Greatest unknown PS2 RPGs?

fyi: disgaea is pretty kick ass so far.  I don't think i'll be going after any sequels anytime soon, though.

also, not so thrilled with Xenosaga.  It feels like a movie in which you control a bad actress as she overacts through miles of dialogue.

Is Eve of Extinction deep or is it just another hack-and-slash?  Looks fairly intriguing (despite the hysterically bad reviews I've been reading)

it's engaging, i'll give you that.  I love the presentation too.  I just think it's a little too "A to B to C" without much emphasis on leveling up/sidequests/etc

and yeah 25 hours?  definitely full of shit.  i think the cutscenes are about that long.

Yeah, there isnt too much to do besides the main story except get pushed along to A-B-C like you said. The story gets really good towards the end but you have to go through alot of stuff. Parts of it are pretty shit, Ill agree but the game itself is great. And its not an LOL 20 HOUR GAME like homeboy said.

Try Xeno 3 as well, but skip the second. Wiki the story if you want, but the game is awful.

If you don't mind Westerns, Wild ARMS 3 was pretty fun...and I don't like westerns. The graphics might seem a bit dated, but hey: this was the first console RPG to use cel-shaded characters. It has a lot of neat little touches, and the gameplay was pretty satisfying, if a bit on the simple side.

Wild Arms 3 is great if you like boring gameplay and a decent, obvious story that doesnt get good until the near end.

Try Wild Arms 1 and 2 before going into 3. 3's not really bad, (actually, its the last good WA) but if you have never played a WA game base your opinion off a better one first.

The best thing about WA3 though was its amazing OST and great graphics as DaithioDell said. If you only like games for that, then by all means give 'er a go.

I'm looking at the first one for PSone, and I'm diggin it so far... it looks pretty old school.  I'm reading that they made a remake for PS2 called "Wild ARMs Alter Code: F".

Is it worth getting the remake for PS2, or did they shit it up like square did with FFVI advance?

Dude, what? FFVI Advance was one of the only really good ports SE did. @_@

And FUCK NO. Alter Code F is terrible. Yeah, it has great graphics and a great OST but alot of things were changed and the battle system resembles WA3.

AAHH you're kidding me right!?  They changed the entire fucking soundtrack up, took out all the classic Woolsey-isms, and renamed all the spells and shit so it can line up with all the other new-school shitty FF games

I had so much respect for you, moogs.  So much respect...

(sigh)

haha

I will agree the soundtrack was too symphony sounding and the MIDI sounds were superior, and the spells stuff was gay too.

But they changed the clarity of the animation and sprites to make it look much better. Also its FFVI, who doesnt want that on a handheld? :D

lol youre the first heh

Also, try Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne, its a really great game. It will come across about $60 used if you find it, though.

Yeah, that's completely true but the game is so old why does it cost as much as a ps3 game?

I think because of its rarity. All of the SMT games usually cost an "ass and an elbow" because so few copies were made. I found one a while back for 64.99 and it was used and had no cover :(

Its like Valkyrie Profile, a new copy of that runs for like $120 I think.

ps that doesnt mean all the SMT games are good, actually the only spin off besides the main series thats any good imo is Persona :D

Supposedly (wiki) they stopped and started production like 3 times, so it was extremely rare.  Now it's not as rare as it was, but it's still in high demand.

I remember when I was a young, ignorant child I first bought FFVI for SNES for $60 used.  Now you'd be lucky to find that shit (and VII for that matter) for under $100 used.

This shit always pisses me off.  They wonder why people use emulators all the time.

Damn. Now I'm gonna have to mug someone. I never beat nocturne :(

Also I didn't really get into the first two Persona games but imo Persona 3 is a really good buy.

Yup Yup, I agree. Imo II was the best one but III is almost just as good. Def. both worth the money.

I still have my original FFIII (VI) game. I lost VII though, but its no biggie since I have raped the game time and time again.

I have 2, but I played 3 before 2 so 2 is really weird to me and I can't really get into it.

Yeah, if you play them backwards its really hard to get into. It gets really good in the middle, though.

Hugbees, did you try Suikoden III yet? Its great.
