Master of the Wind

Master of the Wind (Complete!)

Awesome game.
Again, Stoic's backstory is really great. It kept me curious as to what would happen next and it answered a lot of questions I was wondering about.

I also liked Solik's input about what necromancy can do to make life better.

Finally, I'm not one of those who were hyped by Sparrow, but I must say the revealation caught me off guard. I never even considered her.

Anyway, the Krakens seemed rather hard at first, but I've noticed they have a huge weakness.
Namely, Finley's napalm attack. It has something like 60-80 percent chance of inflicting burn on the Krakens. Since they take three actions every turn, they lose 30% of their max HP. Even better, they force the other enemies into taking extra actions making them die quicker as well. Seeing as MotW uses slow phazed battles, those slip damages means a lot.

To be honest, I found the beach dungeon a bit... boring, no offense. I think something that could really add to it would be something like background music other than waves, just something to make it less monotonous.
Good luck with the final arc. :thumb:

What do you mean? That dungeon has its own song. Did it not play at any point during the Shroud jumping parts?

Nice to see Arc V is finally released.
I downloaded it a couple of days ago, and planned on spending today playing through it. However, when I open up the title, it works fine until I select something or move my selection. I get the error 'Unable to find Audio001-System01'. I've pasted in the audio file, and arcs I-IV work perfectly, along with plenty of other XP projects. Could you perhaps help me? :P
In the meantime I will download it again.

Well that's strange cause arc V is standalone so it shouldn't even require RPG Maker to play. It should just work. The error you should have gotten if it wasn't there was Unable to find Audio/SE/001-System01 so maybe you're using a different version of RMXP.

In fact it was what you said. Here it is:

I'm using the official version of RMXP, I would never use PK, let alone ask a question about a problem I'm having with it on a forum on which it is banned.

---
EDIT: I redownloadeded Arc V and toyed around with the settings, clicked run as administrator and now it's working perfectly. :D
Thanks for your time artbane.

I redownloaded Arc V and I am having the same problem. Any other thoughts?

Well, you could always export the audio SE files from RMXP to the Motw Audio/Se Folder.

You do know that the Audio Folder for this Arc is not included in the RMXP compressed file, don't you? You have to compy it from where you extracted it to into the game file.

Thanks for your help, but it was actually something in the settings of my computer- the way I was running rpg maker...
It's weird, it's never happened to me before.

As for Arc V. I've just completed it. It was fantastic, a step away from the usual, but man it was worth it.
The way the whole story comes together, it was really magnificent. Stoic's flashback scenes were great too, I particularly liked the way it progressed. You didn't skip anything, and it proves, as creators, how much effort you put in. You filled in everything from the story you had, and it really seemed like I had just experienced an insight into someone's life. Very well done, probably the best flashbacks, in terms of dialogue at least, I've seen in a game, let alone an rpg maker one.

The battles were great as usual... however it seemed like the ones at the beaches were easier than those in the jungle. Not that I'm complaining. Speaking of the jungle, I did find that part of the arc tiresome. I wandered around forever looking for the entrance to the hut, maybe it could have been made a bit more obvious (who knows, I could have skipped a line in the dialogue). Onto the towns, I felt the transition between the two was a bit sudden, but still not too bad...

The beach dungeon was fun, I enjoyed it but I did feel a bit deprived that there wasn't a few puzzles here or there. Hopefully the final arc will make up for that. Great easter egg by the way 'Artbane RULES', haha. As for the castle, I liked it and I admire how well you tied in a dungeon and a story. None of the two were my favourite dungeons so far, but they still gave the brilliant master of the wind experience.

Onto the graphics and music, the new faces are cute, especially stoic's. I also felt that the animations were great, and as a fellow maker of rmxp games, the teleportation animation was like 'omg how did they do that, that must have taken ages!'. Or maybe it's just be being too lazy and hating animations-- who knows? I love the new theme by James, the instruments together give a good feel in my opinion. Exactly what I would be looking for if I made this game (I wished). Some parts of the arc had silences, which I found quite... well... just not something I like, but due to the size of the file it is certainly forgiveable.

Lastly, the revelation of the Sparrow... unfortunately I spoiled it for myself by clicking that dreaded spoiler button on these forums, but nonetheless I think it helped me to be in even more awe at the actual scene... The timing, everything. As I've said, the way everything fits in and comes back around on itself is brilliant, and the fact that Auburn is that shady character adds onto that. Well thought out, a total surprise, and a masterpiece scene.

Very, very well done. Enjoy a break before the final arc. You deserve it.

Thanks Bradely. I always enjoy a good lengthy critique. Let me respond to some of your observations as well.

I agree that those two dungeons weren't my best. With this arc I wasn't really try to outdo myself as much as try something different. With the next arc you can expect more of the good ol fashioned puzzle goodness featured in the previous arcs.

Sounds like some of the music for the game wasn't working for you. There are barely any segments of the game that feature just silence (except the beginning of the Forgotten Coast). For this arc I tried converting all the mp3's to oggs but as a result seems some of the music is less than reliable on certain computers.

There's no break for the awesome. We already are revamping the earlier arcs and should have the super duper pack ready to go in a month's time. Let me assure everyone that this compilation will be worth checking out.

Well, like I say, it was only a few scenes, and I only noticed it because I accidentally pressed the keyboard short cut for volume :p
I'll definitely be spending a hell of a lot of time with the super duper pack, as Arc V and Arc II are the only two arcs I've actually completed ( : o GASP ), I've always been stuck on the other ones and only gotten about half way, so filling in the gaps will be tremendous (I havn't even seen a few of the dungeons!).

I can't believe this, and you're definitely not the first person I've heard who does it. How are you even able to make sense of the events in Arc V without having seen what happened in III or IV? Blows my mind. Though if those two arcs are still giving you problems, we now have strategy guides for them, which you can find on the first page.

The SuperDuper Pack will have a lot of very cool changes, details to follow.

Edit: Definitely NOT the first person...ugh, I hate typos. Sorry to make it look like you were singled out.

I can't make sense of them, that's why I'm going to completely play through the super pack. That's why my comments on the arc was mostly to do with gameplay and how things were illustrated, rather than the actual plot.
