Master of the Wind

Master of the Wind (Complete!)

DONT YOU DARE SAY THAT!
DONT YOU EVER SAY THAT!

it made me cry again ;_;

the scene seemed to have more impact the second time through. Maybe because the new sprite animations are so badass. I particularly loved the way you used volrath's edits for his speech, I think it brought a lot of life to it.

The two last flashbacks were new to me and I loved them a lot. Very glad I played again. Totally worth spending all morning with the game.

Two typos: "learing" when Volrath is on the hill with Zeno, and then "publc" at some point where Stoic is narrating.  forget where.

Very glad you went ahead with what we talked about with the secret ending. Looking back at all of those scenes with the Sparrow's perspective was cool.

not much else to say because i'm sure you've heard it all

How do I get past that bit in the first dungeon of IV, where you have to put the rock on the switch? I got the rock down, but I don't know what to do now.

Wow! This is the best Arc so far storywise. I can't believe we have to wait probably another year before Arc 6! A lot of the cutscenes were touching, especially Volraths speech, and the ending was just great.
I wasn't expecting Auburn to be Sparrow, I thought it was going to be Rayne. Almost everything in my head led up to it being Rayne, but this had much more of an emotional impact
Great game!

Okay. I'm stuck in the rock jumping area. Which general direction am I supposed to head in, because I keep going in circles.

EDIT: NVM. Figured it out. The ending was great.

I'm stuck.
It's in Vorath's castle. I think I need to fill the area C syncronisation bar, but I can't figure out how. I have talked to everyone in the dining-hall and the kitchen about fifty eleven times. What did I miss?

imo you should make the church a tad more obvious I was stuck looking around the dining hall for like an hour.

There's also the church on the east side of the courtyard.
Thanks.

The backstory provided in this game is awesome. I'll post more opinions once I've finished the game and feel less lazy than usual.

Thanks for the tip. That's been fixed. Also, that reminded me...we got two more strategy guides a little while ago.

Here is Arc III and Arc IV. III was done by Merk and IV was done by Max, both with an assist from ArtBane. They've been added to the front page.

Still nothing for Arcs II or V. Any takers?

Loved it =D
best arc so far story-wise
It was sad not going back to port arianna though =\

definitely worth the wait =]

you've set the bar pretty high for the next one though!

Absolutely filled with spoilers.
I'm going to write a semi-lengthy commentary...Not really a formal review.

I used to chill around the community, pretty unknown member, but I'll be honest, I only come here to see the progress on a couple of games, and MotW is #1. I cannot stress how much I enjoy your game. Flat out, if it were released on the SNES as is, it'd be the best game on the SNES. You guys balance playability, puzzles, fantastic dialog, and an epic plot perfectly. This is a production quality game.

Arc V was no exception. Fantastic Arc with crushing story telling.
Of course you always here positives and I feel like I should throw in my two cents on this Arc. Take em' as you will, just here are things I think you guys could improve.

Timeline:
Look I've been waiting for this Arc since February. No joke. You guys had a very solid 6 month cadence for Arcs being released, and this one took a year. I know you are busy. In fact its amazing you guys even get these things down while other projects die in the water. But at the same time, with the slip in Arc V's schedule, when will Arc VI be released? I think you guys should set a drop dead of August 09. But honestly I expect it to slip to January '10, but I can wait that long if its a huge awesome Arc.
My concern is that I can't go out and tell all my friends on the street to play MotW until its done. And I have at least a dozen friends who'd pick it up if I suggested it. Get it done :) We are all relying on you

Arc 5 itself:
Many items I have issue with.

Stoic cutscenes:
Great, fantastic! I enjoyed them. And at the same time, since its been a year since Arc4... so the new information was having a hard time meshing with the old. The fate of General Mephisto (sorry I'm forgeting his name...) and other details would've been nice. Maybe you could post like, a volume or something that you can open up as an item...not for next arc, but in the final release of all arcs combined. It was just... sometimes we need a refresher or some more details.
Other than that, I cried, I enjoyed myself. I was rather surprised at Zeno's humble upbringing, he wasn't like a legend, he was just there with the legends... the entrance of Enkur was interesting, not needed though. Definitely liked the huge sprite though.

Sparrow Revelation:
I was surprised, to say the least. I thought it'd be Cade's brother or dad or something. But, nope Auburn. Definitely... Touching. I think the best part was the extra scenes at the end. That really drove the acceptance home. But i'll be honest. End of Arc IV had the best ending scene with Ariel. Holy balls that was awesome... Maybe more pazzaz next time ;)

Battles:
Please add more enemies when you re-make it. Just crab things and Squids was... tiresome. And the squids are way too hard for that little experience.

Ariel:
After watching the end of Arc IV, I was excited to see Ariel. Sort of disappointing she didn't appear more.

