Pixel Art WIPs/Small Things Thread

Okay, I changed the contrast, and shaded the last half. How does it look now?

EDIT: I also dithered like crazy to give it a scaly look. The cloak is supposed to be made of dragon scales. Does it look right? I also recolored the eyes.

Attempting to use 3-color palette, and struggling to discover contrasting on med-small sprites like these!

NOTES:
Costume 1:
She's trying to cosplay the Xenepic/Secret of the Solstice beginner character, similar to this, sans belt and gloves, and wearing pink-streaked sneakers.

Costume 2:
Pink long-sleeved wool shirt & black cycling shorts with white streaks on sides.

Costume 3:
Dark blue cotton sleeveless shirt over pink short-sleeved shirt & baggy pants (as if she's imitatin' fashion from S4 League MMO-TPS)

im making a few boxes for my tileset but im not sure how to add a metalic shine to it  , but this is what ive got so far:

any comments would be appreciated

@rozzman:

Shading won't look better by adding a checkerboard pattern, pillow shading is a bad habit and your colors look too much alike.

I suggest you add some highlights and get rid of that horrible dither pattern.

Rozzman, those boxes are okay, but the green one doesn't really look like a box. It just looks like the cover, really. You should probably add more detail, like CanadaATW stated. For the blue box, you should try to make it more of an RMXP-ish design. That box just seems to cartoon-y.

yea but the rest of the tileset has the same sort of non-rmxp ish design because really, i am quite new to tilesets, and i explained in the post that the green one isnt finished, and i dont know how to make it look rmxp-ish

A sample character for the Koemushi EVOLVE! template. Apparently, she's gonna appear in one of my games, and hey... I didn't include the leather gloves and boots on the sprite for the character here only liked wearing her cosplay character's shirt, vest and shorts.

NOTE: The character & costume was based on the "Beginner class character" from an MMORPG entitled Xen Online / Xenepic [in Japan] / Secret of the Solstice [in Outspark US]

the spriting on the hair is pretty messy, and your shading uses such dull colours that it's practically invisible. it's good at a first glance, but definitely needs some polish.

@Mawk: How can you tell? And oh, it may have looked messy 'cause I'm trying to *almost perfectly* imitate the character's hair, and I'm a first-timer to sprite such characters with crazy hairstyles like her or even like Alex of RM2K3.

Indeed, the character definitely needs polish. Sometimes it's better to hint at a line then actually draw it, if that makes sense to you at all.
