, my laziness !!!

What'cha think now ?

... And yes I'm aware there isn't a background, that's still being made, and he DOES have a buzzcut, lol.

Jason

Awesome Bro

What d'ya mean "I guess", what's your reason for choosing it ?

I need to know which looks best lol, which means I need proper answers