Loose ends:
Honestly this didn't feel like the second to last Arc. The least you could've done was tie up a few of the loose ends...
Solik
Enkur
Rana
Beardedscholardudewhosenameiforgot (Cole Marin?)
Touten Corps
Hand
Ariel
Auburn (though I'm glad this one reaches into last arc)
etc

I guess I was just hoping someone important would die :)

Overall, fantastic Arc. I just have no idea how you'll wrap everything into a final arc and finish it up before 2010.
And of course, the polishing and bonuses you gotta add to old arcs when you do the final combined ;)

Also sorry for the disjointed summary, I've been writing it for 2-3 minutes at a time since Sunday.

Thanks a lot for that, Ghoul. I always look forward to your feedback, though a longtime fan like yourself really ought to come over to the MotW forums (check me sig). You'd enjoy it, I think.

I think the reason people feel like so much is left unfinished after Arc V is primarily because we made most of it thinking two more arcs were coming. The decision to have Arc VI be the final chapter came when V was about 75-80% complete. So now VI is bascially two arcs combined into one massive finale. It's going to be about 9-10 hours long, if not more, plenty of time for a comprehensive ending.

As far as Ariel, you haven't even begun to see what she's capable of. Only hints of her treacherous evil ways have been seen so far. She wreaks havoc in Arc VI, that I can promise.

Solik, Enkur, Rana: They will not be forgotten, though their major role in the story is basically over.
Marin: The scene is dark, but you can see him with Galdar in the bit where Kovak gets arrested. So he's safely in Harrol at the moment.
Touten Corps: As you know, they've just been enlisted for a new mission. Very first scene in Arc VI will address this.
The Hand: Aside from a few scenes, we gave them a break in Arc V, which was primarily about Stoic's past and the philosophical battle between him and Solik: personal history vs. objective account, etc. Now that Equipment King is on its way down (pending the results of Kovak's trial of course), the only adversaries left are The Hand. A major revelation with Ketsu will happen very early on, and more secrets about what holds that group together and the true nature of their mission will play out over the course of the arc.
Auburn: Plenty more of her, as you might expect.
-And I'm generally opposed to killing characters unless I want that impact. A lot of writers seem to kill characters either for stupid shock value or boredom. I don't like that, I tend to think characters offer much more to the story the more experiences they have and whatnot.

As far as the timeline goes, I would like to have VI finished sometime in '09, but you never know. Arc V was a lot of work, but its long production time was due to many non-game factors. AB and I work full time now, he moved and I'm in the process of moving, and I had a really bad patch in my personal life for a couple months where I did very little on the game.

Before we drive head on into VI, there are a couple of other things we'll be working on. We're basically doing a Super-Duper pack, with Arcs I-V, with many bugs cleaned up, little modifications, and new Port Arianna maps courtesy of Raven.

Glad you enjoyed the arc. A lot went into it, so I'm glad people seem to be getting a lot out of it.

Volrath,

:)
I understand, I knew you guys had reasons for everything. Sorry to hear about life giving you trouble, I'm impressed you could come back to finish your guys work.
And man, that sounds way harder to finish the game while you guys live further apart now. The full time thing I understand too.

The character I thought was going to get killed off was Solik haha... Not a party character, that would be lame (for a not final arc).

Thanks for the preview. :) Sorry if I came off harsh! :)

Good work, I'll be back in a year haha.

Also... I lurk your forums. ;)

Well, we're not all that far apart. Still in the same state. Many sequences in Arc V were still made with two of us at the computer.

Originally, I had planned to have him killed. Enkur's blow was going to reduce him into a pile of bones. However, ArtBane and I had a discussion about it. He liked the character too much to see him go like that, and I realized I wanted his unique perspective to be available when it comes to the big religious questions posed in the final arc, so he's still around.

Hey there.
I've quietly been playing MotW for a while now and am on Arc IV. However, I think I've run into a bit of a problem, and I'm honestly not sure if it's a glitch or if I'm doing something wrong (or if there's something completely obvious that I'm overlooking).

I'm at the bit in the abandoned castle and don't know how to go about doing the first puzzle, because I can't find a way to get to any of the switches; there are no reachable ropes on the left side of the room, and two leading to a dead end on the right.

I checked the guide but it didn't mention any secret switch or so, which led me to believe it may be a glitch. If it isn't and I'm simply blind, a shove in the right direction would be great and I'll happily solve the puzzle misself.  =)

Thanks, and kudos on making a game that can hold my attention for twenty hours. If I didn't care about what happened next in the story, I wouldn't be asking for help.

First off, you know you can switch characters right? You can pull switches that move ropes while the other player is on the rope. If that still doesn't work, than it's a glitch that was discussed in the Motw forums.

This bug seems to be popping up more and more often. I need to squash it with a vengeance. For now if you PM me your save file I'll fix it for you personally.
